Why the non-desire to run 25 psi? You're only going to be doing it to compensate for lack of mechanically obtained cylinder pressure, aiming to get to the same cylinder pressures that you wanted originally.

Just do it.

And contemplate ensmallening the cams. Doing so would be perfectly cromulent.

Posted 24 May 2012 - 11:05 PM "thanks bud ill have to book it in for another tune but i really dont feel like runing more than 25psi of boost i know the engine is built and all but i do want to keep the car for a bit longer and reliability is my no1"

Boost level is not a factor in engine life. Fear of high boost probably derives from the inability of the stock RB25DET turbo to run safely at much more than 11 - 12 psi and then it was the disintegration of the turbo ( and subsequent risk to the engine) that was the danger not the amount of boost per se. Max power is a factor in engine life and a bigger factor is a good tune.

ill speak to my tuner and see to bump up to 25 psi, other thing i am considering is running E85 like BMYHOE

but will my fuel set up be enough for the E85?????

the only think that sort of draws me back from e85 is the octane level does change from season to season, the blend falls down to about 70% -30% in colder seasons

thoughts????

Caltex hasn't changed much from 70% since it was introduced. I would run Caltex in winter for the easy cold starts and swap maps to United in summer if you want the e85.

I saw this today and couldn't believe the power the SR was putting out with a GT35...

i find that power figure out of a standard GT35 hard to believe. i have only ever seen a couple make more than 420-430.

Tune in winter when the pulp content is higher, Not that it makes any differece unless your tuner is taking your setup to the ragged edge,

My setup was done in winter then rechecked a couple of times in summer , no issues what soever.

Once you have used e85 you will never go back. The car runs so much better and engine temps are noticeably cooler. Good stuff!

im running 24psi but spike back to 19 by redline..

im using clatex e flex fuel as above it hasnt changed its ethonal rating since i started using it - NOV2011

you may need to add anther 044 fuel pump possible dash 8 fuel supply line..

not sure on the 850cc injectors in using 1000cc's

yeah i spoke to my tuner today he said at the same boost level (19psi) using e85 we should see somewhere within 350-360rwkw mark using the same fuel set up that i have now but bumping up the fuel pressure a bit. He highly recommended it.

if i do decide e85 and 25psi boost then my future intensions are

1000cc injectors like you said

earl braided fuel line

and another 044

thanks all on your inputs

well guys today was the sad day for me i found out y i only ended up mking 320rwkw,

ill start at the beginning

My friend had the car i have now, he has had the engine built by SMD workshops in sydney and had it tuned there too only a run in tune though.

i decided to buy the car of him and get it tuned there too, by the same guy using ems stinger ecu.

becuase i was buying the car i had to ask him what was done to the engine what pistons rods other things he used. fuel system etc

he said he had a 50mm greddy , external gate, greddy 850cc injectors, the whole ignition loom was changed blah blah blah, but little did he know that i have a bit of knowledge about cars unlike my unfortunate friend.

when i went through the whole car i figured it was starting funny, noise was a bit different which put a question mark in my head, i realised its got nismo 555cc injectors, cheap $110 ebay external gate, ignition loom is original as its a ser 2 loom. and all the other bulshit he said was not right,

i then ended up putting an external fuel set up surge tank 044 etc. nismo reg, with a real 850cc injectors, turbosmart 45mm pro gate etc etc

he couldnt get it tuned it was overboosting then it was just runing gate spring pressure boost and all other dramas including timing which he said it was ok but when i checked it the base timing it was 30 degrees in advance, and i said just leave it cos the car was going on a truck to adelaide the next day.

i ended up putting haltech plug in platinum series ecus and had it tuned everything finally fixed, new plugs etc etc everything done properly and ended up making only what i made.

now to cut the story short i realised my oil catch can was filling up with oil it overfilled and spilled everywhere on my driveway and along the LH headlight

i knew something was wrong so i did a compression test 1 cylinder was good 2nd, 3rd, 4th,it all went fine until i checked the cylinder pressure on 5th cylinder where i found only 60psi of cylinder pressure :( hmmm

an engine that has done less then 5000km has gone ka boom

suprisingly the car doesnt blow white smoke at all

well who is to blame tuner, builder, myself???? but ill not point a finger at anyone cos shit does happen :( although i wouldnt trust the guy from SMD workshop in sydney thats all he made me realise that he talks a lot of bull crap, anyway

the car still drives awesome with pleanty of power lol :) but i just know what i have to do,

head off to figure out what went wrong :(

other thing i found rear exhaust muffler the inside diameter is only 2.5inch :(

yeah well they are supoused to be Je pistons, have shotpeened rods, all acl bearings, cometic multilayer head gasket, arp bolts, etc etc but honesly i dont believe a thing he said, my friend did inspect the engine before he put it in and it all looked that its been properly built, but d question is, did he put that engine in it or a standard rb30 cos he did have few rb30 blocks there :/ will find out the hard when i pull engine apart

If its stock and he gave u reciepts its fraud

yeah it was preety much like that lol am not really pissed off its just it came at the wrong time i was always wanting to build an rb30 that can withstand a real punishment. maybe this is my time, SPOOL has got a preety good stuff that he sells. but finding a trusted builder in adel is a bit hard u hear stories of other people and it just makes u wonder :(

thats y i do as much as i can, i am a car sparky but have a broad mechanical knowledge

Don't roll over that easy, it's the principle of the matter. If it's been done to you and the guy gets away with it, what's to say he won't do the same thing to someone else again later?

I say confront the bloke about it, but don't start accusing him straight up. See what he says when you question him about what you have found.

    • Hey everyone, I recently bought myself a 2001 Nissan Stegea M35, and I've had a few issues that I had to fix, my car would start intermittently and I had a bad rocker cover leak, after a couple days of looking I finally found a part number that interchanges with the OEM starter as the OEM starters at $1300 and I can't afford that, this starter was only $270 and I replaced the start and still had the same issues, I posted a video asking for help online and it went very well, some guy said it was probably a bad ignition switch so I took my dash apart and turns out my ignition switch was half screwed in and was loose, once it was tightened it fired right up, I found a local place called "Boost factory" and they sold me a part of OEM Nissan rocker covers, they were $600 which was a shocker but I couldn't find them anywhere else, so I installed them and fixed my oil leak as the old rocker cover was cracked and warped, I now need to replace my boost air inlet hoses as they have some cracks.
    • I am being real ocd and do not want to make amy mistakes so appreciate all help provided. I am overly cautious so asking for opinion even if i know the answer   few questions,   1.re tensioner, should spring be greased lightly?    2.tensioner has two washers , one pressure washer and other has recessed/ seat. I am going to put the recessed one facing tensioner where edges are cut out and pressure washer on top   3. my car has custom triger kit sold few years ago by guy who initially built the engine. I moved the crank gear and it moved in and out easy, only way to remove belt is to slide the crankshaft gear forward which I did. I have seen these being very tough to move , anything to do with my woodruff key?   it has a crank sensor shown in purple which I assume reads from the 12 teeth position mounted to the crankcase gear   4. timing belt doesn’t have arrow stating front or back just a arrow which I think is direction of rotation . Do you agree?   5.i figured out why my crankcase cover was worn as there was no washer installed over the crankcase cover before the harmonic balancer was put in place. It is missing, anyone knows the part number? It looks like this https://justjap.com/products/genuine-nissan-crankshaft-timing-gear-rear-plate-washer-nissan-s13-ca18-a31-r32-rb20-r33-r34-c33-c34-c35-rb25?currency=USD   https://tinypic.host/image/IMG-4535.382Zy2 https://tinypic.host/image/IMG-4537.382dSz https://tinypic.host/image/IMG-4534.382q4U
    • CTIS (Central Tire Inflation System) has existed since the 80's. I'm looking into buying a Hummer H1 and they generally included it.
    • My idle is set at 950rpm though - Moving the timing around 20 degrees is not really what I'd call a calm idle. That said... neither is chop, by definition. The LS ECU likes to adjust timing to hold idle as opposed to air. It'd work, but generally speaking there'd be a discrepancy in the base idle and the IACV would want to move the timing around anyway to maintain said idle. I think I'm just going to keep the timing steady anyway. Preserve my engine mounts.  My aircon is now officially regassed. As the guy was reversing I noticed my reverse lights do not operate, along with my reverse cam. This is a bit distressing, because 100% of guides talk about which wire to connect to backup cams as "the goes with the [other color] wire". Often when doing conversions. Unfortunately the R34 colour wires aren't documented Unfortunately I had a T56 Magnum gearbox with it's reverse switch, which also isn't documented. Unfortunately there's definitely not documentation for people with both of these in the one car. Unfortunately I forgot. After many hours of this, I have a reverse cam and reverse lights again. The wire going through the trans tunnel to the reverse switch had broken. Upon inspection, it looks like this one wire had about 7 spade terminals and extensions in it.. for reasons I cannot possibly comprehend. I also spent the 750 hours required to clean up the wiring behind my head unit which now looks like this: This is a monumental improvement relative to what used to be there WRT triple gauges, head unit, traction control, wideband controller, and whatever the f**k OEM stuff still exists there in various states of connectivity/needed. Next step is to check in at the Exhaust shop to see/confirm how much clearance I have, to decide what mid mufflers or 'resonators' (which are just straight through, narrower mufflers) I can add and hopefully cut out a lot of exhaust leaks, pinhole, v-band or otherwise. But first step will be to 'take a look' before the next step.
