For a street car you'd need to swap the piping to stock, and paint everything black (including fittings and fuel rail) and ditch that catch can setup to a more humble looking one. Then you should have a good chance of getting away with things from most (not all) cops.

Also a varex adjustable muffler would be a good investment to avoid the cops

X-force's Varex mufflers are easy to spot with the chunky motor mounted on them, and apparently they are illegal for street use in Victoria if they are above 90db fully open. If you have one installed the controller has to go somewhere... another thing to hide from cops. Boost controller - EPA. Two induction mods - EPA. Aftermarket ECU - EPA.. Not worth the hassle unless you don't mind taking the risk.

If you're still looking, check out this bad boy from Queensland, similar mods... I actually prefer this one, only $58k with a genuine Nismo Z-tune carbon bonnet (costs $8k+)... which makes me wonder why they cheaped out on the cheapo LED tail lights rather than genuine Nismo, Nagasaki Auto or Sunline Racing items.

People in Queensland appear to get away with far more than us for modified cars on the street...

Thanks for the replies gents and the extra link to another car.

Would prefer to buy something from VIC as they know what we go through in regards to car mods haha.

Will have to see what is available in the next month or two if nothing comes up then will have to import one.

Thanks again and I will let everybody know how it goes.

  • 2 months later...

Haven't been searching much especially since VIC these days have a few 34's for sale (2).

I was in talks with Iron Chef about a possible import option, but I am going to Europe for 2 months in July - so have put it all on hold.

Looking at SAU forums ad's and carsales the Exo X came to mind. New from showroom or go with the 99-02 GTR. Yes yes I know this was covered many many times, both are in their own leagues. Heart says GTR brain says Evo, still a lot to consider.

The next car I will get for at least 15yrs + so will be in it for the long haul. I'm thinking EVO might be the better option, but will see how it all goes when I return. Will keep you guys posted.

Also thanks for all the pm's and advice given here.

If you are talking about the last version specs of the Evo think that would be way too pricey. Sorta like a limited edition, one of the major off putting things for the Evo's is the interior, for a $60k pricerange you really don't get that much. Heck my 09 Audi A4 has better trim then them. Then again people don't buy them for the interior pieces.

Been searching around here and there and I'm leaning towards the Evo X.

It will either be a brand new Evo from the dealership which they want about $57k, but ill be offering $50k (as I've been calling around and they are willing to go that low, probably because of the last edition that will be coming out).

I've also been looking at this: http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Mitsubishi-Lancer-2014/SSE-AD-3525864/?Cr=1

I dont like the F&F Led interior lights but apart from that will be a good pick up if he has the spare parts, however not for $55k esp since its done over 35,000kms.

Thoughts?

Looks like you bought the car that Dan was offered...

Well it matches your Profile Pic...

Please tell me it was an NSX.

Got offered 2 other cars. The 34 is a 2000 vpsec (grey interior :( ) but has all the fruit for 480hp or so, is currently at racepace so I can speak to chris about it. under 50k's supposedly still has factory rotors so beleive to be genuine (of course would check). Also missing skirts and rear pods. Seats are up to 2k just for the fronts and I would want black, but I could just as easily buy nice race seats for that money or less, but then need black rear interior. Also needs MFD film replaced as is common.

The 33 is a wild card, looks like a beautiful series 3 in my choice of wheels and colour and a built 26/30 with 500kw 0_0. Apparently wants 34 money for it though but said he has spent 140k on it and "everything is new and pristine".

Haha good eyes - yep thats the same one. Lucky for me Dan was happy to help out and also pass on this car :worship:

Car is amazing, it has all the mods I wanted (Power FC, HKS25/30's, tomei downpipes, 19" te37' etc...) the only thing what is left are cosmetics (but they will come in due time).

Each time I drive it im just smiling away like im having a stroke haha - such a joy thing to take out. With 356kw at the wheels its probably the fastest car I've ever driven - just need to hit the track to test it out.

I just need to get used to the staring, pointing and people taking pictures of the car - apart from that no complaints!

Tnx again Dan - like I said beer on me :D

Sounds good!

How do the HKS 2530's go? Technically they are Garrett -5's...

How do they feel in the 2.6lt or is the engine built?

How much boost you running?

356 kw's is a decent number as there would be quite a bit of pull on boost.

Haha! Bayside Blue R34 GTR's do attract people.

To me they go crazy, full boost is as 4k rpm, they are running just past 17psi. Engine isn't built but does have cams - it also helps that Racepace has been servicing it since it was imported (2008).

Well today was first time I took it to red line, safe to say legs were shaking for hours later because of the adrenalin haha.

One thing im trying to figure out is the space between the window seal (think thats where the window deflector goes?) there is a gap is that normal and safe if its raining? Been trying to search the forums with no luck

Yea when i picked up the car from Racepace it has potential to do a lot more, just needs a tune. But think this is plenty for many months to come haha

    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
    • Hi,  Just joined the forum so I could share my "fix" of this problem. Might be of use to someone. Had the same hunting at idle issue on my V36 with VQ35HR engine after swapping the engine because the original one got overheated.  While changing the engine I made the mistake of cleaning the throttle bodies and tried all the tricks i could find to do a throttle relearn with no luck. Gave in and took it to a shop and they couldn't sort it. Then took it to my local Nissan dealership and they couldn't get it to idle properly. They said I'd need to replace the throttle bodies and the ecu probably costing more than the car is worth. So I had the idea of replacing the carbon I cleaned out with a thin layer of super glue and it's back to normal idle now. Bit rough but saved the car from the wreckers 🤣
    • After my last update, I went ahead with cleaning and restoring the entire fuel system. This included removing the tank and cleaning it with the Beyond Balistics solution, power washing it multiple times, drying it thoroughly, rinsing with IPA, drying again with heat gun and compressed air. Also, cleaning out the lines, fuel rail, and replacing the fuel pump with an OEM-style one. During the cleaning process, I replaced several hoses - including the breather hose on the fuel tank, which turned out to be the cause of the earlier fuel leak. This is what the old fuel filter looked like: Fuel tank before cleaning: Dirty Fuel Tank.mp4   Fuel tank after cleaning (some staining remains): Clean Fuel Tank.mp4 Both the OEM 270cc and new DeatschWerks 550cc injectors were cleaned professionally by a shop. Before reassembling everything, I tested the fuel flow by running the pump output into a container at the fuel filter location - flow looked good. I then fitted the new fuel filter and reassembled the rest of the system. Fuel Flow Test.mp4 Test 1 - 550cc injectors Ran the new fuel pump with its supplied diagonal strainer (different from OEM’s flat strainer) and my 550cc injectors using the same resized-injector map I had successfully used before. At first, it idled roughly and stalled when I applied throttle. Checked the spark plugs and found that they were fouled with carbon (likely from the earlier overly rich running when the injectors were clogged). After cleaning the plugs, the car started fine. However, it would only idle for 30–60 seconds before stalling, and while driving it would feel like a “fuel cut” after a few seconds - though it wouldn’t fully stall. Test 2 – Strainer swap Suspecting the diagonal strainer might not be reaching the tank bottom, I swapped it for the original flat strainer and filled the tank with ~45L of fuel. The issue persisted exactly the same. Test 3 – OEM injectors To eliminate tuning variables, I reinstalled the OEM 270cc injectors and reverted to the original map. Cleaned the spark plugs again just in-case. The stalling and “fuel cut” still remained.   At this stage, I suspect an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, caused during the cleaning process. This has led me to look into getting Frenchy’s fuel hanger and replacing the unit entirely. TL;DR: Cleaned and restored the fuel system (tank, lines, rail, pump). Tested 550cc injectors with the same resized-injector map as before, but the car stalls at idle and experiences what feels like “fuel cut” after a few seconds of driving. Swapped back to OEM injectors with original map to rule out tuning, but the issue persists. Now suspecting an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, possibly cause by the cleaning process.
