knore
Ive generally used the specified weight to determine what a car weighs, but i was wondering if there is somewhere you can actually get your car weighed properly? First that comes to mind is just going to a council dump where you drive up onto the weigh bridge  then just subtract your weight from the cars Considering this is like $10 ide say it would be the cheapest, and im fairly sure its accurate to 1 KG Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/41498-how-to-weigh-your-car/ Share on other sites
predator
Weigh bridge. But yeah, i am curious too.. If you go let me know and i'll come also Where else can you find them? Although this is probably a QLD specific thread. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/41498-how-to-weigh-your-car/#findComment-851056 Share on other sites
Roy
Most accurate way would be too take it to a susp place as they have coner weight scales to measure the weight under each individual wheel (All 4 are measures at once though) Weigh bridges are calibrated in 15kg / 20 / 25 / 50 kg increments...whatever it is they arent accurate if you want to know plus/minus 5kg Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/41498-how-to-weigh-your-car/#findComment-851066 Share on other sites
Cecam
As above I think the dump site weigh bridge go in 20kg increments (sp?), but bulk carriers like grain warehouses sometimes have accurate (1kg) scales.... Greg
I took my car to ABS for a shock absorber test, and as part of the test they weighed the car - it showed weight on each corner. cost $30 for the test though. rb25
When i rego'ed my car in NSW i just took it to a chicken farm and had it weighed there and the RTA was ok with that. It put me in a lower rego bracket than that stated by the RTA too. The 33 came in at 1350 and cost 2 VB tallies to weigh. -rb25 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/41498-how-to-weigh-your-car/#findComment-852130 Share on other sites
predator
was that with you in the car? I think r33 are a little lighter than people think. Should be able to get it down to a flat 1300kg with a few basic removals (spare, back seat, sub, etc). Most actual readings i have seen have not been up around 1400kg as people make out. MM2death
Weighed my 32 GTS-t at a brick manufacturers own weigh bridge on the weekend. Weighed in at 1.40 tonne. Subtract my weight of 60kg, which equals 1340kg. Scott Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/41498-how-to-weigh-your-car/#findComment-853058 Share on other sites
MM2death
It cost me nothing as well. It had it's own digital readout. I just went up the the forklift driver and he said go for it. knore
Ok, well thanks for the info guys but we still havent found a definitive, accurate and cheap place to weigh our cars. We need somewhere all of us can rock up and get weights, quick and cheap. Sumo
weigh bridges get tested every couple of years. They get the accreditation so that the weights are official when they weigh trucks... legally it binds them into a contract to deliver X amount of load to the destination. predator
Just have to find a truck weigh station... be nice, pay whatever it is, and whack the car on. Should be plenty about. I am sure they are pretty quiet most of the time. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/41498-how-to-weigh-your-car/#findComment-854824 Share on other sites
knore
Ok, so are weigh bridges owned by the council/government or a company? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/41498-how-to-weigh-your-car/#findComment-854916 Share on other sites
