Hey guys well there goes my clutch in my R34 GTT Series 2.

Currently its got 200rwkw but soon to hopefully be 300rwkw.

Spoke to a few reputable clutch dudes, and they told me to go a Exedy R33 GTR race clutch as the r33 gtr clutches have a higher load clamp which will aid in holding in the power.

What if I just go for a R33 GTR Solid button or Cushion button? if so what would you recommend? It's my daily although I'm pretty rough.

Second thing, what are some good trustworthy workshops in Sydney to fit them as I have really stuffed my back and can't do it myself anymore.

I've been quoted $900 to replace clutch, machine the flywheel, new gearbox oil & rear main seal, this is by the workshop that usually carries out the work on my car and tuned it, it just seems a little too steep for me, normally it would be $400 for labor, $90 to machine a flywheel and around $100 for the oil and thats max for the oil, how much is a rear main seal?

What do you guys think I should be paying to get this service and also what are you're recommendations on the clutch.

Also should I get a lightened flywheel? any side effects of getting a lightweight flywheel? I'm used to N/A so normally it's the better thing to do although with turbo I'm not sure, as it will be less load I'm guessing the turbo will be laggier? should I just leave the standard flywheel?

Please help me ASAP as this is my daily driver and I need to get started on it asap, thanks.

^haha excellent reply as always!

I'm in your same shoes, except i'll never breach 200kw (if ever), and I recently snapped up the Nismo single plate clutch + nismo flywheel from another member here. Went to my mechanic, asked him - he said it should be about 500$ for all of that. My mechanic is in hornsby, PM me if you want more details.

Yeah I know that, but what are you're thoughts on this that's all, I mean if there is enough reason to go to NPC I'm always up for it, I got a quote from there today although I have never used them before so I'm not sure on them, Jim B is the one that told me to just go the Exed, Hornsby is abit of a mission I'm in Rockdale, so does anyone know of anyone closer to me, thanks.

You're going to get 2 or 3 recommendations to buy an NPC clutch, 2 or 3 to buy one from JB, a couple for Nismos of various sorts and probably a couple of others. After this you will no doubt go and do your original post's suggestion.

Hahah great reply. That's pretty much what happens on half the threads started on car forums (on every subject, not just clutches).

Heaps of people run NPC clutches so go with them. If it stuffs up, you can get angry at NPC and the fanboys. If it works fine, you can become said fanboy ;)

Which one should I go for with the npc.

Cushioned button h/d kit $992.20

5 puk carbotic h/d kit $907.50

They are different options for a reason. Ring them and tell them what you want from a clutch, then buy the one they tell you to.

HOLY FUARK that's exxy...

go to them directly over the phone and talk to Doug, it's cheaper than whatever prices you got there.

If you're never going past 300kW and it is driven on the street often, get the organic.. the carbotic is "interesting" to drive although both have about the same pedal effort as a stock clutch (hence awesome).

I've used:

  • Exedy Sports Ceramic (3 Puk version) with NC10T - expensive, too heavy
  • Exedy Sports Organic with NC10T - expensive, too heavy, died in 2 years (didn't like my driving style)
  • RPM - biggest croc of shit, plate was good but the pressure plate was farked, so I got rid of the lot
  • UAS - Button - He's a trader here, no comment
  • Xtreme Clutch - Piece of shit, uneven wear from homo looking pressure plate

Hey John thanks for the reply I got the price via email, what do you mean by the carbotic being interesting? Is that a button clutch, pretty good price compared exedy and xtreme, I'll call Doug in the morning and let use know, what do you guys say about a lightened flywheel, thanks.

Go the NPC 10" sprung button. Soft enough pedal and great clutch. I just pulled mine out after having it a few years and apart from normal wear it looked great. No hot spots or damage whatsoever. Sent it for a rebuild to save me pulling the box again later and have it back in less than a week.

They have been great to deal with

Also recommend getting one of their lightweight flywheels

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
    • You haven't driven many modern cars then have you? Most of them have sfa steering feel with their stupid electric bullshit steering systems.
