Been looking at a car for ages, Its common sense every young guy wants the greatest car, as his first car, But its a learning car, So meh i dont mind, (im still after something decent)

I would buy a r34, for one its my first car i dont want to ride off a good car (if i do) there mostly turbo, cant drive etc.

What would you get as your first car, Only decent cars i like a s15/14's, R34 * R33, Supra, Wrx, Thats about it, Like there all not cheap cars, Arghh its annoying. Any advice?

you should consider insurance when deciding as well all those above, including that ferrari will charge you out the arse for insurance....

if i had to get a first car around now... I always like the early 2000 liberties, good for highway driving, leather seats ect... mum had an auto one, id prob try and find a manual if possible, any auto car shits me to tears unless on the highway

Get an old grandpa car, like a crown or something, more possibility it hasnt been thrashed like an r31, you want something that has had an easy life and is ready for you to abuse it with everything breaking that way you can save and buy something nicer when your ready, plus your friends wont want you to be designated driver if its ugly as.. Hahaha

Hahahahaha ! so true, yeah very good points, thanks man. hahaah

my first car was a 92 civic with a F'd clutch.. was great for fuel.. insurance was cheap as chips and having a shotty clutch i could drive alot of aftermarket clutches after moving on because it was almost an on off switch haha. it was battered and beat but ran 350,xxxkm with out a fault

get like a mazda 626 or primera or anything for under 5k thats had a grandpa life they mostly decent on fuel no atention from police. and insurance is not ridicules.

like mentioned save until your on your fulls to buy a nice turbo car in good condition, you dont want to skimp out an buy a cheap dud turbo car on its way out, and you will have most of the work cut out for you since you wont have to do a full turbo conversion and having it off the road for a lengthy period of time.. plus you will end up having much more money, respect and experience for it when the time comes

you may hate driving a nana car for a few years most people do, but think of it this way. in that few years time how much money can you have saved to say buy your future r34 and treat it to some nice new treats?

had a friend who went and bought an NA s14 on his restricted license (P plate equivalent) and regretted it because it wasnt "as quick" as other non turbo cars these days sold it for 3k less then he bought it for, before buying something half decent when he got his full license. cant say he was to impressed

just my 2 cents :) good luck mate

    • Will have a look at that. I cant see any leaks
    • Put another overflow bottle (ie, a 1.25 coke bottle or similar) under the overflow hose and see if it is being pushed out there or if it is disappearing into the engine.
    • Staring on a stand is no issue. You just have to wire everything up, give it fuel and cross your fingers that the stand is robust enough. Arranging the inlet plumbing is often the hardest part, without any surrounding structure to hand some of it from. No need for coolant if you only want to run it for <1 minute. As to the gearbox - I think the little Aisin box is a bit stronger than the other small Nissan boxes that went behind SRs, but I wouldn't be too keen to test its limits with the torque of a boosted 25. I don't know if you can retain the box and the tailshaft. The box won't connect to the RB without an adapter of some sort, which is either a plate that will push the engine forward (which is not good for fitting it into the bay's available space) or push the box back, which messes with the box position and tailshaft length - OR - cut and shut work on the bellhousing, which is a long way from "least modification". I'd be buying a new 370Z 6 speed or similar, doing what has to be done to that to make it fit RB (ie, cut and shut bellhousing) and the requisite tailshaft custom/mods.
    • Hi Everyone I am from West Pennant Hills in NSW. Been too busy until recently to attend to my RB25DET Series 2 engine until recently. I am planning to stick it into the S15 shell at this stage, unless a nice SR20DET turns up... For now, i am going to try and get the RB25 running and working well then decide what gearbox to use. My preference is to retain the SR20DET  6 speed gearbox and tail shaft to retain as much and least modifications as i can avoid. I am an old guy and won't be doing any heavy drifting so i don't need a bullet proof gearbox Does anyone have experience with starting the RB on a stand? I got everything setup as much as I can with the info i can find... endless searching and videos on Youtube I would be great to get some pointers Cheers Songo
    • Hey all, Recently have had my s1 r33 gtr serviced and noticed my coolant reservoir was topped up to the max line. Took the car out for 1 yesterday and noticed today the reservoir is completely empty.  Any ideas? Radiator is full
