you should own a regular car before you take on the headaches of a classic.

put it this way, this car's gonna be driven hard once a week. if it breaks it'll go into a workshop while I drive a daily. you, on the other hand don't have that luxury.

i got my parents cars in case something breaks..

anyway, off to sus out my spark plugs and coils again

dude its not hard to suss out what the problem is. Start the car, let it idle. Go to your coilpacks. Unplug the coilpack connector. Change of sound? If not plug back in, and continue through the 6. If there is no change of sound then that coilpack is farked. Replace it, end.

If it doesnt turn out to be the coilpacks, then look towards the injectors. See if any of the plugs has come loose. If it aint the injectors or sparkplugs, it could be the ignition module (the black thing ontop of the cover you remove at back of engine)

the only difference between when you got the car and it running like ass was your brilliant stroke of genius to "reset the ECU". what did you do to reset the ECU?

do NOT do the "tape the coilpacks mod"

i did that, car drove fine for a day or 2 then whenever i put my foot down hard car went nowhere...literally

took out coilpacks and the tape had melted loose and was all over the place

stupidity on my behalf but meh live and learn.

resetting ecu (disconnecting negative terminal for a day) is fine, ive done it heaps of times with no probs.

are you sure you havent unplugged anything and forgotten about it? or any loose clamps etc?

go over your engine bay and check all hoses/plugs etc carefully

just my 1.98cents

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
