how did they build a 6L V8 with

" 145 hp (108 kW) at 3600 rpm and torque to 270 lbf·ft (370 N·m) at 2000 rpm "

its funny because america's V8's had barely changed since the 40's. and when they went to alloy heads and had to change due to oil crisis, all their new motors went to shit. pretty funny really.

FWD V8? i wouldnt say no haha but when would that ever be a good idea?

the fleetwood pictured was one of the last RWD

but really when you only have 100 kw, though a old 3 speed auto so prob 60 kw at the wheels, and around 100 kg sitting on top,  torque steer would never be a problem.

Not that they were blisteringly fast cars by any stretch, but half of it is that they didn't rev out far or need to for that matter. Those V8s still pull nicely with their torque for the first few thousand rpm. The aftermarket / drag scene in the states was as fast as ever / still breaking records as far as I know, it's just factory vehicles that went down on power in Eder to meet "stringent" new emissions laws etc. There was also the rise of small displacement engines which probably took away development from the V8s combined with low sales.

We did a similar thing here with our 308 VL vs the RB30 and the 304 vs Buick 3800 motors. The V8s were still a tad quicker everywhere in spite of similar power.

tl;dr the yanks aren't that shit at building engines

Given I don't post anything but opinions, all this says is that my opinions are popular even if it's amongst a niche lol

holden 5L V8 from same year (WB statesman)

  • Power: 126kw at 4400rpm
  • Torque: 361Nm at 2800rpm

so more than 10% more power for 16% less capacity

(the HDT Magnum having 188kw for the same 5l)

or Ford had  149 hp (111 kW) and 325 N·m (240 ft·lb)  for the 4.1 straight 6.

add to that 200kg weight advantage..

translation the yanks should have talked to the Aussies....

    • Yeh I think i'll message an old contact i had for ages that manages his own tyre shop now.. n tell him what i want n work with him before ordering..  Got this 17x9 +30 Driftteks on 245/45/17 PSR Drag Radials on the rear.. They fit well - for your reference in future - Rear guards  have been lipped in & minimal to non flaring of the rear Gaurds.
    • If only it were that easy! I also needed to remove seats, shocks, brake calipers, send my car through a fence, and use measuring and ended up guessing because I didn't remove seats, shocks and brake calipers. It can be hard sometimes Can be a little more complex than 'just measure' if you want to truly measure the entire wheel through all of it's suspension travel. But if you aren't going for every last mm then yeah, you can check the space you currently have and guesstimate.
    • If you own a car, and it has wheels on it, and you know the offset of those wheels, and you have a measuring device, you have everything you need to work out if other wheels will fit.
    • Will this fit? but they are staggered set - RAYS 57DR SEMI GLOSS BLACK 18x8.5 +37 | 18x9.5 +38 5-114.3 STAGGERED SET   or If no go could just get a set 4's wheels of 18x8.5 +37 5-114.3 - would i run 8.5's 235s up front n 245's at the back if I do?   Thanks.
    • Put a clamp on your return line. I have a feeling it's sucking air, and introducing bubbles to your fuel. With a lot of fuel, less problematic. I'd honestly be redoing all the lines in the tank and clamps on everything.   Also, you've given two different answers to the same question: Asked if being followed by the police you could get down to use the whole tank, you said yes you could, so long as you keep off boost. However, you then followed this up that free revving, it would also cause the issues. I'm doubting free revving is enough to make any noticeable boost on what is likely a decent sized turbo.   So now I have to ask, can you actually drive it lightly and use all the fuel, or does it break up even free revving? Also, have you put a fuel pressure gauge on it? Can you hear the pump change noise at all when you're having this issue?
