Hi guys,

Ive just cancelled the road car insurance i have on my 34R as it is now a race only car and never gets driven on the road. I want to insure it for when its in the shed and on the trailer etc however Shannons will only insure up to 60k and want $850 per annum. 60k will hardly cover the car let alone the engine build, brakes, cage and all the other gear.

So my question is are there any other options and who do you suggest?

Thanks in advance

Matt

OAMPS were doing a similar laid up policy to shannons

best to call and find out.

the value - prob the best you;'ll get for insurance cover - but surely its better than having no cover?

its stolen at home...you get 60k minus any exess....

its damaged on the car trailer....you get 60k minus any excess - or if its not your fault

OR have no cover and be out of pocket even more?

even for 60k Id still take it mate

yeah it can seem a little expensive since you are not driving it on the road but they still have a big $60K theft liability there and there is just as big a risk as there always was of someone stealing it from your garage or trailer, or at the track. in my experience shannons have been pretty good with these types of insurance. Multi car discount helps a bit, do you have another car you might want to insure with them? but honestly for $850 a year it's probably worth it. you're now saving $1000 a year in rego and greenslip costs so you're still in front. :)

Thanks for the replies lads.

I have been shopping around and found a mob called Piranah Insurance who can insure for 120k at either $1200 or $2000pa depending on what cover i want. The insurance is through CGU marine.

Otherwise i am waiting to hear back from OAMPS who i found out the missus old man deals with alot through work. He is having a chat to them for me.

So it looks like all should be ok.

I will let you all knowhow i go for reference.

Matt

I tried Virgils, Shannons, Piranah and OAMPS.

OAMS were the cheapest, however I wasn't insuring for $60K+

I was after cover for my track S13 of $20k and was quoted $400 p.a.

Not bad. $60K cover at $800 sounds like a good deal then.

my race car has limited klm regular insurance rather than race car insurance. very cheap compared to comprehensive

of course since it is shannons/suncorp, god help me if i ever have to claim

Dunc. I claimed through Shannons a month or so ago for the wifeys daily. Including a weekend I think it was 5 or 6 days from accident to cheque in the hand.

    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
    • Any going to watch World Time Attack at SMSP this year?
    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
