its absurd how many P platers run turbo cars and just happen to have gotten there licence before the restrictions came in. :P

So i was wondering how hard is it to get caught with a turbo car on your P plates? and what are the fines that come with getting caught driving one? any help is much appreciated

Its pretty easy and hard, as soon as a cop see ya's p plates and driving a turbo vehicle, you'l loose 3 deremit points and a $237 fine.

If you get harsh cops, they wont even let u drive the car home, you would need to call somoeone to come down and pick u up or drive it back for ya.

Well thats what i use to get, but not the points . I got my p's in 2006, but im already of now so no need to worry! but just letting ya know! im from Melb by the way.

I remember reading up on the RTA website somewhere...."LICENCE - PROVISIONAL P1/P2 Driver fail to comply with conditions of licence - Drive prohibited vehicle $405 7 demerit points"

Its abit harsh, but its the rules, 27 days till i can drive my R32 :P

If you drive a factory turbo equipped car or something odvious like a Non turbo Skyline or Suby RX with an aftermarket turbo added on then you are at a very high risk of being caught as they will see "Skyline" they will not see "GTS" hence they will have a look.

If you drive something much more unassuming. I.e maybe an ol mx-5 / lancer / etc etc with aftermarket turbo with factory exterior and subtle exhaust. Then you have a much greater chance of getting away with it. Particularly if it is a low mount with stealth install in mind. (unless your silly enough to have an atmo BOV cuz they'll hear it from a block away and start searching).

Whilst I don't believe P platers should be allowed drive high-powered vehicles. The concept is really quite simple and not hard to follow.

"If you don't give them a reason to pull you over, and then pop the bonnet. Then you will be save

Due to this rule. Even a stock skyline is a risk as it is a valid reason to pull you over as most are modified, hence easy target.

Is it really worth the risk to your licence and wallet???

I don't understand why you'd bother - if you've just got your licence and now have the freedom of driving pretty much when and wherever you like, why would you jeopardise that???

dude your in a skyline do the math.

in saying that, i have NEVER been pulled over for no reason or just because the cop wants to look under my bonnet, i have only been plucked for an rbt thats on the side of the road and they SOMETIMES look under the bonnet, i have been pulled over for being on the phone and they looked under the bonnet (got let off because hot friend in passenger seat got more attention then me and my car once the cop saw her...go figure...but not complaining :) ) umm been pulled over because my rego was out by a day (got let off...again) now hears a funny one, i got pulled over for allegedly speeding but he didn't catch me on radar so he let me off and didn't even pop my bonnet...seriously thats just weird, i was stopped in a no stopping zone (loading area) and a undercover FPV pulls up next to me and does a full check of my car and under bonnet... thats all my encounters with cops and under my bonnets for the past 2 years with the same car both on my red and green p's and im still on my greens untill aug. I'm a bad example and just a lucky bastard, but aslo all the cops in my area know my car, not many R34's with green p plates floating around, i dont do anything stupid hence why i still got my licence (except the instances above of cause :) ) and still got my car. But it only takes once for them to catch you and your out of the game man....

Do it and cop the fine.

Only way you will learn.

lol

Also no p platers should really be driving turbos anymore, i got my p's only a few weeks before the new laws came in back in 2005, i had my reds for the full term meaning i was on red p's right up to the day before they were to expire so i had them for an extra 6 months than what i could have had them for, greens i had for the minimum time i could possibly have them for, long story short is i should have been one of the last Legal p platers that was driving around in a turbo'd skyline.

And in regards to getting pulled over, i had my r33 gtst with the usual bolt onns and i was only pulled over a hand full of times in the skyline while on p's. Not getting pulled over comes down to a couple of things, First is not to drive like a knob in your own area or an area where you visit allot (safer not to drive like a knob at all on the roads), 2nd is there are definate roads and areas where you shouldnt take a skyline if you have something to hide, basically anywhere further west than Aubrun/parra and anywhere south of parramatta road. Mainly at night but i have seen a few defect stations set up on various main roads during the day around fairfield/liverpool areas aswell.

Also brighton/rockdale are big no no's at night, and any main road heading into the city at night on weekends like victoria road, parra road, cantebury road ect....

And i run plenty of defectable things on the car 12 psi, front mount intercooler, unshielded pod filter, straight through exhaust without a cat ect.... no probs 2 and a half years and counting

got called into rbt today cop said

"any skyline or rexie i'm going to bring them in for a look"

i was missing rear seats - told me to i can get red labelled and to get it back in asap

also they were staring at my rear rims stretch tyres and a little poke but didnt do anything

If you are caught, and yes its very easy to get caught, the demerit points scheme is structured for a provisional licenced driver to have their licence suspended for 3 months. That is, for P1 driver a 4 demerit point penalty and $XXX fine, and for P2 drivers a 7 demerit point penalty and $422 fine.

Dont be a douche bag. It well worth the wait.

ive known people who don't care what happens or if they get caught, this people are idiots but thats how they are. If someone wants to drive a turbo on their p's then thats their prob and their prob alone.... let these kids break the laws, if they are adults, thenm they can make their own decision..... and if i'm driving past while your getting your lisence suspended then i'd slow down, roll my window down, and laugh..... then drive away before the cop defects me lol

Buy a turbo car, a trailer and a falcadore and tow it to the track.

ha thats the dream right there, but $$,$$$ :P

i want a Patrol 4.2 TD, a car trailer and a R34 GTR - patrol is my towing car, daily and 4WD/Adventure/ long road trip awesome car :D and the GTR, well duh :P << thats my dream :D

    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
