Walk510. Stop posting in this thread. Im not interested in a Motec and your posts are of no relevance to this thread. Your posts are also impossible to read.

Thank you.

What is the internal closed loop boost control like on the two ECUs?

Its great once you get it right. And, its exactly the same on both. VIpec=Link Link=Vipec..

dear kitto

your on a forum your asking peoples views and people are giving you there views i never said you should buy a motec i say you may like to compare them nothing more

if you cant handle someone s views maybe ring someone

these threads are just like a vipec bukkake session

who the hell is walk510? and why does his posts look like that? im not even going to bother reading his posts.

i never use the closed loop boost control, some people don't like change or can be bothered with it.

I'm not having a dig at you. I'm just saying, i'm not paying for a Motec. But you seem to keep going on about it.

I created this thread so i could learn what the differences are between the Vipec and the Link and which one would be better suited to my application.

Yes i'm aware the Motec probably has more functions and capabilities but they come with a very large price tag.

The Vipec and the Link seem like very powerful units and well priced for what they can do.

Ah, so you just use a separate controller like a Greddy Profec B?

Any reason you dont like to use the closed loop boost control?

Its great once you get it right.

Can you clarify? How much work is it to get it right? ($$$)

This has been an interesting read as my YB Cosworth needs a new ECU to replace its Pectel. I just dropped in to the Vipec forum and it seems there is still regular questions about boost control, traction control, comms to PC issues and some sensor issues.

It still seems to be the go for backyard boffins who are willing to work through little issues to get reliably working.\

It can be a little fiddly to get spot on, but once you find the sweet spot in the duty cycles its brilliant. Never have to worry about any boost spiking.

You dont HAVE to use closed loop. You can just use the normal open loop boost control on the link. There is zero need for a standalone boost controller.

The reason i was keen to use closed loop is because in NZ as you all are aware it gets quite chilly :) And when it gets cold, the boost goes up.. the open loop wasnt holding the boost down to the level i was happy to run in the cold weather. But with the closed loop, regardless of the conditions it will boost exactly what you want.

Also in my case on the track (Rb25 + GT30 .82 internal), when the exhaust temps were getting up it was spooling up VERY quickly. The closed loop was struggling a little bit there, but thats because the internal gate is stupid :P And i wasnt keen to spend big money to go external. So on the track i turned it off and just run wastegate boost. Still plenty fast enough ha.

Well this car is my daily and runs 26psi with an internal gate turbo so needs to be pretty good closed loop boost control as what is offered by the Pectel that it currently runs.(tuners and software for Pectel are few and far between)

Also, who is the cheapest V44 dealer ?

having spoken to a team member from NZ super tourer's team today i asked him about there ecu's

issues no data at all for 2 race meetings ,coms problems, engine temp sensor reading 110 deg C when it was really 80's due to faulty calibrations and there just a few

Issues like that are almost always wiring or user/setup issue rather than the ECU itself, they are pretty much all 100% the same, identical firmware, identical software, the only variables are the inputs going in and the setup/tuning of everything.

the temp issues were the whole pit lane i was told everyone was trying to get the engine to run cooler till they found it it was a faulty calibration ! rolls when your the control ecu of a series thats a bit of an issue

a tool is only as good as the person using it. and clearly you and your "team members" have not RTFM, or have any idea how to calibrate an ecu whatsoever.

take your hating elsewhere.

"my flex commodore wont work with diesel, holdens are rubbish mate, i had to remove it and put petrol back in it ahhhhuhhhh hehha heeeee"

idiot internet trolls, why do i bother.

Someone stuffed something up then, its not a problem with the ECU - you seem to be adding a lot to the thread without adding anything useful, what are you trying to achieve?

    • I feel I should re-iterate. The above picture is the only option available in the software and the blurb from HP Tuners I quoted earlier is the only way to add data to it and that's the description they offer as to how to figure it out. The only fields available is the blank box after (Input/ ) and the box right before = Output. Those are the only numbers that can be entered.
    • No, your formula is arse backwards. Mine is totally different to yours, and is the one I said was bang on at 50 and 150. I'll put your data into Excel (actually it already is, chart it and fit a linear fit to it, aiming to make it evenly wrong across the whole span. But not now. Other things to do first.
    • God damnit. The only option I actually have in the software is the one that is screenshotted. I am glad that I at least got it right... for those two points. Would it actually change anything if I chose/used 80C and 120C as the two points instead? My brain wants to imagine the formula put into HPtuners would be the same equation, otherwise none of this makes sense to me, unless: 1) The formula you put into VCM Scanner/HPTuners is always linear 2) The two points/input pairs are only arbitrary to choose (as the documentation implies) IF the actual scaling of the sensor is linear. then 3) If the scaling is not linear, the two points you choose matter a great deal, because the formula will draw a line between those two points only.
    • Nah, that is hella wrong. If I do a simple linear between 150°C (0.407v) and 50°C (2.98v) I get the formula Temperature = -38.8651*voltage + 165.8181 It is perfectly correct at 50 and 150, but it is as much as 20° out in the region of 110°C, because the actual data is significantly non-linear there. It is no more than 4° out down at the lowest temperatures, but is is seriously shit almost everywhere. I cannot believe that the instruction is to do a 2 point linear fit. I would say the method I used previously would have to be better.
