Anyone know a rough cost of getting a rocker cover gasket done, mines leaking like a mother f**ker ?

Maybe 200-ish?

Best to ring a workshop or 2 and ask.

lol I thought you hated leftist beliefs...

Gambling silently destroys peoples lives and those around them without killing them = infinitely worse IMO. The only reason it isn't illegal, like everything else openly accepted as a negative thing, is because of tax. Oh wait, I forgot about cigarettes...plenty of tax in that too.

I play blackjack at the cas once in a while but honestly couldn't give a shit if it was illegal. If nothing else at least ban pokies.

I do (come at me Ali lol) .... my point was that for every Birds who wants gambling b&, there's an old dorry who hates performance cars

I don't really gamble, might throw a few bucks on roulette once in a blue moon... but banning = slippery slope to other bullshit. Perhaps I'm biased cos I'm not a knob who has wasted his life savings on the pokies (which are f**king boring as batshit btw, surely pissing your money away at the strippers is better?), but whatever

gambling? meh i don't mind people being stupid enough to blow their money aslong as i don't know them/care for them

lotto though, i'm sure there are better uses for those $20mill rather than just giving em to 1 person for no reason what so ever

I don't agree entirely with the slippery slope thing. There's tons of shit that is illegal nowadays and once wasn't, doesn't mean we have lost or will lose every right we have. Problem with taking rights away from people is, it could be the right to eat shit and if you take it away they will be pissed.

Gambling isn't exactly a civil liberty though, these pokies and table games were invented to take advantage of the human condition. At some point you gotta say people can't be trusted to look after themselves, for the same reason we aren't allowed to do any speed we want on the roads. Should be treated like heroin IMO...

+1 Engineering aint cheap :(

How'd you manage that? Must have gone up after I finished

Can you build sentry guns yet Pat?

I did robotics and software - should cover sentry guns quite nicely

Fair point, I'm just hesitant to call for banning things that CAN be enjoyed reasonably and safely (alcohol, cars are common targets that I happen to enjoy).... why should I have to potentially suffer cos some dipshit can't control himself/herself at the pokies etc?

I would distinguish heroin as I would argue it's much worse for oneself than gambling

Well yeah it was an extreme example, but consider that drugs and gambling aren't so different when one is addicted, people do anything and everything they can to get their fix of it until their life is destroyed. I might be biased here because I've seen the gambling consequences first hand from a family member, but having seen that I'm also aware of the destruction it can cause within a family, that we don't really consider when we walk through a casino.

And I agree we shouldn't have to forego our fun because some idiots can't be responsible, sure would be a nice gesture of altruism though. It's a small price to pay to save a lot of families. What annoys me is that there have been no effective solutions to stop problem gambling because it's not in a government's interest to do so.

    • Have a vb in honour of the car comming back
    • It was a great, but typical track day, and some VB was ingested at the night time debrief 🤪
    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.
