I suppose you want to use it on an Astron 2... By the looks of that turbo, its rooted, so it will make about the same power any other good turbo will make on an astron 2.... None.

Does this forum now have a reputation that you can post photos of a turbo and be told what it is and how good it will be?

I can tell you how good a turbo Astron 2 will be, but that turbo is toast.

how can you tell its f**ked? doesnt look oily

from the look of it its a "o" trim rear and some small 50 ish front. would be laggy and make not much power.. what truck was it off?

ive a old tv81 of a detroit 6v71t two stroke. bigggggg turbine 1.2 open a/r 65mm front 0.83 a/r (gt35 next to it)

Lets face it this is a turbo site, and as so some one at some stage has tried most combinations, there are also a lot of ppl on here whose job it is to be turbo guru's, there are also some who are just hardcore turbo fans and have seen a lot and researched many others, theres a good chance that some one would have an idea of what it is and once you know what it is then you can get an idea of what it will take to boost it.

Have a close look, the compressor is covered in corrosion. Its probably also seized due to the same effect.

Allu corro = metalic dust all inside the comp housing. NICE.

Thanks for the positive replies T04GTR and WOrp3D, from what i can work out its some form of to4e, it came from a cummins from memory. The front housing is very similar to the .7 comp cover that has come on the gt30/35 range.

This is probably what it was based off. Id say it will have a comp wheel thats too small if anything. Thanks guys.

Now to you other clowns bagging the turbo or me, wake up to yourself..

*I can tell more about the condithion of the turbo while its in my hands than you can from a low res photo. I know who removed the turbo personally and the reason it was removed.

* a 2.6 astron revs to around 5000 rpm, the turbo wont be oversped.

*im 30 yrs old and have been playing around with turbocharged cars since a lot of you guys were still on the tit! Hey you probably still are.....

* 12 years ago i helped a mate take a turbo off an old bus, fit it on an xf falcon and make 560 hp at the wheels whic was a huge amount of power back then. Some of you need to realise if it wasnt people with limited resources

experimenting and using a bit of initiative such as the above example technology wouldnt progress an we would all be driving around in pushrod powered falcadores.

*Has anyone here ever had any experienc with an old turbocharged 2.6 sigma or such? I think some of the knockers would be surprised with what they are capable of with the limited tech. available.

Lastly with such a high number of member im certain there are a lot of people out there with many more years and much more experience who may be able to tell me more about the above mentioned turbocharger than some of the braindead

responses that have appeared.

Thanks again guys with commonsense and thanks in advance for any more help i may attain.

the problem here is, you have a turbo for a specific use on a specific engine

then you plan to strap it onto something else which it wasnt designed for

if the turbo was useful and had value you would be able to search on it

ie if it had HKS plastered all over and a specific model you could see how much its worth

but as its generic diesel based turbocharger it's basically useless and holds no real value

you can turbocharge whatever you like with whatever experience you like

at the end of the day its a likely to give a crap results vs a well sized turbocharger to suit the engine capacity

shop with the engine size in mind, not the turbocharger size first and then "hope it works ok"

without specific part numbers and ID tags no one will know what it is, and most wont care unfortunately

as i said, if it was a useful turbocharger it would be worth $$$$ and not "just laying around"

we see this all too often

generic t04 dinosuar spec

someone "gets it for cheap"

and it's ass

560hp doesnt sound like ass to me Paul. Maybe it will only make power from 4000rpm to 5500rpm but if you were going to drag race with a high stall or something it could be all you need.

I remmebr a bombed out old celica with some dodge setup like this that ran 10s on some big old slicks. thing is it will move large volumes of air when the foot is flat to the floor and that might be all that matters to this bloke.

I also get a bit annoyed with the small mindness in this forum sometimes, there is a million other ways to build a car and as good as a well built and planned skyline can be it is expensive. Strappin a big ass truck turbo on an old bomb can get you a really fun car for little outlay. Not only that but building it will teach you far more valuable skills than buying parts from a catalogue and strapping to a car that already performs anyway..

from memory this thing had a huge turbo of a caterpillar or something and it sure looks like a lot of fun to me..

More power to ya Griffin

Why not start the thread with turbo has come off (insert) name, make and year model of truck.

Why are you asking whether it will be a good thing? Good for what specifically?

How much horsepower are you after? How low down are you expecting it to make any power?

Ask a fairly vague question on a Nissan site regarding a Mitsu/unkown diesel truck turbo = get a lukewarm response.

yeah dont get wrong

good ideas and trying stuff is great and fun

but you need to be serious

and if you end up with a 500hp car from this mashed combination

imagine what it would make with a proper sized turbocharger

and the response difference???

oh, just for all you guys out there that think it will overspeed, on most diesels there is no wastegate. so the tubine and comp wheels are sized to let it spin to its max to produce a given boost pressure. rather than letting a wastegate regulate it..

    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
