Anytime I look for diff info, the same came up : 1.5way good for daily and time attack.. 2way are SH*T, only good for drift.

BUUUUTTTT... I was thinking about it... if 2way diff are so bad, then why did the BNR32 ( not sure about the others) came with 2way oem ?

Honestly, I never felt my car dangerous to drive/handle... or is that because my diff is worn and not really acting like a true 2way diff ?

As you can imagine, I'm on the hunt for a rear differential and was wondering if I could simply buy a 2way instead of sticking to 1.5way ( which are rarer to come by on the used market)

It's because 2-way and 1.5-way describes diffs in about the same way that "Stage 2" describes a cam. It's not enough information.

The definition of a 2-way diff is that it applies locking effect on both accel and decel. There is no component of the description that describes exactly how much locking effect is involved, except that it is approximately equal in both directions.

A 1.5-way diff simply provides less locking action under decel than a 2-way does. In this case the name implies a ratio of sorts between the two locking actions, but still doesn't say exactly how strong the locking action(s) is(are).

The factory R32 diff is a 2-way diff, sure. But who says it has the same degree of locking action that a tight-as-f**k aftermarket diff has?

I wouldn't use a 2-way (aftermarket) on a daily unless I absolutely needed it for some other part of that car's usage pattern, because they're not pleasant to live with. And also, unless you allow for it or drive aggressively to overcome it, the added understeer caused by a stiff 2-way diff can be not fun also.

1, 1.5 or 2 way is not really the issue in daily driving as said above, the issue is how "tight" or aggressively the diff locks.

a standard gtr diff is 2 way but not tight and you will never notice it as an issue in daily driving.

    • haha don't worry I'm sue you've got more fun ahead buying a 30 year old turbo car....but at least you are in the right place to ask
    • some days eh? The keyless entry and interior light on/off with the key will be controlled by the Body Control Module, but I'm not certain where that is or what it looks like (you might get lucky with a search to get a part#, which could be printed on it). I'd start at the A pillar/ Under dash/kick panel on the driver's side
    • It might be hit and miss, but Nissan Genuine Parts and Pitworks are not the same thing, although both are available from Nissan Dealers with Nissan Part Numbers. Nissan Genuine Parts are the OEM stuff, Pitworks are their attempt to get people back from generic parts makers
    • I did end up getting it sorted, as GTSBoy said, there was a corroded connection and wire that needed to be replaced. I ended up taking out the light assembly, giving everything a good clean and re-soldered the old joints, and it came out good.
    • Wow, thanks for your help guys 🙏. I really appreciate it. Thanks @Rezz, if i fail finding any new or used, full or partial set of original Stage carpets i will come back to you for sure 😉 Explenation is right there, i just missed it 🤦‍♂️. Thanks for pointing out. @soviet_merlin in the meantime, I received a reply from nengun, and i quote: "Thanks for your message and interest in Nengun. KG4900 is for the full set of floor mats, while KG4911 is only the Driver's Floor Mat. FR, RH means Front Right Hand Side. All the Full Set options are now discontinued. However, the Driver's Floor Mat options are still available according to the latest information available to us. We do not know what the differences would be, but if you only want the one mat, we can certainly see what we can find out for you". Interesting. It seems they still have some "new old stock" that Duncan mentioned 🤔. I wonder if they can provide any photos......And i also just realized that amayama have G4900 sets. I'm tempted too.
