Hello there,

I am looking for a replacement for the OEM rubber intake pipe since I suspect it sucks itself shut.

Are these silicone replacements any good or should I rather get a metal pipe (ApexI?)

Just an example:

Thanks ..

I did this as well, but only in the upper third of the hose section.

I used a 100mm aluminium pipe but I suspect that the lower part

of the hose collapses.

I've used those silicon ones, they've collapsed on me running 1.3bar... proceeded with hacking up the stock one and putting in an alloy section in it... all good :)

Scotty - do you make these to order? :P

If so could you PM me with a price?

I would need a 4" one for a low mounted GTX3071R, with the BOV return and catch can return inlets (I can supply these from the old pipe I have), going into a custom air box which I am yet to build. I am not running a MAF sensor so the pipe would go straight into the box.

So you want a 4 inch custom intake, made from 4000ks away with second hand bits? Sorry Justin, I can't work miracles. :P

BTW, I am making 350kw on a 3 inch pipe, why do you feel 4 inch is required? Or a custom airbox for that matter? The 80mm one above will do you fine. If you're running map sensored can't you just vent the bov?

Fair enough :P

I dont think the 4" pipe is a requirement, it just might be easier considering my turbo has a 4" inlet, and my airbox will be custom built. And I'm building the airbox for the challenge, I want to have a play with fibreglass and see what I can do (which could be a spectacular failure).

As for venting the BOV, I would rather recirculate if possible.

I haven't used one of the ebay pipes that you have listed but I have used SFS silicone intake pipes and they work fine. They have wire re-inforcement buit into the wall of the pipe so they don't suck shut.

With the poor exchange rate it might be worth you getting a custom pipe made up in the UK rather than importing an Apexi pipe in. A company near me does a lot of custom pipework but they might need to have the car to do it.

Thanks Stu / all,

I'm really torn which route to go from here.

I am using the standard air-box with one of those green foam HKS panel filers.

(am considering using an ApexI panel filter)

Long background story ->

My boost drops from 1.2BAR to .75 starting at 4500rpm.

I talked to the turbo company (Turbo Technics) and they said the turbo (a hybrid) holds 1+ bar at 7000 rpm on a GTST.

My intake system (after the turbo) is fine so I suspect it is the hose or the air-box setup.

That's why I wanted to change the suction hose or possibly the air box.

I heard that the air-box is good for 300kw, but I doubt that the intake snorkel can accommodate 80% more airflow(?)

Option A is:

Silicone/metal suction pipe + ApexI panel filter

Option B:

Apexi suction kit

I like the standard air-box and am not sure about the benefits of a cone filter

Here's the ApexI kit:

My car makes 340HP at .75Bar (that's at the engine) and if I could get the boost back

it would be some horses more ;)

    • A 1.5 way is a 2 way. It is just a 2 way with a less aggressive ramp on overrun.
    • The ABS and/or TCS being missing/broken will not cause the engine to misbehave. It just casues CEL to come on and annoy you. The CEL is useless if it is always on, so you have to do the things you have to do to get rid of it, so it can be useful. Being a Stag ECU, then yes, it will not expect TCS to be present. But it will expect ABS to be present and working. You will need to either make the ABS CU talk to the ECU (don't ask me what that will take on an NA R34), and make sure the hardware is working....or, you just need to blank it out in Nistune. Do not persist with the stock ECU. You will just have problems. Gte it Nistuned. Start from there. DO YOU HAVE A BOOST SENSOR? The ECU's boost sensor that it. It is connected to the loom at the rear of the coil cover. Usually rides on the firewall on an R34, but is usually bolted down to a bracket along with all the other crap at the back of the coil cover when a Neo is dropped into another car. If you do not have it, the ECU will shit the bed. So, do you have one?
    • So sadly the fuel pump etc was not it. The pump and filter is new and it is still cutting around 4000 rpm. A read something about ABS/TCS (engine is from stagea and ECU too so no TCS) and i dont know for 100% that my car has ABS. It has ABS "cube" in engine bay but i dont think it works(or at least from my braking experience). Can be something like that?  I will be driving the car next week to Nistune tuner to properly see what is wrong...
    • the Tomei LSD fluid with lsd kit. frustrated that it was shaking the car to crap and affecting everything else negatively, I pulled the diff last night, and removed the lsd carrier, could not find anything wrong, however it seem to be 100 locked up acceleration, and deacceleration, wondering if they sent me a 2 way not a 1.5??  either way I installed the stock open carrier back in place. test drove everything smooth as butter again. no shake, shutter, random, what felt like clutch slip and grab or drive shaft play, etc. something differently wrong in side the lsd. I might bother taking it apart (if possible) to figure out what's going on inside this carrier, as bought too long ago to return.  only draw back is its back to a one wheel wonder.
