:( That's what I heard as well.....

I always used to tie a piece of rope between my tow ball and the trailer hitch, just to make sure that the car was on the "grippy" part of the boat ramp..

Used to see these idiots reversing their entire boot into the water..

if insurance does cover it (will more than likely be outlined in your policy or a quick call to them will confirm) you may be out of luck if your car wasn't 'equipped' to tow the load that you were

and in response to nickcorr's last line, reminds me of this

sorry but i have never see a car go for a swim but i have see someone put there bout on the ramp about ten metres before the water :)

Now that's funny!

How would you not notice the lack of water underneath the hull, as you pushed your boat off the trailer?

Might need to spend some time at the boat ramp...

Just so people know. The car I am selling did not go for a swim. I was just curious as someone suggested it as an easy insurance wright off. They said something about it being automatically written off due to sea water destroying the car and it would cost too much to repair rusted parts every few years. I am contemplating just parting my car as there isn't any interest in it. I just need to get back $15000 so I can clear all of my debts. I know that people will flame me talking about doing an insurance job but im getting desperate. I've been in too much debt for too long.

I would part the car out before considering an insurance job. In fact, I'd set my head alight, before I considered an insurance job.

They look at finance when investigating, not worth the trouble. They're hard enough to deal with already, don't volunteer for a shafting.

Hope you sell quickly.

Cheers, Dale

I would never do an insurance job, that's why im considering parting her. I wouldn't be able to let anything bad happen to her, she is my hippo. I know you would all be pissed off at me by now, I only asked the question from a has it ever happened perspective. Like someone suggested an insurance job and I asked to find out.

when i was working in Pannawonica we had a big flood that locked us in for five days

anyway the cops tryed to get throw a river crossing ad got there 100 series cruiser sweeped way

and the insurance company just cleaned it out and gave it back to them

i work for a company that is the largest remarketer of insurance claim vehicles in australia - i used to work in the salvage department which involves dealing with all the insurance write offs that the insurance comapines pay out on and then onsell.

ever since the GFC hit, denied claims went through the roof, because a lot of people got into financial trouble and did all sorts of weird and wonderful 'jobs' on their cars. as a result, if it is a single car claim (ie, no other car was involved in the accident), the assessors scrutinise the claim to the nth degree.

so trust me, if you think you can get away with it - think twice - they've seen every single thing at least once before, and you will not get away with it, and you WILL get black listed for life. remember, it is the assessor job to find reasons to avoid paying out a full claim, and to undervalue your vehicle.

reminds me of when a mate and i went for a jet ski we only had a single trailer and didnt want to drive 2 cars so we put one in the back of my old sigma wagon!! was the funniest shit ever!! didnt quite back it down that far however!!

in regards to the insurance job yes dont do it.. and even if you were going to dont be silly enough to talk about it!!

I had a small accident a few years back in my girlfriends car was so worried they were going to void it coz we were trying to sell it and it even had the carsales ad on the back window, it was no where near write off damage, but they went the about it another way thinking they would just offer us $5000 less market value i.e cost of repair($12000) and hope we would be happy since we were selling it anyway.

my girlfriend goes off and says no way fix my car.. but paperwork had already been written we had to give them an earful but they finally came up with the extra $5000. so it was a loss to them for having to pay out the $17000.

anyways back on track dont do it my premium already rose from moving house i dont need it going higher from your AQUA-STAG

well my stagea problems just got worse, i cant find brake pad part numbers at my local (bendix specialist) and my spare set of discs are not machinable. anyone know what a brembo upgrade is worth?

lots of money around the $2000 to $3000 mark

your best bet is a R33 gtst upgrade i picked up a set of front callipers of ebay for $270 and all you need to do is tap the bolt hole to 14mm and buy some r33 discs which are bigger and you have a good cheap upgrade

there are topics on this forum about the upgrade :ermm:

    • Nah, they'll do it without a receipt, tell em roughly when it was, that it was cash, youll likely only get store credit, but that gets you some dollars towards the newer better shovel, or other item you need/want later.   Still take it back and have a crack at returning it.
    • Nah. Was just wondering if you were having a small stroke or if there was some slur/gaf/inside joke that I wasn't aware of.
    • That was a fark up, it's Salamanca Place I was thinking of. And now I'm curious as to what potential slur/gaf I have caused with Salamander Road, ha ha!
    • Actually everyone on the roads was really well behaved. The only person that did any minor tailgating was a local hoon in a Turbo Focus. Unfortunately we weren't going the same way so there was no grand initial D touge battle. Lots of people pulled over and let me through. The amount of "Hey man nice car, omg skyline, nice 34 man woo" was suprising. Like really suprising. Like almost annoying. My partner was obviously surprised, she'd never seen anyone in the real world point out the car/like the car/want to chat about the car before, so to have like 3 people per day mention it was notable, I could finally say SEE? SOMEONE THINKS THEY'RE COOL. Everyone was also pretty suprised about the weather. Every day was dry and about ~13-14C. Mount Wellington had a sign that said they close the gates at 9pm and I was heading up there at about ~7:30. It was VERY apparent that conditions were getting significantly worse by the minute on the way up and down. The road on the mountain was terrible though, it's no driving road. I have various suspension related questions now. Luckily it was only about 20 minutes from where we were staying to the top of the mountain as said Google maps. We only had the 2 nights in Hobart. We went to the Farm Gate Market though which was really good - And went down to the Hastings Thermal springs/caves down there during the day. I'd definitely be up for going back again, so luckily there's a few more sights yet to see. Didn't get to do the west coast/queenstown/cradle mountain so this was supposed to be a 'scouting' trip anyway of sorts if I were to one day do/take part in/organize a more car-focused trip. As for the boat, it wasn't bad. Well it was bad, but not in the way you're thinking. We did the night trip which leaves at 6:45 (though you have to be there ~2 hours earlier) and arrives the next morning at about 6am. There is nothing to do on the ship. If you plan accordingly and bring a book/tablet/show to watch/charger you can just chill out, take some Travacalm and just sleep through it. The food there is an extremely basic buffet that costs $32 a plate, or $14 for a $3 pizza. The way back we had a travel kettle and a few different types of cup noodles and made our own tea/coffee in the room. This was a far superior way to do it. At the very least book one of the rooms with beds. I guess as we were in the off season we didn't have room mates. You get an option for rooms with 4 beds (2x bunks) or a room with just the two bottom beds. There's also some option for a deluxe queen bed but it's much pricer. We've been on sleeper trains in Asia before so we figured this is similar (and it was)
