wow, that was big of you. now that you remembered that one of the QLDers beat you...

have you remembered its a V8 Supercar yet? or are you still pretending it isn't?

by now it should be obvious why not one of the QLDers in last year's event turned up this year. Who's to say we wouldn't have turned up only to find the entire format of the event was something other than what the supp regs said when we entered again??? f**k that jack. They probably want to have fun, not be bullied around by uber political whingers who want everything their own way, but still lose, so 3 months later go a buy a V8 Supercar to make sure you can bludgeon all the amatuer built cars next year... good onya champ

Q) Harry - can you point us in the right direction to get results - what you've done in the last 7 years - while my partner and I have been running our Road Registered R32 and R33 in type SV, Sports Sedans and 2A? Eg for Harry I run our R33 in Sports Sedan, to make it simple - this is done to encourage and support newcombers in our eligable class

A) to above - I know its an ex V8 Touring car (12 year old) 8 years private owned - and it took me 12 months, rebuilding myself - and over 30 years hard work to get it. I also know it is 27km slower down the main straight than our R33.

As far as a politcal whinger - LETS DO A VOTE HARRY

Cheers

I don't go around trying to get CAMS Supersprint Panel and event organisers to change rules or the format of events I've entered, so I don't see how what I'm doing is political. I do sometimes try to get them to enforce the rules they have though... Which is a fundamental difference. You enter events and try to change the rules. I enter events hoping the rules they have are enforced.

yes, the cars I've driven and the events I've done have alot to do with whether a V8 Supercar is appropriate for a multiclub L2S sprint against an Alfa Sud and VW Beetle...

At the moment I have an average old <200kw S13 in full street trim. So don't worry, I'm no threat to your V8 Supercar. You don't have to change any rules or buy a bigger better car to beat me.

I couldn't agree more.

I couldn't agree more.

Thanks LSX-438 - so we were no support to you in the last few years I take it?

I didn't re-write the bible as you tried to - bugger you didn't pull it off. Rules!

Thats why we try and stick to whats written - good or bad.

My thoughts are - How f**kin rude!!

We enjoyed it - most meetings at Supserprints, Hillclimbs etc, and the odd stir on cyberspace at nearly 50 just got my full race license - and had too much fun in the last couple of years racing.

For the last 30 years ,if anyone wants support or help - we are there - as an old fart I beleive I have had some some handy tips - if you / they don't want to listen I don't give a rats - its a free country.

SO therefore - I am over the cyberspace crap - see you at the track - sprint - supersprint - hillclimb - race - enduro - targa - whatever car, whatever chosen event and using whatever credit card , we choose.

Cheers all - enjoy - we do - do you?

This is entertaining. Part High School Debate, part lunch time

I suggest to those that take Supersprints seriously enough that it results in this sort of debate/animosity ...

www.awardsandtrophies.com.au/Select/s24/MotorSport.aspx

Just go buy a trophy OR go race door to door in something like Saloon Cars or 944s and realise that being a good steerer puts you with about 85% of the guys doing it.

Just don't run me off the road when I am 8 seconds a lap slower then you and you think IO should take to the grass to let you through.

Trophys are not priority, fun in the car is - as most in door to door an eye on the mirrors can make it enjoyable for all.

I can't speak for all, but are most prepared to sit for a few corners if this is exceeded no doubt, some excitement about to happen.

Stick to your line, enjoy your time - if they are good enough ?

Cheers

Stuart, we've both helped each other out in the past BUT there is a bigger issue. Unfortunately you can't have it both ways:

a) Appear to be the nicest bloke in the world, someone who would practically help anyone. However,

b) If someone runs faster than you at the track, begin lodging protests and ambiguous objections, numerous rants to CAMS organisers (about specific people, their cars and various rules) THEN,

c) Deny it was you when asked and/or say it was other people.

Eventually you'll get found out. Which has happened. Several times now.

As long as noobody is running faster than you, everything is fine.

Otherwise we've got to play these silly games which is stupid, wastes everyones time and IMO ruins the sport. Perhaps this is the way it's done at all levels of motorsport (even sprints) i dunno. If so, then perhaps i had been doing it all wrong.

Is or just me or does nothing in Stuarts post make much sence........

It's like a whole heap of words jumbled on the page with no meaningful order......

^^^^ that's a serious question btw not a piss take, I'm confused after trying to read it.

There is plenty of cars faster than inwoods taxi. They just don't waste their time winning sprint titles....

I wanna see the car/driver run in the V8 touring category. Oh wait it did and was nowhere....

It did win a sports sedan race, everyone else crashed or DNF'ed so not sure if that ended in protest.

I guess if you can't beat them join them (didn't you try and get a trillion $$$ sponsorship and buy some corvette thing)

Guess if you can't join them and can't change 40yr old sports sedan rules dont race.

Soooooo go racing and clean up the club level instead, makes perfect sence to me.

This couldn't get much further off the topic of the Aus sprint, could it.

In the end Stuart's car was legal, entered, and won his class. Plenty of others could have entered but didn't, so that is just another motorsport "coulda".

And, Stuart's car is miles from the most expensive entered in the supersprint series....in fact it is probably Duncan's car that takes that honour.

I don't have any problem with anyone entering any even in a legal car - in fact if we don't all do that there will be no motor racing to argue about. Yes there are plenty of strange inconsistencies in rules, and I beleive they can and should be questioned so that motorsport can continue with enough support that we don't lose our venues.

Which it seams leaves poor punters with no budget and a street regoed car running with stripped out race cars who don't mind a bit of rubbing, I'm all for run what you brung but if I'm slowing you down then go up a group, don't ride on my arse, undertake or overtake me mid corner, most of the sprints I've done are with a great bunch of guys who listen to the drivers brief, sadly though there are 1 or 2 that think they are Fangio and when the blood starts to boil they don't think of the other people.

I'm slow and will ways be slow but I love giving it a go, like most other people no sheep stations are involved when I'm out there.

Don't get me wrong, everyone in anything is good to go as long as rules are followed and common courtesy is used.

There is nothing I love more than watching a well sorted race car go for gold, while my daily is cooling in the pits.

For the people who want to "race" do door to door, for the others ill see you at the track, ill be the guy slowing down on the straight to let you pass.

I do admit the rules for classes are a bit iffy and not really adhered to at club level sprints from what I've seen.

Bloody rain.

Better check results again, Theres heaps of better cars & drivers ! some on this site the sad thing is a few dreamers , So whats the issuue about seeking sponsorship.I havent changed the rules just some others did'nt comply , WTF are u on about sports sedan rules, so its not fair 2 run club level or national . f\u

I agree.

But there are other issues at stake. Which is why we have discussion forums.

If people want to simply ignore what suits them, whatever i guess.

Hell it will only bite you on the arse if you happen to a) enter sprints and b) be quicker than the compliantant (which i suppose is ONLY likely to affect a very small amount of people in the coming years, which is lucky and convenient for most).

Otherwise, ignorance is bliss.

The absolutely farking solid gold within this thread has had me thinking..... Did any corporate sponsors ever jump at the proposal?

Doesnt look like it but methinks the win at all costs effort at the sprints may have been to bolster the resume in an attempt to attract said sponsors.

Not so long ago sprints and supersprints were populated by the ordinary club blokes out for a run in their road registered cars for a bit of sharp edged competitive fun. Blokes who wanted to do real racing did just that, they picked a class and went from there, never the two to meet. Now we all know that nothing stays the same but thems are the origins.

Now we have fast road registered type cars lapping faster than many in race classes, which really have not kept up eg IPRA. But such cars are still capable and basically legal of being driven on the road with all the handicaps that entails. And it's still as great fun as it used to be :D Why someone with what is basically a race car well outside would seriously want to do sprints or supersprints escapes me, perhaps they can't cut it with their real opposition or are after a cheap victory they can big note themselves about to their mates.

260DET, we need everyone in every sort of car at these events, the thing is to keep the price down we need everyone, if I could afford to have a "race car" I would and I think I would still do sprints as all I'm after is a blast around the track with my times the only thing I would be competing against, I don't think I have the skill or inclination to rub paint.

Common sense and following some rules is all that is needed for everyone to have a super happy fun slide time, I've seen some dangerous stuff which could have been avoided in the short time I've been playing this game, which will and does scare people away from attending these events, which in the long run will damage the sport, in my humble and mostly uneducated opinion.

    • Yeah, that's fine**. But the numbers you came up with are just wrong. Try it for yourself. Put in any voltage from the possible range and see what result you get. You get nonsense. ** When I say "fine", I mean, it's still shit. The very simple linear formula (slope & intercept) is shit for a sensor with a non-linear response. This is the curve, from your data above. Look at the CURVE! It's only really linear between about 30 and 90 °C. And if you used only that range to define a curve, it would be great. But you would go more and more wrong as you went to higher temps. And that is why the slope & intercept found when you use 50 and 150 as the end points is so bad halfway between those points. The real curve is a long way below the linear curve which just zips straight between the end points, like this one. You could probably use the same slope and a lower intercept, to move that straight line down, and spread the error out. But you would 5-10°C off in a lot of places. You'd need to say what temperature range you really wanted to be most right - say, 100 to 130, and plop the line closest to teh real curve in that region, which would make it quite wrong down at the lower temperatures. Let me just say that HPTuners are not being realistic in only allowing for a simple linear curve.
    • I feel I should re-iterate. The above picture is the only option available in the software and the blurb from HP Tuners I quoted earlier is the only way to add data to it and that's the description they offer as to how to figure it out. The only fields available is the blank box after (Input/ ) and the box right before = Output. Those are the only numbers that can be entered.
    • No, your formula is arse backwards. Mine is totally different to yours, and is the one I said was bang on at 50 and 150. I'll put your data into Excel (actually it already is, chart it and fit a linear fit to it, aiming to make it evenly wrong across the whole span. But not now. Other things to do first.
    • God damnit. The only option I actually have in the software is the one that is screenshotted. I am glad that I at least got it right... for those two points. Would it actually change anything if I chose/used 80C and 120C as the two points instead? My brain wants to imagine the formula put into HPtuners would be the same equation, otherwise none of this makes sense to me, unless: 1) The formula you put into VCM Scanner/HPTuners is always linear 2) The two points/input pairs are only arbitrary to choose (as the documentation implies) IF the actual scaling of the sensor is linear. then 3) If the scaling is not linear, the two points you choose matter a great deal, because the formula will draw a line between those two points only.
    • Nah, that is hella wrong. If I do a simple linear between 150°C (0.407v) and 50°C (2.98v) I get the formula Temperature = -38.8651*voltage + 165.8181 It is perfectly correct at 50 and 150, but it is as much as 20° out in the region of 110°C, because the actual data is significantly non-linear there. It is no more than 4° out down at the lowest temperatures, but is is seriously shit almost everywhere. I cannot believe that the instruction is to do a 2 point linear fit. I would say the method I used previously would have to be better.
