Bit of an update, got the front flares to a point I am happy with.

Started on the rear flares, cut the bottoms back off and started again.

Wasn't happy with the bonnet hinges I made so decided to use VE commodore boot hinges, had to create a pocket each side for the hinges to sit in.

The motor has been dropped off at JPC and the seats are at the trimmers.

Cut off the sill to repair the damage.

Had the shell dipped at Recoat paint stripping and have now started spraying the epoxy/prime.

Yes had it dipped at Recoat paint stripping, they work out of their shed behind their house. I don't think Recoat smash repair are going anymore after the death of a worker the other year.

Update time. Having the shell dipped has turned out to be more work than I thought.

About 14 holes have been drilled in the shell that they never told me they were going to do so these had to be welded up.

Yes that is a hole drilled in the middle of the roof skin.

I was surprised at the amount of rust that started to form under panels, I had tack welded the sill panel and two extra roof braces on to the shell and removed them when I got the shell home.

There are also spots where it looks like acid is still leaching out of the seams.

I was also surprised at the amount of body deaden-er and seam sealer that was still in the shell.

The black shape in the middle of the photo is one of the many big of body deaden-er.

I have had to strip and clean and sand every part of the shell so finally got the inside and underneath painted with KBS.

One coat of silver KBS, still need to seam seal then a coat of black KBS.

Were the holes for drainage? breathing?

And yes, poor form not to at least advise. Maybe they assumed you knew? First I've heard of it but I have never done this level of work to a shell.

I've never thought of painting the inside of the body with KBS. My plan always only included doing the under body...but now you have me thinking....

Will this be the only form of sound deadening in the interior, or will you still be putting something like Dynamat under the carpet? Or, is this KBS just a sealer / rust killer paint rather than a sound deadening coating?

    • Thanks mate, couldn't find in VIC, ended up ordering one from NSW, getting rwc to get new plates and registration done.
    • Before all the EFR fan boys come in, have a look at: https://www.garrettmotion.com/racing-and-performance/performance-catalog/turbo/g-series-ii-g30-825-58mm/ It also comes in a T4 1.06 divided housing. I would dare say if you want response & also decent power, this thing would chop.   AND apologies, just re-read your post, you've already bought the turbo... whatever you do, make sure you stick with divided housing and proper twin scroll manifold.
    • People have got to stop doing that. ShatGPT is not a search engine. It is a hallucination factory.   I also would recommend the 1.05. The .83 will "work" for you , in that it will be more responsive, but I think you'll find that it won't be anywhere near as good running it out to 8000rpm as the big housing will be.
    • Decided for the first time ever I would tow my car TO the track day on the same working theory as bringing tools and spares "if I have it I wont need it, but if I leave it behind i will 100% need it" all setup and ready to go out and try these A050 for the first time First session showed I needed to stiffen up the dampers a touch but still managed a few 1:21's without much effort. things were looking good. Came in a dropped the tyres down  to 26/28 as they had gotten to 35/33C from 22C cold The first lap of session two I managed to drop into 1:20's. Then in the second lap into the second session. Coming into T3 and I suddenly lost brake pedal followed by some huge rear end vibrations and scraping sounds. Got it back into the pits after session ended and found this. in the attached video, all of the wobble is in the hub its self, wheel is mint, and bearing feels tight. lKXLqpd - Imgur.mp4   Deciding it was a bent spindle I tried to find bearing/hub assembly locally but was unsuccessful so it was loaded back onto the trailer i luckily brought it on to drag it back home
