Im keeping my 94" GTR32 for life! It will be my hobby to experiment. Not worth selling... slowy slowy it will fully customised to my perfection interior exterior and engine. One day i might buy the r35 but till then my gtr 32 is my baby. I just cant get enough of the feel of it. maybe in 20 years when i open he garage and its in 100% condition body will still be 97% Original but the interior will be highly futurised. It might open some eyes when i drive it out on sunday cruises lol. It is not my daily driver and will never be.

import one of those awd v37 skylines with the dsg box as a track car. strip parts and retro fit

Whats a dsg box? You recon the dsg box wouldnt be hard to put on the GTR? And why couldnt u get a similar style dsg box on its own?

You'd be hard pressed to pass on a hewland transaxle but get 25k together before even enquiring. Then another 10k to install it into a GTR and get the suspension right.

Seqential 6 speed, transaxle layout.

When you find the rest of the specs that they didn't tell you about in the video, post up, cause there is more too that car than you'll realise. Things like carbon prop shaft come to mind for one thing. Also diff ratios IIRC were altered as well

Considering nothing really happens until after 4500rpm, that is not responsive.

Also doesn't show you how much delay there is inbetween gears (like pedal/foot shots). He could have his for flat to the floor for 1 sec before anything happens and you'd never know it.

Carry on.

So stay above 4500rpm which he manages to do pretty easy :whistling:

I believe R31nismoid is referring to response on the street, whereas on the track, any turbo/stroker is ok as you are staying above 4k rpm all the time

The mine's 34 is not as simple as it looks, it could be running 100 octane fuel for all you know and the engine may need rebuilding after each race?, things that you dont see in the video

Just wait for Ikeya to release their paddle shifter :)

-5 arent that laggy. I feel its easily driveable and i have close to 500hp yeh i know 650hp are probably close to those turbos limits. So what can you do to put a manualised auto? has anyone ever done it? and what makes a hollinger quick shift? My future plan is to convert it to a RB30DETT with the -5's i heard tha its a very nice mix. Another question now im getting off the topic sorry lol But once you convert it to a rb30dett can you bore it out to 31 or 32 getting closer to the 3.8lt r35 :) Plus its much lighter so that should make up for the extra few hundred cc's

I don't know where your info comes from but what makes you think an RB engine is lighter than a VR38? that's completely wrong.

also there are bigger differences than just capacity. one is a I6 one is V6 for starters which really alters the engines characteristics. the Vr38 also has VVT which helps too.

the ONLY viable option for you is hollinger. its $20K which is cheap for the advantages it will give you. with the strain gauge in the gearknob and flat shift (ign cut) mapping in your ECU you can do clutchless full throttle shifts. still not as fast as a DSG (like the R35) which it has the next gear pre-selected and is just opening one clutch and closing the other.

so forget all the crazy ideas and just buy the hollinger. it fits easily and will transform the car. you will have change from $30K even buying the box/clutch/tailshaft and installation.

There are alot of could of which could be said but they said the engine is not bored and its a mines stage 2 engine. I don't think mines have released a stroker kit(don't count me on this, but I heard of any...). They are also using HKS2530 twin turbos which are super responsive on that car. Just the way they spoke of it, and the subtitles, and what it was built for will lead you to believe that it is a super responsive R34GTR. The way it goes from 4krpm to 8krpm in less than a second.. thats response to me.

Sure there could be more shit under there we can't see but the generals are outlined. The 26 coupled with those turbos alone will be a fairly responsive setup. It is a 600hp car. I wouldn't imagine its a non responsive car lol. And you can tell when they touch the throttle, Ive driven the R32 VW golf with DSG gearbox and when you plant your foot there is like a second of nothing while the car gets it self into gear. In a manual, pretty much as soon as you let go of the clutch and back on the petrol the revs will climb almost immediately. Ive got a hypergear turbo and there is nearly no delay at all at 3500+rpm and the foot planted from a down shift.

The way it goes from 4krpm to 8krpm in less than a second.. thats response to me.

If you swapped R34 diff gearing to GTS4/GTR gearing, you'd get the same result... Given thats what Mines had done. You are talking 3.4 --> 4.1-4.3 diff gearing. Thats such a massive change it's not funny.

Also combined with super light flywheel, carbon prop shafts and some wheel spin, course it'll spin up fast.

If you put the normal diff gears back in... it'd be no more spectacular than any other R34 GTR build of that power level.

You've never had a GTR with 600-700hp worth of turbo on it, I can tell you now there is noticeable delay between full open throttle and coming onto boost when you plant the foot.

Either way the Hollinger really is the only viable option.

Wait where did i say that the RB is lighter then VR i didnt say that

PS

Not sure if im right or wrong but i perosnally beleive that the RB26DETT has more hidden power then the VR the VR has basically been modded more then the RB from the production line. AAnd yes dont get me wrong the VR has ALOT of potential aswell. but because of the law changes i think the VR came out basically almost with stage 2 mods from the factory line. The Z-tune is how the rb26 should of rolled out of the production line in the fisrt place.0-100 in 3.5secs and ive read articalls that it does the quarter in the 10sec mark.. And that is a healthy tune and can be driven as a daily

Word on the street: spool will sell a fully prepared 3.4L bottom end for 9k.

And you base this on entirely nothing.

Prepare to get slammed.

You are very wrong.

1. The Z-tune is not a 2.6ltr

2. The VR has to deal with emission laws that are what, 10 years newer/stricter in every single way.

3. RB26 is a motor essentially from 1987/88

4. The R35 is higher production, factory, with a warranty etc. Z-Tune was basically just a once-off special model not to be made in high production therefore giving to some lenience in many cases.

Who cars about 0-100 and a 10 sec 1/4 mile. The R35 isn't just a straight line car. It is an overall package which i said in the 3rd reply.

If a VR came with "stage 2" mods (whatever that means), when why with nothing more than a tune/boost are people making an extra 40awke more? It's because of emission & longevity rules. Same as a RB26 you get similar gains with tune/boost.

I forgot to mention the 2.8L stroker. That also should of been standard and not the 2.6.

And the Idea of the Rb26 was probably was being worked in 87-88 but was refined and produced to GTR spec in 89.. What i mean by stage 2 is yes the ecu was tuned more then the average tune. Yes the Rb26 can be tuned slightly and make more gains and it could also be tuned again to make more gains. Dont know what the limit is before you need extra parts. What im saying is the VR was probably tuned more then the Rb26 straight off the line. who knows. And yes it can be further tuned to make more gains aswell. Anyways Who knows what they did in the factory and what tune they did and comparing the ratio to the Rb26 what was tuned more i dont know. Im just guessing because the laws were different before.

Why is it that the 180km cluster was inplemented into the Older GTR cars and not the newer ones? Did the law of speed change over the eyars which allowed them go harder with the factory tune?

I meant the Car is much lighter not the engine.

Spool does it for 9k, I wonder how those strokers will go with the -5 and how responsive they will be. And the petrol usage difference..

Have you got a website i can check this out? Is it advertised?

    • Hey Dave, welcome aboard! Good to see another soon-to-be Stagea owner here. The wagons are awesome — plenty of space, still got that Skyline DNA, and loads of potential if you’re into mods. Definitely post up pics when you get it, everyone here loves seeing new builds. What model/year are you looking at?
    • See if you can thermal epoxy a heatsink or two onto it?
    • The other problem was one of those "oh shit we are going to die moments". Basically the high spec Q50s have a full electric steering rack, and the povo ones had a regular hydraulic rack with an electric pump.  So couple of laps into session 5 as I came into turn 2 (big run off now, happily), the dash turned into a christmas tree and the steering became super heavy and I went well off. I assumed it was a tyre failure so limped to the pits, but everything was OK. But....the master warning light was still on so I checked the DTCs and saw – C13E6 “Heat Protection”. Yes, that bloody steering rack computer sitting where the oil cooler should be has its own sensors and error logic, and decided I was using the steering wheel too much. I really appreciated the helpful information in the manual (my bold) POSSIBLE CAUSE • Continuing the overloading steering (Sports driving in the circuit etc,) “DATA MONITOR” >> “C/M TEMPERATURE”. The rise of steering force motor internal temperature caused the protection function to operate. This is not a system malfunction. INSPECTION END So, basically the electric motor in the steering rack got to 150c, and it decided to shut down without warning for my safety. Didn't feel safe. Short term I'll see if I can duct some air to that motor (the engine bay is sealed pretty tight). Long term, depending on how often this happens, I'll look into swapping the povo spec electric/hydraulic rack in. While the rack should be fine the power supply to the pump will be a pain and might be best to deal with it when I add a PDM.
    • And finally, 2 problems I really need to sort.  Firstly as Matt said the auto trans is not happy as it gets hot - I couldn't log the temps but the gauge showed 90o. On the first day I took it out back in Feb, because the coolant was getting hot I never got to any auto trans issues; but on this day by late session 3 and then really clearly in 4 and 5 as it got hotter it just would not shift up. You can hear the issue really clearly at 12:55 and 16:20 on the vid. So the good news is, literally this week Ecutek finally released tuning for the jatco 7 speed. I'll have a chat to Racebox and see what they can do electrically to keep it cooler and to get the gears, if anything. That will likely take some R&D and can only really happen on track as it never gets even warm with road use. I've also picked up some eye wateringly expensive Redline D6 ATF to try, it had the highest viscosity I could find at 100o so we will see if that helps (just waiting for some oil pan gaskets so I can change it properly). If neither of those work I need to remove the coolant/trans interwarmer and the radiator cooler and go to an external cooler....somewhere.....(goodbye washer reservoir?), and if that fails give up on this mad idea and wait for Nissan to release the manual 400R
    • So, what else.... Power. I don't know what it is making because I haven't done a post tune dyno run yet; I will when I get a chance. It was 240rwkw dead stock. Conclusion from the day....it does not need a single kw more until I sort some other stuff. It comes on so hard that I could hear the twin N1 turbos on the R32 crying, and I just can't use what it has around a tight track with the current setup. Brakes. They are perfect. Hit them hard all day and they never felt like having an issue; you can see in the video we were making ground on much lighter cars on better tyres under brakes. They are standard (red sport) calipers, standard size discs in DBA5000 2 piece, Winmax pads and Motul RBF600 fluid, all from Matty at Racebrakes Sydney. Keeping in mind the car is more powerful than my R32 and weighs 1780, he clearly knows his shit. Suspension. This is one of the first areas I need to change. It has electronically controlled dampers from factory, but everything is just way too soft for track work even on the hardest setting (it is nice when hustling on country roads though). In particular it rolls into oversteer mid corner and pitches too much under hard braking so it becomes unstable eg in the turn 1 kink I need to brake early, turn through the kink then brake again so I don't pirouette like an AE86. I need to get some decent shocks with matched springs and sway bars ASAP, even if it is just a v1 setup until I work out a proper race/rally setup later. Tyres. I am running Yoko A052 in 235/45/18 all round, because that was what I could get in approximately the right height on wheels I had in the shed (Rays/Nismo 18x8 off the old Leaf actually!). As track tyres they are pretty poor; I note GTSBoy recently posted a porker comparo video including them where they were about the same as AD09.....that is nothing like a top line track tyre. I'll start getting that sorted but realistically I should get proper sized wheels first (likely 9.5 +38 front and 11 +55 at the rear, so a custom order, and I can't rotate them like the R32), then work out what the best tyre option is. BTW on that, Targa Tas had gone to road tyres instead of semi slicks now so that is a whole other world of choices to sort. Diff. This is the other thing that urgently needs to be addressed. It left massive 1s out of the fish hook all day, even when I was trying not too (you can also hear it reving on the video, and see the RPM rising too fast compared to speed in the data). It has an open diff that Infiniti optimistically called a B-LSD for "Brake Limited Slip Diff". It does good straight line standing start 11s but it is woeful on the track. Nismo seem to make a 2 way for it.
