nah im alright with cars. i did loose my licence for a month, which had some sort of contribution.

but it was coz I was 19 when I bought the car :) I had a supra before that n it was covered for $1800 so i think its just coz of the turbo and new laws of the P-plate restrictions.

2003 M35 - just car - ~$780 full comp with rating 1 protection. I'm 29, my wife is 26.

I was like wtf? so cheap!

Then I saw Adelaide >_< This is what happens when you live in Sydney. Yes areas do make a massive difference to Premiums. I have 3rd party on my shopping trolley, moved one suburb over (diff postcode) and they wanted to charge me +$100. I had to argue over the phone, that it doesn't make sense as you can drive the car friggin anywhere... Aparently drivers one suburb over are more dangerous

Canceled the policy for a cheaper one 3 days later.

i actually self insure.. i only have 3rd party fire and theft.. just case i lose the whole car or hit a merc..

if you think about it.. if you have a minor to mild smash every 5 years it works out quite well..

$1200 per year with $500 excess..

1200x5 = $6000 + $500 excess..

So if you have 1 prang every 5 years that is less than $6500 you are way ahead.. considering most prangs are generally only $1000-$2000 at most.

and i havent had a bad hit in over a decade.. (knock on wood) would hate to think i had forked out over $10,000 for nothing..

i think i'll have the highest cost.

far out man thats insane.. why such a high cover price?

i could barely get 25k for mine and my rims are worth more than your car - just kidding ;)

mind you my premium is 1127$ for both the stagea m35 and the skyline

$500 excess each - and the stagea is covered for 25k

the r33 skyline is covered for 10k - and thats one premium for both cars.

i was with just car - they wanted too much i shifted to shannons. - just car also gave me an agreed value of 22,800. for all my mods. wasnt enough.

if youve got 2 cars - bundle them its cheaper.. mind you they knew the skyline was off the road and unregistered - and un drivable till registered - that premium will go up another $112 when its back on the road and registered. only because its in bits and unregistered that theyve allowed such a low cover price. - and that its in a locked garage. (with an aftermarket alarm also)

but rating 1 and im nearly 32.

i reckon thats great cover for two turbo cars personally.

$1150 full comprehensive with just car on a higher excess rate. Wife and I are 32 both rating 1, living

in Seaforth Sydney' parked in the driveway. I thought that was fair except the non turbo didn't make much difference.

Yeah I talked to them when I got mine about the turbo/non turbo thing. The answer was pretty much, it don't matter squat. We'll base it off the AR-X which is in the system. Which would seriously suck if you some how had a 2.5 non turbo... (not that its possible here)

ass hole lol..

I dont know they just said we'll cover you up to 30,000 on your own car? might be because my previous two cars were with them..and thats including all my mods too, and as a P-plater at the time. mods+P plates(insurance)=your left testicle.

To be honest i'de rather pay the cheaper amount. and have cover for 25,000. might differ now that im off my P's, although Shannons wont touch me until I'm 25.

talking about this reminds me my rego is almost up. almost one year with my black fridge :D

but to move to shannons its a requirement to keep the car in the garage. It tends to be a race between myself my sister and my dad. for one of the two spots in the garage. so i cant always guarantee who gets it lol

NRMA fully comp with window protection for $20 000 is $1150 for me in my wifes name me on policy.. she's 28 im 26.

whats crazy is her nissan cube 2003 model full comp window protection is $1050 insured for $10 500 its only a 1.4l small car.. they need to revamp the whole system.

Thread dig! (Figure we may as well keep the info together)

Anyone have insurance other than with Shannons, Famous or Just Car? I can't find anyone else.

Shannons won't insure me because it's not garaged, which sucks because they've been great to me and my mates in the past. I'm too young for Famous (27). Soooo reluctant to even bother with Just Car comprehensive...

I am with Justcars, have made claims in the past and fount them ok.

Yeah, have just heard lots of horror stories, and with cars that easily breach ADR's in numerous ways (defectable in SA regardless of engineering) I like the peace of mind.. if I can get it.

Anyone had luck with Ryno insurance keeping the car in the driveway?

But there will be horror stories for any insurance company.

Each to there own though...

    • Shouldn't need a "base map" for anything other than guidance to ignition tuning. You just need the engine capacity right, the injector size right, and something, almost anything, for a VE map. On an NA engine, fuelling is almost completely a function of load signal & rpm. It should run and drive with a completely flat fuel map. It will be too lean under load, but that's easily fixed. We used to tune all ECUs without any base map. There were no such things (until someone had tuned a near stock engine on one, and then they had a "base map".
    • What did you actually buy/how much did it cost? When I got mine in like.. 2017...? 2019? the aim was to run Torque for gauges via ODB2 and things like Track Addict/Laptimers/Dashcam/Reversecam/Spotify etc. Mine never broke, but I wonder if you've got the same needs (it sounds like it). Cause I liked the idea of being able to do anything with it. That said, yours also cost 3x the cost of what I spent so... food for thought.
    • For me there is a massive difference in manufacturer or big brand crippled android (Sony, Kenwood etc) vs the sort of thing I've installed here, which is basically just a tablet in DIN form factor with open Android, and the other model of course is mirroring - Android Auto/Carplay. I hate the locked down manufacturer and AA options where they decide what apps I'm allowed to install, including the Launcher but also importantly things like Ecutek (for this car) or Real Dash (Stagea) are not supported. Plus those crippled versions tend to be slower due to both overheads and lower spec hardware. On the other hand, when this breaks I'll likely be in trouble for support....but how is that different to owning an Infiniti anyway
    • Yeah, Duncan is helping sell me back to Android devices. I've hated the whole Android head units due to their speed issues. Even in my old Hyundai Kona (2022 model), it behind the scenes was Android, and slow and shitty to start up. Once running wasn't bad, but still a good 15 to 30 seconds.
    • My roof rails are off atm on the E39 until the rust is fixed. I did find another little bit of surface rust under the rails when I took them off. As @soviet_merlin said I'd just leave them alone unless you're planning on ensuring they're properly sealed. I was on the fence about leaving them off as the delete is still a thing in BMW E39's but I feel like the car is missing something (er, it is, der) with them off and I'm looking forward to putting them back on.
