Interesting comparison. It appears the -5s may have its measure when you factor in they ramp a tad sooner and with E85 may be able to get the ignition wound in sooner ? Real curious to know if they drive as per the textbooks with the twins offering a little more transient response ...any torque graphs?

lol its not definite yet, but I have the invoice for a 55

58 .64

was going to pay it this week but funding fell short :( will need to wait a few more weeks maybe

I cant find any results with this turbo. It looks about the right size for my YB Cosworth (cruiser/street car) but still thinking an FP71HTA.

Do the internal gate setups work well...all the results i am googling are external setups. The R34 GTT seemed to be external for its 350rwkws so perhaps a 5130 is all i need for a grunty 280-300rwkws...happy to run up to 26psi

Yes it was external 44mm plumbed in.

Will be tuning sr20 with 5558 external this week or next. Just running motor in

thats more or less what I'm chasing but isn't the 5180 an old t3t4 based dinosaur?

yavuz at unigroup seems to have talked me out of the 5558 and back onto a simple 20g. Just as well I ran out of money before I hit the invoice

Really? Why did 5 if his customers just buy 5 precision turbo's but he tell u not too? Weird

I have been building though, Roy. A very basic setup but I wont be affraid to throw 25psi at it if I have to. Forged slugs, stock rods, race bearings, studs, springs, retainers, cams. Most of the work is done just need to get my crank crack tested and the springs put in the head.

It was Mick who did the asking for me on his recent trip there. Mick let him know about the type of setup im building and projected output and drivability, the verdict was that the 5558 isnt going to delivery the type of performance I want. I am envisioning it will be more like a 3076R, which I drove an SR w3076R on the weekend and it sucked HARD.

Ive sent off to see if I can get a PT 5130 for similar money to the 5558........ If I can then I think its a winner. PT market it as a replacement for an actual 3071R, meant to out perform in every way. See what the price is before I get too amped.

Powertune sell the 5130 for something like $1300. Its basically what I think I have decided is the go for my 2L 4cylinder...just need to do some more homework regarding internal vs external wastegate and flange connections and stack it up against the 71HTA with Cossie rear housing

WHOA hang on, Ive just realised something rather important. PT is advertising that item is a 56.5mm turbine.. Now normally they advertise the exducer size but I am thinking this is the turbine inducer. AKA a cropped GT30 turbine ala HKS 2835 spec.

A normal GT30 turbine has an inducer of 60mm and an exducer of 54.98.

However, the HKS spec 2835R has a 56.5mm inducer turbine.. The cropped one.

To back this up the internal gate housing is just a run of the mill GT28 spec thing.

AFAIK that is BAD news for us pissy 2L boys. Thoughts there Roy?

20Gs make power at 19psi...Precision turbos seem to like over 24psi so if you don't have s built engine?!?!

All the ones i have done have made big power on 22psi. Havent needed to go bigger boost as of yet

I am aware of 1 result on an ethanol powered RB25, what arent you telling us Jezzabelle? :P

Pretty sure u know about my GTR's results too :)

Another rb25 i finished made 301kw 16psi with a 5557 last week. On 98. With a microtech thats wandering majorly at high rpm. Stoopid ecu's

i no man, ill work it out one day, got a new exhuast coming and a new intake setup. So ill try that out, and c how it goes. If nothing improves ill just drive it as it is, till Stevo comes up with the goods on the bits and peaces to make her a lil bigger on the bottom end if you no what i mean, than prob throw the -5s in the bin lol

im very interested to c how this turns out but

Lets put it this way; you'll be having a new bottom end quite soon. The engine for testing is waiting on one part before assembly, and that part is being picked up at the end of this week and sent...

Kinoath lol. I wish! Should be an interesting comparo between mine and pauls. Pauls has a mega dollar head and nismo collector, ive gone the budget route with a quick port job at home and the standard collector. Cant wait!

    • Maf is a question mark but TPS  I have set at 0.47, the fact that I’m getting proper voltage range out of it with the key on leads me to believe it’s functioning properly. I’m getting proper voltages on basically everything. I still need to look up voltage ranges for z32 maf and test that
    • Honestly no not at all, but it’s a very basic tune, it’s stock injectors q45 tps and z32 maf. Other than that it’s a completely stock base map. The file is from nistune and from my understanding if it was tune related I would be able to unplug maf and tps and it would still start even if it was a really shitty start. I have tried starting it with coolant temp, maf, and tps unplugged none of those 3 togethor or individually changes anything

    • What does it look like with highway driving? And yes, I had a similar thought as Duncan. It looks quite similar in my Stagea and I have made myself accept it as normal. Might have to look into it some day   Highway gets as low as 10l/100km on my end so I'm not as worried about it being a mechanical issue. More likely just the tune on the haltech.
    • While I was waiting for the new parts to come in for the charge pipe and radiator I decided to do some turbo modification. The drive pressure (exhaust backpressure) was a lot higher that I thought it should be. For 32lbs of boost drive was 55lbs. The turbine housing is a 1.10AR and my turbo builder has suggested to go to a 1.25AR. To test if a larger AR would do anything to reduce drive pressure AND not spend any money I decided to hog out the divider in my current housing. I removed it from the inlet and the whole way through the housing.  After reassembly and testing it doesn't look like this modification did anything for reducing drive pressure or requiring more fuel (making more power). Oh well, it was worth a shot. We'll get some data at the track if it makes it past the 60ft. I also machined a $7 shift knob off Amazon to fit my Stillway shifter since I didn't like the Stillway shift knob. Next on the list was the radiator replacement and fabrication of a new intercooler tube that had no silicon coupler. No pictures of this - I was short on time each night after work to get this done and didn't stop to take pictures.  Next was to get the clutch disks out and replaced. Previously when installing the dogbox I had ordered a set of the same sintered iron disks I had been running because I switched to the 26-spline input shaft. I thought it was odd that they didn't have any markings or brand name on them like all my old disks had but installed them anyway. At the track I could not get the clutch to lock up using my normal strategies. After two track nights I reached out to the clutch manufacturer and ask their thoughts. They said they had to switch the material out because they were having trouble getting the original material and that this new material would not take to being slipped very well.  So out with the first set of 26-spline disks and in with the correct material 26-spline disks. While I had the trans out I added an inspection/service hole. I've wanted one of these for a while. Now I can have a look at things and change the front cover shimming when needed (clutch wear). I hustled and got the clutch change done in a few hours on a Saturday. Hopped in the car and drove home. On the way home I did a 1-3 pull. When shifting from 2nd to 3rd the core plug in the back of the cylinder head popped out and dumped all the coolant. Thankfully I was only 30 seconds from home and coasted it there. Datalog showed nothing unusual and 2.5psi of coolant pressure. That plug has been in there since 1992 but I guess it worked its way out. Pulled the trans AGAIN and replaced the plug, JB welded it in, and made a brace. Also deleted the head drain I had added in during the bearing issue fiasco.  I am currently changing my boost control plumbing to make it cleaner. After that is done I'll make another attempt at getting past the 60.
