Build Or Buy?

Hey guys, I was after some opinions...

I've had an R33 gtst in the past and now want another fun car.

I'm tossing up between getting another gtst or a GTR.

The other thing is I'm not sure whether to buy a relatively stock gtst or GTR and invest my time and money or buy one that's had it all done for me.

I've never built a car before, if I was going to build something up, I'd have the bulk of the work done by a workshop....

I'm after a car that just has that WOW factor mainly in a straight line. I don't like progressive power as much as I like that kick in the guts from

sudden boost. I've driven a couple of cars that run in the high 10s and i love it! I'm willing to spend up to 30k on a built car or 40k on a build.

My questions are...

1. GTR or gtst and why?

2. If GTR, 33 or 32 and why?

3. Build or buy?

4. What type of engine set up and HP?

I know i have pretty broad questions but if there is anything else to consider please don't hesitate to pull me up on it.

Don't know a heap on the subject, but you need to consider what you want out of the experience.

Do you want that feeling of accomplishment? (although, since you won't be doing a heap of work yourself, it might be less applicable)

We all know that cars are a liability. By building you will get something that is truly yours, build for you. BUT you'll also pay a lot more for it.

Buying something (provided you do your research) will get you a tried and tested performer. With all the building and teething problems taken care of. You might get less respect for buying a fast car rather than building one, but your wallet would be much fuller.

Personally, and this is based purely on personal preference, I'm partial to a quick R32GTR. But given their age, you'll probably be more likely to run into problems.

Well the car would be for the enjoyment of driving it and looking after it and so on.

So there's no real need to build it as a hobby... But I'm not sure if you can trust whether

A car that has been extensively modified by someone else can be trusted to have all the

Right things done to it.

I am also leaning toward the 32 GTR because of the traction, lighter weight and easier to

engineer all the work so I don't get bothered by the cops.

The only problems for me, as you mentioned, is the age. I don't want to be in the garage fixing

It every weekend.

I'm wondering if a gtst would have the grip to be able to enjoy 350kW+ atw.

Which car would handle the power better??

If you had an r32 and r33 Gtr with 350rwkw would you notice

A big difference in straight line performance?

GTR and get one that already has the mods done.

If your not gonna do mods to it yourself (i.e. workshop doing everything) i see no point in not buying one already modded work out a lot cheaper

Buy GTR, Just keep searching until you've found the right one, buy one with sensible mods with quality parts.

buy a built one. I know of a 33GTR that is for sale with a LOT of stuff on it for sub 35k. shoot me a PM and I'll put you in touch with him.

buy a nice built 33gtr and save your self the headaches. that and the fact you can hop in and drive it strait away, rather than have it sit in a work shop draining your bank account for 6 months, til its been built to the spec your after. also im fairly confident that if your willing to spend 40k of a skyline you could either get a f**king shit hot r33 gtr, or look at investing in a r34 gtr

Yep, pre-built whatever the car. If you were doing the mods yourself I'd say do the build yourself...but it's a false sense of accomplishment if you're paying a workshop to do it for you. And not worth paying a workshop to get a more expensive version of what you can buy in a turn key package from the used car market. There are so many modified Skylines going about. Buy someone elses moneypit, that way all you have to do is repair when things go wrong.

But you'll still modify it anyway. You will get bored of something on it.

Thanks for the replies guys. I think I'm going to shop around for one that has been done, but I've noticed that the majority of people I speak to say go the 33, what are the reasons for this? I've heard they have a stronger drivetrain but not sure for what other reasons...

because of your budget. you cant buy a r34 for your budget, and why buy an r32 when you can buy a newer car, ie, the r33

why the difference of a budget wouldnt you rather pay a bit more for one that has everything done, done properly with quality?

id go the 32 gtr for sure. plenty around with heaps of power in ur budget...

but honestly....id buy an r34 gtr save a couple of grand, there r some really nice ones on carsales for 45k, there isnt much done to them but r34 has way more appeal then the other 2....
