Yeah i love the look of it, yeah going to be going to about -3 and see how we go but i have a feeling were going to see -3 rear and -4 front in the end but at the moment i have absoloutley no data on them but do have abit of a plan of attack from a guy at racing ready in canberra he has been awesome giving advice and just chatting on FB etc..

Well i have been trying to pin down a couple of the little odds n sods jobs on the car that have been bugging me for a while, one being we have had no wipers for ages as when i was splicing the loom somewhere along the line they stopped working.. so traced back through and have rewired them so now we have fully functioning wipers.. yay haha will be good as were coming into crappy weather.

Also when we went to the dyno the E-Boost wasnt working and couldnt for the life of me workout why so just ended up running a boost tee until we could fix the problem and as it turns out with the E-Boost there are several boost maps and i was on a different boost map that i never even knew about so thats now fixed

Also wired up the E-Boost to display tach and have been wiring up some LED shift lights to the Haltech and that has been a drama in itself lol.

Weather is pretty crappy this weekend so will maybe try get brake ducts modified on the LHS of the car now and tidy up a couple of other loose ends.

Will post some pics tonight for everyone reading :)

Cheers

Didnt get quite as much done this weekend as i would have liked but new shift lights are fitted after abit of a headache. So a 5000, 6000 and 7000 rpm light so will now have abit more of an idea of where were at

Also tidied up the brake ducts that were once under the front bar i have now fitted them to the original indicator position and have moved the indicator to the original parker lense.

Well my new wing has arrived... to say im excited is a major understatement.

Cant use all 3 elements in Sports Sedan can only run a single element at 1830 wide or dual element at 1600 wide. The dual element will provide slightly more downforce but i think im going to just run the single for a while and try get the balance right. I dont think the wing will see the car for a while tho lots to do before hand.

With the long weekend approaching i am moving the car to a mates place to look into abit more aero design, so going to try make an undertray, front splitter and possibly look at starting a rear diffuser.

After abit of a curveball with work next week i didnt get to my mates place to throw the car over the pit to have a look. But i did manage to have a look at the front splitter and start designing it up.

So shot over to bunnings and got a 12mm MDF sheet and started cutting. Have mounted it to the front X member just infront of the steering rack, then also have 2 more bolts off the front caster arm mount and another 2 off the rad support. I have run 8mm threads down so that i was able to wind a nut ontop of the MDF so that i can lift or lower the splitter. So currently i have it level with the chassi rails so i think that will be a good starting point. Under acceleration it will lift up and chanel extra air into the rear diffuser and hopefully increase rear DF then under brakes it will dip and hopefully increase front DF. But i figure that there wasnt much point fitting the wing as ots just going to unbalance the whole car so see how it feels with the splitter.

Next will try filling out the floor pan and flatten that out then look at the rear diffuser and mounting the wing.

Cutout the undertray for wheel clearance but hopefully keeping air off the arms

Splitter mounts just need to cut through the front bar for the supports

Will be cutting out the bumper profile soon just want to get it all mounted 100% so then can do my 100mm for the maximum splitter length.

Haha cheers dude its possibly the single most expensive part that i have bought for the car to date...

Managed to pretty much finish the splitter there is still abit i want to do to it to get it 100% but for now its good. Just gotta build an airdam off it to get the most potential.

So with the splitter almost completed i have started looking at the undertray so now im going to have to redo the whole exhaust system to sit between the rail and floor. But unfortunatley the side skirts i hated have made a reappearance.. they sit perfectly inline with the rails so coming off the rails to the skirt would make a decent support.

Have been chatting to Josh from MCA and its looking like im possibly going to be saving my pennies and getting some red's as the next major purchase i think.

  • 3 months later...

Well i ended up having a customers car come into the shed for a whole heap of work... but i cant seem to add in pictures at the moment..

Well his cars out and the R34 is back in so i have been through the wiring loom again and removed the last of the original loom and wired up the wipers and brake night to my custom loom. So were slowly getting there but i have also focussed on the front splitter/bumper so have started shaping that in fiberglass and will try pulling a mould in a couple of weeks once happy with the shape.

Sorry i cant seem to upload pics this app isnt letting me for some reason :(

Just found this thread now, awesome build mate!! Couple of questions out of curiosity:

Have you driven the car in anger yet with the MDF splitter, does it take bumps/kerb/abuse ok?

Are you using the same material for the undertray? I wonder how it would go with the heat from the engine bay?

What did you use for brake ducting? Looks like a pretty large diameter duct in the photos. Also did you find/fab a flange to connect it up to? I've been chasing some that would direct the airflow to the centre of the disc but they're pretty tough to find...

Nah once i got the splitter on and even with the supports i didnt like it so thats why we are doing the fiberglass bar abit earlier than planned as the new bar design incorporates the splitter so i will be able to give it sufficent strength and support. I think if you used maybe 19mm mdf it would be fine but the 12mm i dont think has enough strength and for what the 19mm would weight i think it would out weigh any benefits.

The undertray is going to be from ACP (aluminium composite panel) like diabond as you can get it in 6x2m sheets so i can have the floor as a single piece. I have seen people use the diabond in wheel tubs so i would expect it to be strong enough and withstand heat.

The brake ducts at the moment are actually 4" aluminium range hood ducting from bunning so it was like $10 for 2.5m instead of the racing stuff at like $30 per foot. In my opinion it is too big.. i was struggling to actually get the brakes warmed up around mallala atleast. There currently just attached to the lower arms. Once i get abit more confident with the fiberglass i plan to make a hat that blows into the center of the disk and out the vents in the disk. And only have 2" feeding it.

Good call on the splitter material.

This splitter install on an 86 is pretty cool with the turnbuckles, I'm keen to try something similar at some point: https://youtu.be/LvEbqTv-my4?t=2m25s
Also the one on this RX7 build looks pretty trick, made out of alupanel: http://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/447297-my-rx7-s8-track-car-build/?do=findComment&comment=7772399

Yeah the high temp brake ducting is very pricey... Also you're right the 4" seems huge, I had a good look around last weekend with the front bar off and I would probably struggle even with 2" duct on the driver's side as I have the PS cooler core taking up a lot of space there.

I cant see the picture maybe its an issue with my internet. Yeah i thought about turn buckles but unfortunatley this whole car has a pretty strict budget and i know the turn buckles and stainless were only gonna be probs $100 but i had the ally sitting in the scrap bin and figured what the heck.

That RX7 is cool i do like that! Might endup incorporating something like that into my splitter design.

Yeah i couldnt justify it to be honoust that was why i went the 4 and originally it was only sitting under the bar so how much air it was getting was actually questionable but once i fitted them to the indicator holes it was getting too much cooling.

So thats the new front bar design. So the small opening in the center will be the new inlet for the new radiator/IC design so that should be some fun in the future. Were going to be going to a jeep radiator and cutting up the tanks abit and laying it flat near the cam sensor and making a vent out the bonnet so see what happens but it should be fun. The cars now getting abit out of hand and i really just want to drive it but im currently really enjoying making the custom bits

    • What's wrong with the OEM filter. They do the job perfectly. As to your actual problems. Stop driving the. Take it to a mechanic. If you actually do have a fuel delivery limitation and you are putting it under load, you could be killing it.
    • Enjoy Japan!  Need someone to carry your bags........??
    • I don't know the answer, but my uneducated guess is this will not work (or, not as you want it to). I would wire the SLD into VSS1, I bet that is what the limiter uses However, I also bet the ECU compares VSS1 and VSS2 and throws and error if they are different. Best suggestion I can make is wire it into VSS1 and see how you go, I guess the error will only appear above 180 when then SLD is active. If it appears at lower speeds put a switch into the SLD earth (or power supply) and only turn it on when you need to go over 180.
    • Hi all, So, looking to do some general maintenance on the car, as it has developed a some slight (related?) problems; Three problems that I think are related. 1999 R34 GTR RB26 - engine will sometimes cut out while left on idle, but will keep going if I keep throttle input. Usually after having driven a while. Its random, somedays wont happen at all, others will happen once or twice in a half hour drive. - Second issue is that while driving, the car will sometimes not be able to get past 3k rpm, no matter how much throttle input I apply. - Lastly, car will sometimes be real laggy climbing through rpm, but if I apply lots of throttle problem will seem to clear and go back to normal. All issues come and go, again somedays no sign of any problem, other days will just be stuttering around for ages.   I think it might be either the fuel system, or maybe the AFM?   Either way, I am going to clean the AFMs, and replace the fuel filter, use some injector cleaner in the next few fill ups, and might look at doing the fuel pump aswell.   Question I have, is filter such as; https://www.efisolutions.com.au/pro-fuel-filter-30-micron-an8-orb-black Fine to replace the normal filter? Their product page says as a prefilter only and not as the main EFI filter, so I'm guessing I would still need the stock one? Can I get an aftermarket one that has AN8 fittings to replace the OEM one? Or is the OEM one just something you have to live with?
    • I say this and there’s a Nistune r34 GTT MT ECU for sale on eBay.de but I need to figure out compatibility between the AT harness and MT ECU - TCS considered. I figure this HKS SLD is a quick bandaid anyhow.
