It has a back up battery, ive set mine to record for a extra 2-3 or so minutes after ive left the car, i run mine off the lighter socket, can be hard wired in to permenent 12v, then it can store any movement around your car it detects when your not around, will only record the movement it caught on screen.

It also has a shock sensor so any knocks are recorded.

GTRPSI do you still have the vid to post it?

I use a GW1H (not very good) flashed with DOD software (better), the gf has a G90 which I will give to mum and dad and shes getting the G907S when it turns up. This is 2300x1080p @30 fps or 1920x1080p @60 fps.

ill prob get one too and move the G1wH to the rear window and probably buy a Mobius for the rear when the mrs updates her car

i just got a Transcend 200
works well, has 160deg view

came with a big memory card
has all the usual stuff but also has its own wifi so you can stream and downloand to your phone and setting on the phone.

has no battery so has to be plugged in but not a drama. uses a long live capacitor to save settings ect.

also has no gps which is a plus. the gps are often inaccurate so you can be left with an overlay of incorrect speeds which can read to high or read that your mocing when your stopped. these can become legal issues.

Same, people laugh at me for having it, but then i show them these and they go.. "hmmm, maybe ill get one"

I use a JB HiFi cheapy and its been great (I cant find it on their website any more).

powered off the lighter or about 3 hours of battery it has full length single video or 5 min rotating video's. Doesn't log any data but its saved me an at fault insurance claim and helped someone else claim injury compo

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrAFE1MaReA

Guy tried to say I hit him and I was suppose to give way cause I hit him in the back half of the car. Who knows where people get their logic from. The insurance fixed my car but then rang me saying from his story they are putting me at fault, I gave them this footage and didn't hear anything of it after that.

Guy's insurance was doubting the level of "impact" for the chick to have sustained her leg injury. Turns out only the witness can supply these as evidence as they told her that she cant submit it for her claim. Her insurance rang me asking what happened, hinted at the video but never asked for it directly, I offered it and they jumped at it. once they had it they ended the convo pretty fast, I guess its all they were after.

She did get her compo

I would be interested in an upgrade just for the data tracking abilities, If there is a group buy forming, I'd like some info.

You could have so easily avoided that first incident. The moment he put his indicator on, you accelerated so that you could block him out (you were travelling well behind him at the time). Sorry but that's just a cock move - plain and simple. You were lucky to get away without blame, because your video shows you being a dick. What's the rush? drop back a metre and give the guy room (or even hold your position, as he could have fit into that gap). Yes, he has to give way when changing lanes, but by being patient, you could have avoided the accident (regardless of whose fault it was).

YKWRGMG? Dickheads who have to assert their authority on the roads, no matter what the cost (yes, wrong thread I know - but seems topical)

I agree with the above post.

Total wanker for speeding up. You saw his indicator otherwise you shouldn't be driving.

I'm sure heaps of people with dash cams go out looking for trouble, your video proves it (in this case)

Vans have a blind spot. Everyone knows that you sped up. You are a tool . Argue all you eat but it's clear as day.

Just cos insurance settled doesn't mean shit. They make judgements on hoe much it costs to go to court vs just paying out for retarded shit like this.

Surely just slowing down is heaps easier than going through all the shit of an insurance claim. Even if "not at fault"

Tl; Dr

Don't drive like a dick head. Imagine if someone did that to you.

Yup it could have been avoided but the truth is, I didn't notice the indicator.

For the most part I will let people in especially If I'd have noticed him coming out of the side street and trying to get over.

Pretty hard to miss the indicator flashing for 5+ seconds and then a 2t white van moving across in front of you. Lucky for you the other party didn't pursue.

Anyway, dash cams are pretty handy, especially in cases like the second video.

I've got a few close calls recorded on my dashcam in the GT-R, that's why it's locked up in the garage these days (I should really install one in the Poosar).

i know mine only records when it has power which is when the car is on. you could hardwire it to run 24/7 but your would just record over everything in a short period of time.

i thin ksome more pricey ones can record after a gforce sensor triggers and runs from battery for a short time.

Any use for recording when the car isn't being used? I only ask because mine was gone through in the shed last night by some local miscreants. Would be amusing to post their mugshots up if such a device was available.

get CCTV on the shed rather than a dash cam. better quality, better night mode, can watch it from inside.

You can get cams that have motion sensor and runs on battery. The Chinese GT300 or whatever I got used to have good battery for a few months (always plugged in I'm guessing killed the battery), now the battery lasts 30 seconds.

    • Yeah, it's getting like that, my daughter is coming over on Thursday to help me remove the bonnet so I can install the Carbuilders underbonnet stuff,  I might get her to give me a hand and remove the hardtop, maybe, because on really hot days the detachable hardtop helps the aircon keep the interior cool, the heat just punches straight through to rag top I also don't have enough hair for the "wind in the hair" experience, so there is that....LOL
    • Could be falling edge/rising edge is set wrong. Are you getting sync errors?
    • On BMWs what I do because I'm more confident that I can't instantly crush the pinch welds and do thousands of USD in chassis damage is use a set of rubber jacking pads designed to protect the chassis/plastic adapter and raise a corner of the car, place the aforementioned 2x12 inch wooden planks under a tire, drop the car, then this normally gives me enough clearance to get to the front central jack point. If you don't need it to be a ramp it only needs to be 1-1.5 feet long. On my R33 I do not trust the pinch welds to tolerate any of this so I drive up on the ramps. Before then when I had to get a new floor jack that no longer cleared the front lip I removed it to get enough clearance to put the jack under it. Once you're on the ramps once you simply never let the car down to the ground. It lives on the ramps or on jack stands.
    • Nah. You need 2x taps for anything that you cannot pass the tap all the way through. And even then, there's a point in response to the above which I will come back to. The 2x taps are 1x tapered for starting, and 1x plug tap for working to the bottom of blind holes. That block's port is effectively a blind hole from the perspective of the tap. The tapered tap/tapered thread response. You don't ever leave a female hole tapered. They are supposed to be parallel, hence the wide section of a tapered tap being parallel, the existince of plug taps, etc. The male is tapered so that it will eventually get too fat for the female thread, and yes, there is some risk if the tapped length of the female hole doesn't offer enough threads, that it will not lock up very nicely. But you can always buzz off the extra length on the male thread, and the tape is very good at adding bulk to the joint.
    • Nice....looking forward to that update
