new ps lines in

just need a belt and some ps fluid

then to jez to have a new surge tank made ( i think the low quality alloy of the tank made by profab= corrosion on the inside= blocked injectors?) the only thing i have not replaced

article on cheap alloy and corosion

f**k you brad

Thats an interesting read mr fatz. As you found your fuel on the day to be A ok then this seems like a very possible cause. As we know doesnt take much to block up the filters on injector baskets.

I can't see why the surge tank would be a problem. You may not be happy with Brad but that doesn't make his aluminium corrode. Plus I've been running one of his tanks about 12mths longer than you without any issues, there are plenty of them out there.

I think you need to look somewhere else. Feel free to point and laugh if I'm wrong

Have you got a fuel cooler Pete ?

It's looking to me that E85 does not like getting hot and when it does it starts to lean out the engine :(

As for the filings, could it be simple a case of he didn't flush the tank or lines ( if using braid that is ) out properly ?

I had a lot of fuel temp issues due to dodgy injectors and kept getting major lean outs, mine was actually due to an O ring swelling in my injectors after changing everything else... The fuel cooler does a pretty good job now and on track it keeps the pumps pretty quiet, however it was only fitted as the fuel temp was an issue due to something causing it, not just due to track use.

The amount of times i had my injectors out was silly, turns out they were the wrong ones! They look near identical side by side too.

Sorry if I was a bit vague this mourning Pete, I was struggling to hear you, the cover on my 6+ is crap :(

Thats interesting Mat, can you explain the o ring issue a bit more

I'm in the same boat as Pete I think, the longer I was out their the more it played up

1st session car ran fine, end of second session ( 1st passenger ) it was starting to break down the 3rd session I got like 5 laps then I had to come 4 session I got 4 laps, 5th session ( the one I did a 1.04.6 in ) I couldn't even do a full hot lap

I drove on to that session and the fuel was already 42deg when I came back it was just on 70 :(

I think my issue is fuel heat soak but I am very curious to know what the O ring issue you had was and how it effected the fuel for something else for me and Pete to look in to

Probably unrelated to your issues, mine was completely the wrong injector, not rated for E85 causing the O rings to swell... They were some POS 1400cc things!

Oh, lol, ok cool then, I have ID1300s so I should be sweet there

I have the XSPURT 2000's and they havent missed a beat since they have been in :)

    • The oil pressure sensor for logging, does it happen to be the one that was slowly breaking out of the oil block? If it is,I would be ignoring your logs. You had a leak at the sensor which would mean it can't read accurately. It's a small hole at the sensor, and you had a small hole just before it, meaning you could have lost significant pressure reading.   As for brakes, if it's just fluid getting old, you won't necessarily end up with air sitting in the line. Bleed a shit tonne of fluid through so you effectively replace it and go again. Oh and, pay close attention to the pressure gauge while on track!
    • I don't know it is due to that. It could just be due to load on track being more than a dyno. But it would be nice to rule it out. We're talking a fraction of a second of pulling ~1 degree of timing. So it's not a lot, but I'd rather it be 0... Thicker oil isn't really a "bandaid" if it's oil that is going to run at 125C, is it? It will be thicker at 100 and thus at 125, where the 40 weight may not be as thick as one may like for that use. I already have a big pump that has been ported. They (They in this instance being the guy that built my heads) port them so they flow more at lower RPM but have a bypass spring that I believe is ~70psi. I have seen 70psi of oil pressure up top in the past, before I knew I had this leak. I have a 25 row oil cooler that takes up all the space in the driver side guard. It is interesting that GM themselves recommend 0-30 oil for their Vette applications. Unless you take it to the track where the official word is to put 20-50w oil in there, then take that back out after your track day is done and return to 0-30.
    • Nice, looks great. Nice work getting the factory parts also. Never know when you'll need them.
    • Thanks @jtha7 I will have a look around tomorrow but it is a prick of a spot. These are some photos i tried taking
    • I take it that the knock retard is from bearings tapping a little tune? Thicker oil is a fragile bandaid. You need a much bigger oil cooler and probably the bigger pump being discussed.
