In a modern day men can jerk off, but why when it feels better if a girl does it?

It's not about needing to, it's just a nice gesture of courtesy. Women can open doors themselves too, but I'll still do it because chivalry is a nice thing. As Tony said, there is a difference between being generous and being taken advantage of.

And I don't care how independant women want to get, how much they earn, they will still naturally be attracted to a man who can give them security both physically and financially. What's $40-50 worth of dinner for a date anyway? Think of it as an investment on the sex you may or may not get later.

I always aim to split the bill on the few first dinners, IF the girl has a secured full-time job.. you can always show courtesy by other means imo.

Pay for it next time, trust me! On a dinner date you have a couple of hours to give the girl good reason why she should see you again...you make her pay for dinner and that's valuable brownie points you're missing out on, or if she's expecting you to pay, then you're undoing all the good conversation you had with her throughout. "He was a nice guy...but he made me pay for dinner, chivalry is dead blah blah".

And it's not all about just impressing her, you have every right to your own expectations from a girl etc., which you will judge her on...but you might as well play your best game on game day if you're sure you want to see her again.

Wouldn't it make girls run away?

Unless you're capturing her by talking about your favourite country? (can't say the country without forum autocorrecting to something in the universe)

What if the girl is unemployed university student, make her pay half?

I did once get called a shrewd by a girl who lived in Winston.. split the bill with her. She was a lawyer working in a large firm in the merger & acquisitions dep. shes a big girl (maturity and income wise) to take care for her self.. Never heard from her again. Her loss :)

Nothing impresses a girl more than bringing out your calculator to work out how much she should contribute ot dinner and how much you should tip the waiting staff.

Single huh?

Its called being wise.

I can't see the logic behind spending enourmous amount of money on your girlfriend unless its your wife, then you're sharing incomes together.

If you want to go out and joy some time together, get her to pay for the bill every now and then. If you're having to pay over 60-75% of the time, shes using you and most likely screwing some one else behind your back.

My mrs offers to pay for pretty much everything pretty much all of the time, and she doesn't do it as an empty gesture. I still pay for most stuff (dinners/movies etc) but usually have to force her to let me pay...She's a keeper :)

I'm sure she's shattered.

I use to split / take turns with my girlfriend when I was studying or else we wouldn't of been able to do as much stuff as we'd like. Never had a girlfriend or been on a date whilst working full time I'd be more than happy to pay for the dinner bill.

She can always pay you back later ;)

The fact that she rarely finishes a meal when we go out for dinner, I'd feel bad if she paid considering how much I eat lol...I usually finish her meal off anyway

Yeh that's fair enough, one thing that really does get to me is when your beginning to see someone and if they never even offer. Maybe I'm just a tight arse but that's a big loss in my books.

A long term relationship is different a lot more variables and a f**k generally isn't given.

    • It was a great, but typical track day, and some VB was ingested at the night time debrief 🤪
    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.

    • Unsolicited advice? Keep the engine as close to stock as you can. Nothing wrong with adding some boost and making a little more power, but given where you are, you really don't want to try to make it into a monster. I can't imagine the roads are up to it, and the lack of locla support when it grenades will be a ball ache. FWIW, If there is a dyno around that you can access, then brand new injectors are a good idea, which will lead you to (at least) putting a Nistune in it, which will allow you to put an R35 AFM on it, all of which will make it possible to make it much much nicer to drive and live with.
