Heading home from night out in city

See a taxi and ask him if he'll take me home for $60 straight up...pretty reasonable fare as only half an hour drive

*Indian accent* mate I think you better call an Uber or something we can't work for that

Fine man, seeya

Wait 10 mins for Uber and it's a $52 fare

Enjoy your rapidly depreciating taxi licence, dick

Uber guy, also Indian, rocks up in a clean Civic Type R...very personable and smart dude...talk our heads off about cars. Used to have a 34R (no security guard), now has a 35R and huge property in Bentleigh. Rajab knows why he's driving Uber at 4am...? Haven't had a bad one yet.

So are taxis getting pushed out of the transport market by Uber peeps who don't really need the cash that badly, or are their services and standards obsolete and too low? Mix of both?

Most uber drivers are ex taxi drivers... Taxis suck dick in general, have for a long time, only now they actually have some competition and they're not happy about it.

Uber surcharges are a crock of shit when in effect though... My normal Saturday night uber ride is around $35-40, but paid $104 for the same trip one morning... No traffic or anything like that, just a 2.4x surcharge... Yes I was informed before booking and accepted it, still horse shit though

Uber also don't allow their drivers to talk on the phone while on a fare... Not sure if the app actually stops their phone ringing while they're on a fare, but they never speak on it or message anyone etc... I've almost died in a few taxis while the drivers were on calls the entire fare.

In summary, f**k taxis. They got complacent due to a total monopoly on the industry, let their standards go to shit, if they were ever anywhere but shit, refused fares that they didn't think were worth their time and had woeful customer service all along

Tl:dr f**k taxis

This surcharge garbage came up on Saturday night. I've been reading things about the drivers banding together to trick the system and go off the grid to activate the surge. Not sure of the truth to it, but when I first ordered an uber it quoted me $55, then as it was on its way, for no reason on my part the request was cancelled. I tried to request another and it tells me there's a 2-2.5x surge charge now.  Keeps fluctuating between that and 1.5. I fk that off for 10 minutes and try again, then it finally gives me a $55 estimate again and I got my driver.

In short, f**k taxis.

Only negative experiences I've had with uber apart from the monster surcharge, ordered one from a mates place, got accepted by a driver, few minutes later it tells me I'm on my way... Pretty sure I was still standing around in my mates place so I cancel it and book another... Same driver gets the job and once again, I'm on my way to my destination, apparently. Called the kunt to ask the nigga if we gon have a prolem, says all good bro, I dispute that on the contrary, things were in fact, not all good, breh. Cancelled again and booked another, which went as it should... Then I see two emails charging me a cancellation fee for the other two... $6 a pop... Emailed uber and they credited me..

Another time a mate dropped $50 in the uber and realised as it drove off... Tried all the uber resolution channels but he never got it back... But as it was not my fiddy, it's not my prolem

    • Yeh I think i'll message an old contact i had for ages that manages his own tyre shop now.. n tell him what i want n work with him before ordering..  Got this 17x9 +30 Driftteks on 245/45/17 PSR Drag Radials on the rear.. They fit well - for your reference in future - Rear guards  have been lipped in & minimal to non flaring of the rear Gaurds.
    • If only it were that easy! I also needed to remove seats, shocks, brake calipers, send my car through a fence, and use measuring and ended up guessing because I didn't remove seats, shocks and brake calipers. It can be hard sometimes Can be a little more complex than 'just measure' if you want to truly measure the entire wheel through all of it's suspension travel. But if you aren't going for every last mm then yeah, you can check the space you currently have and guesstimate.
    • If you own a car, and it has wheels on it, and you know the offset of those wheels, and you have a measuring device, you have everything you need to work out if other wheels will fit.
    • Will this fit? but they are staggered set - RAYS 57DR SEMI GLOSS BLACK 18x8.5 +37 | 18x9.5 +38 5-114.3 STAGGERED SET   or If no go could just get a set 4's wheels of 18x8.5 +37 5-114.3 - would i run 8.5's 235s up front n 245's at the back if I do?   Thanks.
    • Put a clamp on your return line. I have a feeling it's sucking air, and introducing bubbles to your fuel. With a lot of fuel, less problematic. I'd honestly be redoing all the lines in the tank and clamps on everything.   Also, you've given two different answers to the same question: Asked if being followed by the police you could get down to use the whole tank, you said yes you could, so long as you keep off boost. However, you then followed this up that free revving, it would also cause the issues. I'm doubting free revving is enough to make any noticeable boost on what is likely a decent sized turbo.   So now I have to ask, can you actually drive it lightly and use all the fuel, or does it break up even free revving? Also, have you put a fuel pressure gauge on it? Can you hear the pump change noise at all when you're having this issue?
