Hey guys, this is my first post so hello. I thought I'd join up on this site and get some good GTR info as well as post up the bits I have here and there. Moving on then. So here's my little paint project. Originally when I took delivery of the car, the front bumper had some slight damage on it. I was just going to repaint it silver, but somewhere along the way, I was asked by a close friend if they could try their hand at it. I knew this only meant things would get out of hand but I said okay. The artwork is by Allison La Valley of Lost Birds Art Studio (Portland, OR, USA) The car is in Misawa, Japan, where so far about 30 hours have gone into this. The plan is to finish the whole car by the end of February, so that will leave me time to build up the engine, etc before racing starts. I know some are going to hate that I allowed this, but remember it's just a car and as a matter of fact, there are 10s of 1,000s more just like it. Updates as they come!

New engine is in. New suspension is in (JIC FLT-TARs), new seats (Sparco R2s), some other top secret Lost Birds stuff too.

Overly dramatic teaser video I was working on.

btw how's driving on the streets with those seats? the head supports looks like theyd limit your peripheral vision quite a bit

It's not that bad, your head isn't buried in there like you think since they are designed specifically with a helmet in mind. but they are illegal here for road use. The cops are too polite to give you a ticket for something like that though, so the world keeps turning. It will not pass inspection, however.

Back from the dead. It's been hellish here after the earthquake and f*kushima. Everything is slowly getting back to normal, although the radioactive cloud over everyone's head is still a concern. The car was stuck in Tokyo for over a month after the disaster here, parked in an open lot that was unguarded and uncovered. The car was packed full with suspension bits, a Nismo twin plate clutch, Sparco seats that were still not installed, etc. When I came back it was covered in yellow goo, but otherwise untouched. I had to drive through f*kushima Prefecture, and the highway runs about 30km away from the nuclear plant. I felt sick the entire time. Pulling into rest stops, the only other travelers were fire fighters and rescue crews, very surreal to be there as it was happening.

Anyway, more parts on order for the November 6th Super Autobacs Time Attack at Nango Raceway in Aomori. New clutch is going in, some new lug nuts to look fly, Takata harnesses, and in a few days, Stoptech 355mm brakes at all four corners are being ordered. Should be fun! Also, I entered into a car show and pulled 1st place out of it, with a $200 prize. The show was more to raise money for relief efforts around here, so I just threw it in the donation tray afterwards. Anyway, enough talking! Back home in the garage!

    • HFM BM57 has a "bad" knee point, IIRC. It's not the same thing as the later R chassis MC.
    • The ATTESSA is functionally identical to R34; there were a bunch of JDM models that continued ATTESSA including Fuga/Q70, Skyline/Q50, Cima etc as an option. All with Auto only and I think mostly for snow regions. AFAIK there were no AWD VR30DDTT sold in Australia - it is on my to do list to check regs for racing a LHD car in Targa/ATR/AASA/CAMS events because if I can get the auto to work it would be interesting to run a 4wd car The Ecuteck TCM tuning is the same model as their ECU tuning, they already have it for R35 and Dose's favourite, BMW. You buy "points" to allow your computer to be tuned, buy either a bluetooth (phone app) or bluetooth+USB+Key (phone and PC) dongle, and pay for a tune that will be locked to your tuner ( ). You can also access the tuning software yourself but 1. it is mega expensive and 2. these computers have a billion parameters that intersect, so how could you ever spend enough time on it to get a decent result.
    • Or, is it a case of what it is like owning an R series Skyline? NFI what the previous owner has done or fiddled with... Ha ha ha After reading through this thread, I went on a bit of a research about the Q50/Q60. Now I'm quite intrigued by them! Is the AWD in them more like a WRX where it's always AWD, or is it more like the ATTESSA in the GTRs? By the sound of this TCU tuning, this sounds like a case of someone has made some real software for it, and you just need the right piece of hardware, and then you license that specific vehicle/TCU. Or is this a case of the software will be really expensive so only a few tuners have it, and you still have to pay a license per vehicle?
    • By popular demand.. it was a coil. Got my hands on 1 new OEM coil, replaced with the one that made the less noise difference when I unplugged it while the car was running and started the car up. No stutter and the engine light was gone. I guess I’ll buy the other 5 they have lol
    • No, code 21 is very straightforward. It can only be the things described in that diagnostic flow. In fact it has no way of knowing that the spark plug resistance is out of spec.
