evo will never be an option, a rex, well yer mabey.

As for cosmetics it dosent bother me to much, only thing i would do is roll the guards and a new paint job.

Anyone had info on were to look at or purchase GTR running gear.?

probably wouldn't want to spend more then 10- 15k in the end.

alot of the ground work can get done now such as suspension, brake upgrades.

also i assume i would need a change of cluster??

What a crap thread. Seriously.

You've got a gts4, and want to change cars/have something quicker. Ok that's fine. Don't want rwd? Fine.

So the plan is to spend 10-15k on your gts4, changing the running gear and a bit of panel work, which will end up being worth less than a stock gtr and most likely slower than one with 5k spent on it. Wow, smart move.

Just buy a car that's already turbo awd and save yourself the hassles. R33 GTR's are under 20k, so sell the gts4 for 10k then add another 10k, get the gtr, then 5k on it.

This thread has "I want to do it all on a budget" written all over it, starting an engine swap is a mistake as you'll be leaning towards cheap parts which end up being more of a problem.

Not being rude, being realistic instead.

Very well said.

Only two options for you if you are sticking with a turbo skyline, anything else is a dumb idea.

1. Buy a GTST and get over the fact it aint AWD

2. Buy a GTR and get over the fact you want to do this on a budget because it aint going to happen

Well hang on...

His budget is 10-15k! 15k!

Also I dont know about a 33 GTS4 DE being worth 10k.

Even if you got 5k for it, spend 15k and buy a 33 GTR for 20k and youre laughing.

Its a buyers market atm. A nice clean early model 33 GTR with basic mods is easily achievable for 20k.

GTRs are as common as assholes these days

money is a factor of course, thats like anything, but im not on a budget so to speak. 15k is soemthing nice to work towards, this isent exactly happening tomorrow.

And your first option, well id rather not.

I could get 10k for my car atm, well i would hope so anyway as that's the average price for them nowadays.

im yet to see a nice R33 GTR for <$20k,

Bought my current car from a jap import car yard here in sydney, but dont want to go down that road again.

mate honestly, you first asked what your realistic options where and we've told you them.

To get an FI car with 4wd and stay nissan you either buy one of two cars (stag or gtr) or spend your whole budget, plus some to convert your current ride into an inferior imitation.

Now beyond mere monitary considerations, consider time aswell.

All in all you wont realstically get a engine, drive train brakes wheels etc etc done in the budget your considering, and if you were to take it a step further and pump the budget, you just make the case for buying a gtr event stronger.

GTR's out of japan are pretty good right now, 32's are dirt cheap, and 33's are more than reasonable.

If you have the budget to convert, you have more than enough to swap cars.

Out of curiousity, why are you so against buying a RWD car (not just talking about a GTST, but in general). Considering you own the worst power/weight ratio skyline available, it's not like you are having problems with the limitations of putting big power down in a RWD so the AWD advantage isn't something you know and it also can't be because you are used to the benefits that an AWD can bring as the R33 GTS4 isn't anything special in this deperatment either.

So yeah just want to know your reasoning as I'm curious why you are so against a RWD coming from what you own.

power to weight or whatever the AWD still works wonders in a N/A. Corners grip like a bitch and the wet its great.

But talking power wise I would want a AWD over RW for sure. Just my preference.

Have you driven both RW and AWD skylines??

i'd say just get a GTR either a 32 or 33, save your money on stuffing around sourcing parts, haivng the car off the road, plus all the headaches of doing engine changeovers etc.

like others have said the money you'd spend on making your car similar to a GTR or a turbo GTS with AWD, will be more than you would spend on just getting a GTR.

if i were you i would just go for a GTR, you will be very happy with the power you can achieve too, its a higher base to start modifying from.

Yeah i think i might settle for a nice 32.

agree with femno %200

ring up a few BCNR33's for sale at sub 22k and say ive got 20k cash in the bank ready

do you want to sell? cos i want to buy

youll be surprised how easy they will fold

given there are so many for sale, they wont say nah man, 23k or dont bother coming

trust me, they will fold and meet you half way or bend over at take it for 20k

um yeah i have had both awd and rwd and in their own rights both are very fun.

f**k off the gts4 pos and get a gtr 32 that way u can go awd and rwd at the flick of a switch if u want gtr33 imo is a tad ugly but i still hold respect to them. dont waste ur time f**king with ur car it is literally pointless and by the time u are nearly finished u could have bought 2 gtr's

I am currently almost finished installing a stagea s1 engine into my 33 gts4. This is one of the easiest conversions as everything is compatible alternator, starter, aircon etc........ Just pick up a bare engine, get all aftermarket exhausts and turbo and dump it in there. You don't need to change over your gearbox as it is strong enough and you don't need to find a manual stagea as all you need is a spigot bush which is very simple to install. The only major hassle is the front diff. I've decided to keep my gts4 ratio as gears are longer than stageas, if your not using your gts4 for the track I advise you to do this but its up to you.

Rwd is a lot of fun but AWD is my style of drive. You can hammer it around a corner and swing your ass out with more power on the surface than a rwd car allowing you to come out of the corner a lot quicker. Even if you want a bit of rwd fun just drop the front shaft its simple.

If you want a rb26 your better off selling and buying a gtr as parts prices are high.

P.S if you are going to do this bigger fuel pump is needed!

    • Back again. I returned to Japan in Jul/Aug to spend time with the car on my birthday and remind myself what all the sacrifice and compromise is for. It happened to line up with the monthly morning meet in Okutama, which I have been wanting to go to for a long time. It's a unique event at a unique spot with really rare, interesting, and quirky cars. It's where all the oldheads and OGs gather. The nighttime scene at DKF certainly has its place and should be experienced if you're into cars, but there's too much bad attention and negativity around it now. IMO the better time is Sunday morning at DKF or Okutama; it's more chill and relaxed. I'm glad I was finally able to go, but not sure it's worth the drive from all the way from Nagoya immediately the day before, unless I was already staying in Tokyo for the days right before the meet, because you have to wake up quite early to make it in time. Funnily enough though I didn't drive the car all that much this trip because it was just too damn hot. While there were zero issues and running temps were nominal and the A/C was strong, RBs already run crazy hot as it is. Sure, it took it all like a champ but something about driving these cars in the ridiculous heat/humidity bothers me and makes me feel like I'm asking too much of it. I'm just me being weird and treating the car like a living thing with feelings; I'm mechanically sympathetic to a fault. Instead I was mainly driving something else around - a KX4(silver) 2001 X-Trail GT, that I acquired in May. There's a few different flavors to choose from with Xs, but visually it's the Nissan version of the Honda CR-V. Mechanically it's a whole different story as this, being the top-trim GT, has an SR20VET mated to a four-speed auto and full-time AWD! It was a very affordable buy in exceptional condition inside and out, with very low mileage...only 48k kms. Most likely it was owned by an older person who kept it garaged and well-maintained, so I'm really happy with how it all worked out. It literally needs zero attention at the moment, albeit except for some minor visual touch-ups. I wanted something quirky, interesting, and practical and for sure it handily delivers on all three of those aspects. I was immediately able to utilize the cargo and passenger capacity to its full extent. It's a lot of fun to drive and is quite punchy through 1st and 2nd. It's very unassuming -in the twisty bits it's a lot more composed than one would think at a glance- and it'll be even better once I get better tires on it(yes, it's an SUV but still a little boat-y for my liking). So...now I have two golden-era Nissans in silver. One sports car and one that does everything else; the perfect two-car solution I think👍 The rest of the trip...I was able to turn my stressed brain off and enjoy it, although I didn't quite get to do as much as I thought. I did some interesting things, met some interesting people, and happened into some interesting situations however, that's all for another post though only if people really want to know. Project-wise, I went back to Mine's again to discuss more plans and am hoping to wrap that up real soon; keep watching this space if that interests you. Additionally, while working in the tormenting sweatbox that is the warehouse, I was able to organize most of the myriad of parts that my friend is storing for me along with the cars, and the 34 has a nice little spot carved out for it: And since it can get so stupid hot in there, that made it all the more easy -after I was standing there looking at the car and said 'f**k it'- to finally remove all the damn gauges that have mostly been an eyesore all this time. Huzzah. The heat basically makes the adhesive backing on the gauge mounts more pliable to work with, so it was far less stressful getting this done. I didn't fully clean it up or chase the wiring though; that will happen once I have the car in closer possession. Another major reason to remove all that stuff is to give people less reasons to get in my car and steal s**t while it's being exported/imported when/if the time comes, which leads us to my next point... ...and that is even though it's time in Japan is technically almost up since it's a November car and the X would be coming in March, I'm still not entirely sure where my life and career is headed; I don't really know what the future looks like and where I'm going to end up. I feel there's a great deal of uncertainty with me and as a result of that, it feels like I'm at a crossroads moreso now than any point in my life thus far and there are some choices I need to make. Yes, I've had some years to consider things and prepare myself, however too much has happened in that time to maintain confidence and everything feels so up in the air; tenuous one might say. Simply put, there's just too much nonsense going on right now from multiple vectors. Admittedly, I'm struggling to stay in the game and keep my eyes on the prize. So much so in fact, that very recently I came the closest I ever have before to calling it quits outright; selling everything and moving on and not looking back. The astute among you will pick up on key subtext within this paragraph. In the meantime I've still managed to slowly acquire some final bits for the car, but it feels nice knowing there's not much left to get and I'm almost across that finish line; I have almost everything I'll ever want for my interpretation and expression on what it is I think an R34 should be. 'til later.
    • Thanks for that, hadn’t used my brain enough to think about that.
    • Also playing with fire if they start to flow more air down low than what the stock twins can. It's not even up top you need to worry, it can be at 3000rpm and part throttle and it's getting way more flow than it should.
    • Any G40/1000 or G40/1250 results out there?
    • You still want a proper tune on the stock ECU though. Stock tune + stock ECU with GT-SS/-9s is probably playing with fire if you're running more than stock airflow/power.
