For winning the v8 super taxi race at Winton today.

I didn't expect them to come close to winning in their first year, but they led pretty much from start to finish today. Great job for such a new car.

Mid pack all year then a 1-2 by half a lap, funny how it happens like that.

The engine regulations for the nissans (and maybe the mercs as well, not sure) changed for this weekend. that's why they suddenly got the performance gain. I wouldn't be surprised if they tweak the regulations again after this weekend. If they dominate again tomorrow then I'm pretty sure they will.

I just find it funny that the kelly bros are getting beating by the employees, lol

And the nissan's aero package is slightly better than the ford/gm package (to help make up for their slight deficit in power), so on the Winton track where it's not so much about power, then they have an advantage. So the parity isn't quite equal yet

"They're not even Nissans. Makes me laugh muppets driving their Maximas with Nismo stickers thinking they are driving a race car.

Still not as quick down Conrod as the old Sierra which made more hp on 98 fuel and 2L!"

LOL, couldnt help myself. Good to see Kelly-Nissan Racing bag a result. Moffat for gods sake? Never thought that punk had talent during hid DJR days....

yeah I did enjoy the paying customers beating the Kellys too, just an added bonus. Rick was 14th, Todd 24th.

I'm not sure the Nissans suddenly have more straight line power, if anything they are just getting back to even. More likely that Winton is too tight to let the hp difference matter.

And yes Roy....they've all been sports sedans for 20 years now. That doesn't change the fact it is great to see Nissan putting money into motorsport, and getting something back for it today.

I wonder what the go is with Rick and Todd...at this rate they need to think about just running the team and getting some others in their seats. I thought Todd used to be quite quick...Moffat has left them for dead with all his top 10 finishes.

I know Duncan...i was (poorly) taking the piss out of all the flk that have paid out on the Commos and Falcons for years

Winton rewards cars that have drive out of the corners and good mid corner speed, both things that the Nissan's are supposed to have a lot of, but as others have said, they don't have the top end speed still, but that isn't as much of an issue at Winton as anywhere else on the calender.

i like the look of the hornets over the rest of the field.

re nissan speed.

they where saying that the nissan where trying a different blend of fuel to help with fuel economy.

less weight = better speed?

Yeah they are trying to get better economy or they will have no hope in the enduros unless there is constant safety cars. They are going to struggle at Phillip island, sanddown and Bathurst (especially Bathurst) as it is because of their straight line speed

Great result for Nissan with their fist 1 - 2 finish in a long time.

Winton appears to be a track that requires good mid corner speed and power down out of corners and these are two things that the Nissans are doing well. What is required is some more straight line speed for them to be competitive at other tracks.

There were only 3 cars in the field running E70. Maro Engel in the Merc, Moffat and Caruso. Engel finished ahead of his team mates, which is a rare occurrence seeing as he doesn’t know the tracks. People think something is up with the E70, so tomorrow all cars will be running E85. I will be interested to see if Moff, Caruso and Engel do this well again running E85.

    • The chart of front pressure to rear pressure (with one being on the x axis and the other being on the y axis) is not a straight line on a typical proportioning valve. At lower pressures there is a straight line with one slope, and at higher pressures that changes to a lower slope. That creates a bend in the line at that pressure, called the knee point. If you do not change the proportionng as the pressure gets higher, you will suffer excessive pressure (at one end of the car or the other, depending on which way you look at the proportioning action) and then get lockups at that end. The HFM BM57, from my memory of previous discussions, is based on the BM57 from a different car (to a Skyline), with a different requirement for the location of the knee point and the distribution of pressure front to rear, and so is not a good choice for an upgrade on a Skyline. Here's a couple of links to some old posts, one from here, one from elsewhere. A lot of it pertains to adjustable prop valves, but the idea is the same. There are plenty of discussions on here about this issue from al the many years of people wanting a cheap/accessible option. https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/ https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/
    • Yeah dunno why johhny posted that here with no context, just post on FB/insta bro where he put it up?  Laine had an off at T4 during Thurs prac, he's ok, car is less than perfect, they are done for the weekend, he can fill in the rest. Bando also binned it like 100m up the road.
    • I feel there must have been a FB/insta post and the weekend did not start well at all I hope everyone is all okay
    • Yeah, I guess its pretty easy to get to if this doesn't work. Just wait till next oil change and pull it out. I am going to have to do the oil pan gasket soon and thought I'd just replace it while I was there.  Thanks
    • All that matters is you're safe and you were able to type that post. Hopefully heaps of parts you can recover for the next shell.
