CAMS have finally have a revision of the ancient Shedule J section of the manual.

There is some changes in some areas that I know effect a few people on here.

Ryan (BOZZN) Neil and Pete (FATZ) really need to organise their pre log book inspections and register their cages as they will be needing modifications come sept this year to comply. There is also an R35 in the R35 section which I noticed today that wont pass without extra gussets being fitted to the roof members (due to the rear diagonals coming from the center of the hoop not the outter ends)

I know of alot of cars being built around the place which wont be finished by the end of this year and have got cages either half done or fully done that wont comply. Those guys should really be making sure the places doing your cages understand the new Shedule J and make changes to make sure you will get registration.

The fundamentals are the same, the material specs are the same, a few of the bar members allowable positions and intersection points have been changed (prodominantly windscreen/door jam support bars) Also intrusion bars are having a strong recommendation put on them to be a two bar U design with opposing gussets instead of the 3 bar cut type. compolsary X supports in the roof for two person events (such as rally etc) Also compulsary X diagonals in the hoop or rear legs instead of the old single diagonal required rule.

The shedule is more based around the FIA regulations now which have also recently changed.

Just a heads up really for anyone looking to get a cage done, make sure that the manufacturer is aware of the new regulations.

Current log books are fine, however im told there is changes to minimum requirements for saftey cages depending on the nature of the event, some of which will be enforced log booked before or after. ( not sure how they intend on doing this but oh well)

For example racing of various levels will require various types of intrusion bar. They have categorised different levels of racing and made a set of minimum rules for each level so to speak. Club racing will get away with single intrusion but any state or national meeting a X intrusion will be required etc.

Any two person event (targa or rally etc) will require a full roof X (same as the old FIA regs)

There is heap or categories and crap but I havent had time to go right through it yet.

I think there is a few technical buletins floating around on the CAMS website refering to the new regs but

I do have the 2012 PDF but I dont know how to post it. Tell me how and ill put it up, I have it as an email....

Ryan your car might fit into 2F production sports. If its not on the list already (R33 GTst) then you could check the dimensions CAMS specify in the 2A regulations and apply to have the R33 added to the list pending production numbers etc. I didnt check to see if it is on the list already.

Alternatively you are going to have to do it as a sports sedan.

Also remember the car needs to be completed before you organise a log book inspection. All regulations for the category you are applying for need to be meet. Emergency shut offs, extinguishers, window nets, blah blah.

You cant just get someone out to look at the car and say yep it has a rollcage its log booked.

You'd probably know already but at the bottom of this page there is a list of pre log book scruiteners. Best thing to do is contact one close to you and see what they have to say about the car and what they'd like to see done to it.

The online manual has both the old and new regs under general requirements.

My suggestion before firing up the glue gun, if you're long in the torso and anywhere near the roof, check, check and recheck helmet clearance with the FIA/sfi foam installed, which is not far off requirement either.

Glad we have some time to sort the car out. I'm thinking I'll put the car back together basically standard,,,log book it as a sports sedan and then convert to Targa spec.

Everybody this cage change is very important,,,after the end of Sept if you don't have a log book,,,lifes going to be a real expensive bitch.

Ben I'm not totally sure but you need to find out before the dead line.

I think I'll sticky this thread as I know some of you are AASA log booked and may well need to look at getting this sorted.

You can registeer a cage with CAMS without completing a log book application yes.

But it's only a form that gets filled out to have the cage acknowledged as being in accordance to shedule J.

It means nothing if latter on you want to log book the car for a specific category.

Tomorrow when I get the time I'll cut and past the major changes in the regs that I can see effecting people with "old" cages.

One big one that's worth mentioning in laymans terms

If the distance from the front legs base to the top bend in the front leg at roof height is greater than 200mm in a side on projection ( pretty much every tin top and skyline etc) it will require a drop bar which meets no more than 100mm from the front leg/windscreen lateral bar and travels to within 100mm of the front legs lower base. Can be bent in a front on projection but must be straight from the side.

Ryan, Noddy in queensland has his 33 gtst log booked as 2F production sports. I am not sure if the local club ever put it on the CAMS list but they should have. I think it is a good option for 33 gtst.

The other option would be 3J (IPRA). Apart from the restrictor your car would be OK wouldn't it? I am pretty sure IPRA will drop their restrictor rule sooner or later.

you can get the cage cams certified without a logbook can't you?

Not really. Cage certification is just the cage builder confirming it meets requirements on the CAMS paperwork. It is a pre-requisite to getting a log book but meaningless on it's own.

Cage certification will be very important for all the rally cars converting from AASA...

I just read the class 2 reqs again and wil need to have a chat with whoever is going to sign this off and see if I will fit in anywhere maybe 2B? Will keep reading. I just don't know about the different bumper and inlet manifold?

The person who inspects the car probably won't be that helpful. They don't get paid by CAMS to help you, I've found alot of scriuteners to be painfully difficult to deal with at times particularly if your unsure or after information, they just expect you to know everything.

There are exceptions, mike Hanley is great to deal with, best thing he lives in my street and is easy to work around. Duncan knows mike all to well ;)

I don't think he is doing ore inspections now though.

Like Duncan and I mentioned 2F is the category for your car. Unless you go ipra ( pretty sure you can unless you have fitted a floor mount pedal box now?) If there is 2B cars getting around then the skyline can be a category 2 vehicle.

It's a bit off topic....but SAU:NSW are chasing up approval for 2wd skylines to run in 2B/2F: http://www.camsmanual.com.au/pdf/02_race/c.%202nd%20Category/RA18_Group_2B-2F_EligibleVehicles_Q211.pdf . They are definately not approved yet.

CAMS pointed out they are some of the only import models approved for 3J (IPRA), but I beleive those regs are anti-turbo enough that very few people would consider the class until it removes the restrictor requirement

    • So.... the K&N air box thingo was too big, ended up gifting it to a mate, well, by gifting it he actually supplied food and beer at the pub,  which was nice, as it will not sit on a shelf in the garage for the next 10 years I did trim up some of the existing stuff to neaten it all up and gave it some wrinkle paint, unfortunately it currently has a used and abused mish mash of different types of hose clamps, 4 big fat T bolt type (shit), and a few normal clamps of vairing sizes and brands, but..... only until the 6 constant tension black worm clamps that I ordered from EFI solutions turn up next week Currently the current hose clamps are triggering me hard, LOL Is this the final version, probably not, I really want just 2 silicone pieces, a straight bit of silicone from the filter to the MAF is easy and will happen as soon as I head into Just Jap tomorrow, the problematic part is a 30° silicone bend from the MAF to the TB that I can connect the engine breather from the head, I found that there are bulk head fittings for boat bilge pumps that should work, but until I can get a 30° silicone bend the alloy pipe, and the 11ty thousand hose clamps, are there for the foreseeable future 4 hose clamps are golden, 6 are grudgingly acceptable, the 8 currently holding it all together is just taking the piss    I've also ordered 60 more retaining wall blocks for the front yard, I mis-gonculated the height that was required to get above the base of the Photinia's (red robin's) that are the hedge behind the front fence, currently it is 2 blocks high, and about 1/2 a block short, so going 3 blocks high will be above the base of the red robin's, and allow some room for mulch
    • It is the stock air box with the panel filter. Everything else is stock except the exhaust at this point, as I also went back to the cleaned 270cc injectors. I will check the RPM when the IACV is unplugged and report back.
    • As MBS suggested if this is happening when the engine is cold you're going to want to remove the intake air regulator and verify resistance + that the shutter is physically opening and closing. At -20C should be fully open, 20C half open, over 60C fully closed. At 20C should be 70-80 ohms. For AAC valve testing using a Consult cable see if you can raise and lower the idle by commanding more or less AAC duty cycle. Hopefully it's pretty linear as well, shouldn't be like 30% AAC valve is barely idling and 40% is 1500 rpm.

    • Not sure yet.  Was considering speedtek because it was rated to 800hp, but when I did some research about him I don't think I will go for that🤣 So maybe giken gear set, but I'm afraid it won't be strong enough🙄
