I have 18x9 inch rims.

Deciding what size tyres to get.

Car is lowered on king springs

Tending towards 235 40 and 255 35 OR 225 45 and 245 40

Give me opinions but I want pictures to help me decide....

I like the look of stretch to be honest but want something "reasonably" practical as well.

PICTURES ARE KEY..so put them up if you have any (please)

More so than the size, will be the tyre brand, and type, that will affect the look. Example; whether it has a rim protector, sidewall stiffness etc.

Here's a picture of 215/45/R17 Federal 595's on 9.5" TE37SL's. Notice how the Federals are quite 'square' and don't give much of a stretched look.

235/40 on 9" rims is a mild stretch and by far the cheapest. If you want mild stretch at a reasonable price there is no other option worth considering, all round.

It's also the right diameter. Otherwise 235/40 & 265/35 rear is a good mix, but 265/35 is not stretch on a 9" but is a good vertical fitment (you'll need offset over 30 to fit).

But, the tyre design does play a part.

good choice, not a fan of stretch.. if you want a smaller tyre, run a narrower rim

255/35/18 (what I had before I put those Falkens on) were slightly stretched, 245/40 was even more (both KU31). 235 would be stretch regardless of tyre design lol. All down to preference.

265/35/18 Potenza TS-02 on same 18x10. Note they have rim protector, which gives a more stretched look.

Tyres are designed to fit a particular range of rim widths. If you "stretch" a tyre, then the rim is probably not within the design range of the tyre. If you run a tyre on a rim that it is not designed for, you run the risk of having insurance invalidated - car will be unroadworthy. And frankly, any tyre technician who stretches a tyre onto a rim should be shot.

Frankly, if you only want, say, a 235 tyre on the car, then get rims designed for a 235 tyre. Don't try and "stretch" them onto a rim designed for a 265 tyre. We'll all be safer on the roads.

.........However since you were quite "animated" with your response I would like to point out that every single manufacturer / website or person I have interacted with have mentioned that a 9 inch rim should have anywhere between a 235 and 255 tyre !! So first of all running a 265 on a 9 inch rim does not meet your own definition of "roadworthy".

Richards tyrepower suggested a 225 (without me saying a word about any size) just for your information and I have the email correspondence. So please do not shoot them or we will know it is you !! hahahaa

Anyway you rightly pointed out that insurance will be affected with the wrong size tyre and I accept that and thank you for your input.

I have ordered 255 35 18 Ku31s from Tempe ($200 delivered) for the record for the rears. They are out of the other sizes at the moment.

The picture is 10 inch..i have 9 inch....unless you mean it will almost overlap..and yeah like i said iv already got 255s for the rear

      That sounds like no chance of even importing one for road registering then Now I see why Duncan wants to check LHD rules for Targa...   I wonder how "bolt in" the AWD would be if you got one imported from the US and swapped it to an AUD one
