Hi Guys,

This will make you rather sad…….. A mate of mine rang me yesterday and asked how can you tell an Australian delivered R32 GTR from an import? I told him that the Aussie cars had a number plate bracket on the front with a Nissan badge as opposed to a Skyline badge, roof aerial, blinkers on the front guards, amber tail-lights, no reverse lights in the rear number plate location etc etc……… He then goes on to tell me that he has just found one, a Red Wine mica (burgundy) abandoned or what appears to be in a rather affluent leafy North Western Sydney Suburb.

He said the car doesn't look as though it's been driven for a while as the discs are rusted and there is an incredible amount of leaves and bark all over the car. In a nutshell he said the car is pretty much a mess. I'm thinking to myself that surely it can't be that bad or it's an import that somebody has given up on.

He gave me the address and I went and had a look at it today…….

Bugger me he was right, it's definitely an Aussie delivered car, I've confirmed the VIN (off the rego label) and it's part of the 100………. Second batch of 50. I won't post info on the car as a matter of courtesy to the owner so please don't ask specifics that may embarrass him/her.

As you can see via the pics below it's worth saving but I can't work out who owns it? I did a bit of a search within the area and nobody knows the owner or anything about the car.

I will warn you, the first few pics don't look too bad but as you get on you will see the severity of the situation.

The cars done 162,000 kms, the interior is ok but the driver's seat bolster is knackered. It was registered on August 2 last year so it has 8 months rego on it, looks completely stock except for the exhaust.

It even has the original AM FM Radio Cassette player. The bumpers are scratched and gauged, the bonnet has 6-8 hail/dent marks, the roof has a horrid burn/dent mark the size of a couple of AA batteries put together. It has spider webs and insects all through it.

Here lies my dilemma? If a young person owned it then normally the first thing they change is the stereo yet it's original. The tyres are of good quality with heaps of tread but are date stamped 2005. This leaves me to think that the car did all its mileage early in its life and has done very little over the last 5 years. If an older person owns it then how can they allow such a rare classic to be neglected to such a degree? It does have a University sticker of the driver's side rear window so maybe that's a clue?

Anyway if anybody knows who owns it and wants to sell it I'd be happy to talk to them…….. It's just dissapointing to see it rot away like this……….

What's it worth?

Bob.

If the owner has arachnaphobia, he/she won't be driving it real soon. lol.

It's worth restoring if the maths work out - panelbeating, engine/services, running gear, upholstery trimming, repaint etc.

It depends on a whole host of things though, having done 160,000km. It won't appreciate as much as low km ADMs.

The roof may have had a branch fall on it - bit weird.

"What's it worth?" you say. An SAUer bought one from UAS Seven Hills in '06 for $28K > now double that with still less than 100K kms

Classic Throttle Shop sold one a few short months ago for $75K with low kms

Once this specimen above is restored & taking into account kms and services, perhaps mid $40Ks

Shame to see it neglected like that ..but it wouldnt take too much to bring it back to great condition.

You dont happen to know any cops or rta workers that could run the cars details to give you a name to find.whistling.gif

That's a big no no now days.... Privacy act strictly prohibits that kind of thing. Every inquiry is documented as to who access the info.

I've tried that before and got a stern "Sorry I can't help you".......

A couple guys from work found an old vn commodore in a carpark, we called the police and got a letter from the owner of the carpark saying it had been there more then 3 months and we were alowd to break into it and take it. Call the police and tell them you believe it's been abandoned.

Shame to see it in that condition but as long as it doesn't have rust in the body it shouldn't be too costly to restore?

Little convex mirror thing stuck to the drivers door mirror says 'mature' owner to me, together with what you said about original stereo Bob

GL with it

    • Bah! I can't see the point in custom number plates at all. I went to the rego office, fished through a box of "premium" plates (the ones that had the "not as tall" option for the front plate) and picked the one that had a 32 in it. That's the limit of the effort and cost I will put into number plates. The only plate that I'd consider paying for would be 2332, but that's not possible here because it already exists from probably 90 years ago, and it would cost a fortune to obtain it, if it were available.
    • After chasing my tail with LS results..... and cheaper than a turbo swap... How confident are you that the dyno is accurate relative to other results? How fast is the car - What MPH does it actually run? Is this similar to what people running this power would expect?
    • Hi mate I am having an identical issue with my 98 R34 GTT. The engie suddenly cuts out under load at about 3-4k, black smoke out exhaust. Almost feels like traction control kicking in. No CEL but still going to check codes later today. Car was sitting in the shed for about 5 months before hand and only idled a few times, took her out with about 1/4 tank, filled up and thats when the issues started happening.  Threw on a spare set of coils/harness and checked plugs which was no help. Recently had fuel pump/filter changed so surely thats not the issue unless condensation in fuel, I just havent had the time to drain it It's running a hi flow turbo, bosch 1000cc injectors, walbro 450L, Z32, Nistune etc... All about 2000km old.
    • I always wonder where the obsession with legal/illegal spacing on number plates in the UK comes from. Because it comes up in comments in every UK-based video I see on youtube. From my point of view all of your plates look a bit odd. Just because there are no markings whatsoever. In Australia we have the state that has to be on it. In Europe you get stamps and state logos. Yours look a bit like a throwaway draft that people then stuck with. And attached with blu tack so that it falls off at the slightest disturbance. Not trying to hate, but it's interesting how things are done in different countries. Do you have to follow a lettering convention when choosing a custom plate?
    • Hybrid sounds like a supercharger... It's half a turbo, with a belt to drive it! Oh wait, they're just called super chargers...
