hey Ariel - what do you do to the cast alloy bits before welding in terms of prep? - I always find alot of impurities coming out of casts when welding.

We have an acid at work, it's basically mag wheel cleaner (I work for a radiator shop) I sand the runners about 5-10mm down from where i'll be welding and dip the who9le runner into the solution and clean it off.

I have 0 issues welding cast. I only use 5356 for cast welds, 4043 for everything else. My cast to runner welds are 5356.

like alumi-brite?

basically a sulfuric acid solution ?

Yeah, Kind of.. Think of it as an "exfoliator" for aluminum. It heats the metal and pushes all the crap out. We use it every day, worth its weight in gold.

It does dull the finish, though.

We use glass beads at work for sandblasting, Not good for welding aluminum unless you grind the area after sandblasting.

Hey Ariel,

just letting you know that when you did the mount for the throttle cable, you did it at the wrong angle so when the throttle cable is mounted to the TB, its at a weird angle and needs to modded. the cable is rubbing against the throttle body mount and in time will cause it to fail.

not happy about this as i did give you the TB to trial fit before welding and now i have to take the plenum off and pay someone to fix it.

This is all for the weekend's updates....3 on the right are the race version rb30 and 3 on the left are street version rb30. Both will have billet fuel rails and 80mm billet throttle bodies

Final round of the go karting season tomorrow so I have to get the kart ready tonight and up early tomorrow morning. Lucky the track is only 5 minutes away....

I just realised it has been 2 months since I last updated.

Here is something I done this weekend. RB25RV (Race Version) with R33 RB25. I just have to finish off mounting the fuel rail next weekend. Also attached is a pic of another one I done a while ago R32 RB25.

There is plenty more coming over the next couple of months......it's the business I have ever been. The best is a complete custom FE3 (Mazda) 2.0L looking to make 1200hp and aiming for the 6 second region.

Cheers,

Ariel

This morning's update....finished the Race Version RB25.

This afternoon I might start on the RB30 Race Version and the Mazda FE3 tomorrow....that's if this 40+C heat stays away.

Then there is the bellmouths for the next 6 weeks or so......

    • I've looked up the parts number (41011AL501). It's around $700 OEM. Usually our Infiniti G35 here in Canada have interchangeable parts with my Stagea but the parts number are not the same. I have looked around and it seems the JDM 2005 V35 Skyline (which is the same as our G35) has the same caliper but I cannot confirm. And I can't find a repair kit. The inner brake pads drags on the rotor, seems to be rusty piston. Thanks for the info by the way
    • This coupled with 6-9 speed autos with ridiculously short gearing is why these modern shitbox cars always seem so fast off the line. If it wasn't for those things, Raptors would not seem fast. The problem we have is there is a driveability gap between a more gentle take off and a wheelspinning sideways launch. The difference between ankle flex required to achieve one and ankle flex required to achieve the other is about 0.5°.
    • Yeah I think I'm also with the opposite here. It's 'hard to keep up with traffic' because in the real world I'm accelerating with 15% throttle and they are pinning it. It feels like I'm being an overt dickhead at anything above 15% throttle, so the car sounds like I'm being an overt dickhead to keep up with/get ahead of traffic when I'm really just trying to drive with traffic. There would be no issue 'keeping up with traffic' if we used the same level of throttle input/aggression to drive around. People really do just drive around with their foot nearly pinned in econoboxes.
    • To be fair it's the other way around. 300kw is boring in a modern Golf or BMW. They are so competent / well-engineered / devoid of emotion that you have to go stupid fast to feel anything. Whereas the <300kw RB still makes all the right noises and it feels good to drive. Can pull off at the lights with the turbo whooshing and the blow-off pssshing and feel like the coolest kid on the block. Just don't look to the side where you'll see the bored housewifes in their shitbox Yaris/Corolla/Camry that kept up because you didn't go fast at all
    • 300kW is so boring in a Skyline, you'll get spanked by someone's mum's Golf with Alibaba pipes, and an email tune.
