an internal communication fcuk up on tyres had nothing to do with pressure from merc.

he initial explanation from Red Bull was that it was a miscommunication between the race engineers and the crew.

“Unfortunately, a lot of misunderstanding and not the right communication,” Red Bull’s motorsport adviser Helmut Marko said immediately after the race.

“We will investigate and find out (what happened), but it was a human mistake. I feel really sorry (for Ricciardo). All we can do is apologise to him.”

The miscommunication boiled down to the team’s uncertainty over what tyres to use for the run home.

They had three compounds to choose from: Soft, Supersoft, or Ultrasoft.

The Ultrasofts were out; Red Bull’s engineers didn’t believe the new purple-sidewalled tyres would make it the 46 laps to the end.

Engineers were torn between the Soft and Supersoft. Initially, they went with a brand new set of Softs — the harder of the two choices — and instructed the mechanics to get those ready.

At the last second they changed their minds. Supersofts

what do you reckon caused that last minute change of mind if it wasn't Hamilton/Mercedes being so close and choosing the Ultrasoft???

What changed their minds? Who knows. Perez was outpacing them on softs and Hamilton on ultrasofts in the end - so maybe they got the worst of all options from a compound selection that didn't make much of a difference.

Sounds like they just plain couldn't decide and screwed it up because the tyres weren't at hand.

Perhaps Dan is going to have to start making 'suggestions' on race strategy and tyres, sounds like his engineer needs to look for another job if there is a lack of driver communication too. He needs to stay with RB though, a night on the piss should help calm his disappointment, obviously gutted.

Horner said the decision to go for super-softs instead of softs was made after Mercedes surprised Red Bull by opting for the ultra-soft tyre.

There you go. Seemed reasonably obvious. Everyone was surprised at Mercedes decision to use the UltraSofts and wondering what they were up to. Next minute there's a mix up with tyres in the Red bull garage... simple case of 2+2 I would have thought = caught off guard by Mercedes.

Wouldn't say it was pressure, they had a 13 second pitstop, so an extra 10 seconds there, and Dan came out 1 second behind. In other words, they had a lead of 8 seconds or so, so Dan must have really, really been tearing ass on the lap after Hamilton went in 8 second lead isn't that much pressure

Dan was quicker for the majority of the dry phase of the race anyway until he seemed to give up a few laps from the end

Given the apparent pace of the new spec Renault engine combined with the RBR chassis and aero, I think Dan would have passed him if not for Monaco being Monaco.

I genuinely feel sorry for him, to lose a race like Monaco because of a stuff up outside his control, especially with how well he drove all weekend would be completely gutting

    • All my Polish car culture insight comes from watching Nightride. So I half expect this to get 1UZ swapped eventually?! Are you going to drive it in winter? I'm always curious how ATTESA would hold up in the snow. There isn't that much opportunity to try it in Australia.
    • My steering lock unit on my Infiniti G37 has failed. The car is a local 2012 Infiniti G37 (Q60 ) I need to replace the unit My local mechanic said i need to buy a complete steering wheel assembly. Does anybody no any mechanics in Gold Coast or Brisbane who can fix this issue or where i can buy just the Steering lock control unit. Thanks
    • thanks, will conduct myself accordingly. i unfortunately put about 150 miles on the car before reading this thread again, however no PS issues, and definitely no turbo issues. it spools normally and still feels fast to me, probably because my previous car was an N/A auto sedan...gonna go fix the PS vacuum line though lol. safe to say, got what i came to this thread for. thanks
    • Agreed, I've never seen a 260RS specific manual. As GTSBoy said it will mostly be stagea other than the engine loom https://www.hgeconsulting.com.au/stageaservicemanual.pdf
    • You'lll likely have to make do with R33 GTR for engine/tranny stuff, and Stagea for the body. I don't know that there's even been an actual diagram seen in the wild.
