Yes that's pretty shit, Optus should be able to provide you 30mbps down 1 mbps up pretty easily - worth a phone call

30 down 1 up is considered 'standard' cable speed and 100 down 2 up is considered 'ultiamte' cable speed which you'll need to pay extra for but still possible on cable.

For reference my Telstra cable gets about 30-35 down and 1 up

Leeroy has a special situation where he has reasons for the shitty-er cable speed I'm sure :D

Edit: Basically what Simon said

Well I have one of those Motorola Surfboard modems they supplied us with 6+ years ago, but they refuse to even chip in money to upgrade it now even though the service is not what we're paying for. They want $200+ for the modem plus an installation fee to upgrade. This was after two phone calls and a bit of a raised voice.

ISP's can't just be gifting out modems with no cause. Either sign up to a new contract (which may only be applicable to new customers) or there is a connection/speed fault caused by the modem.

Well they can because phone companies give rewards based on staying with the company for a period of time, usually by waving different costs or adding in extra value to their existing plans.

put some more pressure on them, ive got a spare telstra modem you could have which is better than that but you're with optus.

call around for a better deal and make em do better themselves or leave. mate you'll get easily better speeds elsewhere and prob more data with new modem too.

Only reason why we haven't looked elsewhere is because it's bundled with Foxtel and I believe phone line

Problem with modems is that they have to buy them from suppliers & they need to link them back to the reason for supplying them onto you. If there isn't a valid reason, be it a new contract deal or a fault replacement, the operator on the phone can't do much.

meh any of them can do that, and can port phone numbers across if you need it.

just call optus and tell them your speed is shit and not 30mbps and to fix your shit

So they stand to lose 3 times as much shit if you leave...........

No one is going to cancel their internet contract because they want a new modem.

A new modem serves no purpose if there is no fault with the old. Hence why they will only replace if there is a fault.

    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
    • Any going to watch World Time Attack at SMSP this year?
    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
