if i saw it was a known undercover vehicle, i would probably change lanes (almost always in the far right, so thus change left) and depending on the amount of room slow down. it was really annoying me, i would slow down enough and switch back behind.

if i saw it was just a random car, i'd probably floor it and switch lanes. vast majority of cars and drivers cant keep up and imports don't do shit like that. at least from my experiences.

10 years ago I was booked by some filth that came screaming up behind me as I was overtaking on the highway (I was not speeding at the time).

Out of courtesy I speed up to 110 to overtake quicker and then moved straight over into the slow lane... He pulled in stright behind me and booked me...

Never trusted a cop scince, dont put anything beyond them. I would imagine antics like that discribed are part of there standard pass times.

2 weeks ago i was driving from pt cook to the ring road at about 2am. from the distance i could see this car hiking in my rear vision, thought it was some idiot taking opportunity of the empty roads.. very quickly i realise hes approaching my rear incredibly fast, and im on 100 and in the middle lane. so, i move to the left, him also to my surprise. i know its a ve in my rear vision and think nothing of it, until his headlights were not visible in my rear vision. let off the accelerator and slowed to 90; eventually this numb nuts decides to slipstream past me on the right, and stops in line with the front of my car. noticed it was a wagon, and dismissed the chance it was a police officer (it was v8, i didnt know they had them in the fleet). until after about 500m of driving along side me, he puts the boot into it, and on the rear glass are his "hidden" lights. and off like a flash he went with another 2-3 cars following him.

/shrug sounds like a typical bullies to me

Hmm yeh sounds like bait tactics to me, I've had that once. It was a bike in the wet tailgating me in the back streets, He was sitting about 1m from my rear bumper, I gave a few taps on the brakes and he backed off a little then sure enough came creeping back up. We got to some corners so i sat on 50 which was fine in my car in the wet but the bike had to slow. Then he came roaring back up behind me and pulled me over. Saying u were going a little too fast back there ect ect. I said I wasn't he couldn't prove it, he went with the whole I cbf with paperwork ect ect and rode away.

there is entrapment law in australia.. I dont understand why people believe there isnt..

a simple google search will prove that..

if their was no law on entrapment it could be used in many MANY ways and the law couldnt do ANYTHING about it..

alright man. can you post up a reference? a simple google search should do.

or are you getting confused with provocation laws?

Had the same thing, scream up behind, tailgate, highbeam then piss off way over the speed limit when I slowed down.

I think coming to a rapid stop is justifiable if they highbeam you from behind because driving blind is bad.

oh yeh..

thought about it... then fagged out and pretended i hadn't noticed him :(

and remembered he can defect you, impound you, club you with a baton, pepper spray in teh eyes and so forth?

+1 it does happen more than people think.. i always see this f**king Sportivo white camry on springvale road/westall road. aerials all over it. sometimes the guy is in uniform other times i have seen the same drive out of uniform but he is always revving it at lights and infact another sportivo came up next to it they raced and on came the white camrys lights....

There are entrapment (common) laws in Australia, but the consensus as to what actually amounts to entrapment

and when it is justified is rather ambiguous.

Consider that recent terrorism cases have relied heavily on entrapment, the concept enjoys strong

judicial backing.

I can't see it being justified in the case of traffic infringements but good luck proving that you were

entrapped in the first place haha! Word of police officer vs word of Skyline driving hoon.

Problem is this:

I am a courteous driver, and typically if I see someone who is in a 'hurry' behind me on a freeway, road or anything with two lanes, I generally speed up and move over to the other lane. So I guess I would be pulled over and the cop would ream me a new one.

I personally hate it when someone slows down to say 80 in a 100 zone, so that's probably what you'd want to do if you had someone behind you. You're not technically breaking the law either.

Hopefully you have a passenger, whip out the camera phone and record away! Make sure you get the number plate as well. Because not only will you see the high-beaming and tailgating, you'll hear the revving.

My 2 Cents.

For another poster who said "reference google" here you go:

I had a quick skim, but I couldn't find anything that could be usefully applied. Or a clear definition in terms of traffic law.

Wish i did, but i reckon if they saw me pull out the phone myself they would of probably got me for that too =\

One day when they kill someone doing that, maybe then they will realise how retarded they actually are. Seeing as it was a little wet, i could of panic and swerved. There is some serious issues with our police force.

  • 2 weeks later...

i think it could be quite possible.

A similar thing happend to me a few months back

i had a Cop in a VE wagon of all things (without antennas) follow me on frankston freeway (i was doing a constant 100kms) pull infront of me and slow down to about 80....up to 4 or 5 times after i would change to the opposite lane to him.... till i eventually said screw this guy and booted off only to have him flash his lights at me and pull me over.

ended up he was a plain clothes detective and said he would fine me but never did. lucky!

    • Hi,  Just joined the forum so I could share my "fix" of this problem. Might be of use to someone. Had the same hunting at idle issue on my V36 with VQ35HR engine after swapping the engine because the original one got overheated.  While changing the engine I made the mistake of cleaning the throttle bodies and tried all the tricks i could find to do a throttle relearn with no luck. Gave in and took it to a shop and they couldn't sort it. Then took it to my local Nissan dealership and they couldn't get it to idle properly. They said I'd need to replace the throttle bodies and the ecu probably costing more than the car is worth. So I had the idea of replacing the carbon I cleaned out with a thin layer of super glue and it's back to normal idle now. Bit rough but saved the car from the wreckers 🤣
    • After my last update, I went ahead with cleaning and restoring the entire fuel system. This included removing the tank and cleaning it with the Beyond Balistics solution, power washing it multiple times, drying it thoroughly, rinsing with IPA, drying again with heat gun and compressed air. Also, cleaning out the lines, fuel rail, and replacing the fuel pump with an OEM-style one. During the cleaning process, I replaced several hoses - including the breather hose on the fuel tank, which turned out to be the cause of the earlier fuel leak. This is what the old fuel filter looked like: Fuel tank before cleaning: Dirty Fuel Tank.mp4   Fuel tank after cleaning (some staining remains): Clean Fuel Tank.mp4 Both the OEM 270cc and new DeatschWerks 550cc injectors were cleaned professionally by a shop. Before reassembling everything, I tested the fuel flow by running the pump output into a container at the fuel filter location - flow looked good. I then fitted the new fuel filter and reassembled the rest of the system. Fuel Flow Test.mp4 Test 1 - 550cc injectors Ran the new fuel pump with its supplied diagonal strainer (different from OEM’s flat strainer) and my 550cc injectors using the same resized-injector map I had successfully used before. At first, it idled roughly and stalled when I applied throttle. Checked the spark plugs and found that they were fouled with carbon (likely from the earlier overly rich running when the injectors were clogged). After cleaning the plugs, the car started fine. However, it would only idle for 30–60 seconds before stalling, and while driving it would feel like a “fuel cut” after a few seconds - though it wouldn’t fully stall. Test 2 – Strainer swap Suspecting the diagonal strainer might not be reaching the tank bottom, I swapped it for the original flat strainer and filled the tank with ~45L of fuel. The issue persisted exactly the same. Test 3 – OEM injectors To eliminate tuning variables, I reinstalled the OEM 270cc injectors and reverted to the original map. Cleaned the spark plugs again just in-case. The stalling and “fuel cut” still remained.   At this stage, I suspect an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, caused during the cleaning process. This has led me to look into getting Frenchy’s fuel hanger and replacing the unit entirely. TL;DR: Cleaned and restored the fuel system (tank, lines, rail, pump). Tested 550cc injectors with the same resized-injector map as before, but the car stalls at idle and experiences what feels like “fuel cut” after a few seconds of driving. Swapped back to OEM injectors with original map to rule out tuning, but the issue persists. Now suspecting an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, possibly cause by the cleaning process.
    • For race cars, this is one part where I find having the roll cage bar having gone through a hole in the floor better than the build it up on a ledge inside... The Merc I help on, the main hoop ends are marked on the car, and the jack is marked... Jack goes under a few inches and lifts one whole side of the car up... Removes that fight for long slim jacks for race car duties!   My biggest issue for the daily drivers I work on, is my jacks don't go high enough. The jacks start out on a few blocks, jack it up, then start a second jack under it on more blocks, and then I can get an axle stand under it. My axle stands are presently in use, and are nearly fully extended. The car is sitting with barely more than a cm of clearance to get the wheel off the studs! Sarah's Kluger is the same, as it has an ungodly amount of droop available in the suspension and a distinct lack of good jacking points!
    • Happy? Yep, my to do list is getting shorter and shorter. Either this light approaching is the end of the tunnel, or I'm about to be hit by a train... Ha ha ha   Also, Duncan isn't that far out of town that you need to make a multi day drive out of it. 😛
