I was reading about a guy in the states who did a 'LCI conversion' to his E90 by sticking red tinting on his tail lights. While this is in no means an 'LCI conversion' I thought it looked so much nicer than the clear reverse lights so I bought some pre-cut tint from the states and put it on today. Its not perfect with some tiny air bubbles but I'm hoping that by leaving them in the sun they might go away, I think it looks so much better as the tail lights are, for me, the weakest design link on this car.

Um but do they glow red when you are going backwards? Would be illegal and confusing.

  • 4 months later...

I just realised how long its been since I updated this.

So, I'll add what I've done since March.

Oh, also, my VVT motor is leaking oil into the spark plug holes #3 & #4. Its not much of a leak but its causing the odd miss which is irritating me. Been quoted $800 but it looks pretty straight forward and might give it a go myself.

Also, during my must-keep-warranty 6 month oil change my intake pipe was noticed to be not entirely attached allowing unmetered air into the engine. This was fixed which made the car a little more responsive.

I changed my angel eye bulbs to LED's. I purposefully didn't get stupidly overpowered ones as I didn't want the angel eyes to be like little suns, I just wanted them whiter than the halogens and slightly more noticable.

Here's drivers side done, but not passenger. Fairly different, passenger doesn't even appear on.

Both done in the daylight.

Here they are at night. Not bright enough to light anything up, which was the desired effect.

I need to get pics of my interior changes...

But, I totally had enough of my seats. They were horribly uncomfortable and like sitting on a bench.

I got some absolutely mint M-Sport seats. They are soft and the leather is gorgeous. Lots of left and right thigh support and an extended thigh base at the front. They also have air-filled bolsters though if you are larger than the average 3 year old you may need to leave them empty as they get seriously tight.

I also picked up a BMW Individual steering wheel! Its so fricken cool though a little banged up. I'm trying to bring it back to its former glory but its already so much nicer to drive with than the bus wheel that was in it before.

One thing I noticed on the car the first time I saw it was the terrible state of the window seal trims. The front windscreen is totally missing and the rear just looked horrible.

Here's how it looked and it was killing me every time I looked at the back of the car.

The other issue was that somebody had glued these pieces on which was a real mess.

Anyway, once they were all off I gave the glass and the car underneath a good clean and then a spray with silicon to assist in getting the new trims on.

End result is so nice. Its one of those changes you make that you keep noticing every time you look at the car. Seriously satisfying, its been eating at me since I bought it.

Some black glue still on the paint to this day, need to hit it with some bug and tar remover.

Passenger side isn't perfect but no amount of manipulation would fix it. I just left it, as its not glued in I might try to fix another time.20180721_150442.jpg

My drivers side tail light has always been cracked. I picked up a replacement and its another satisfying fix. Its so much cleaner than the other side though I'm now considering buying its pair to make both sides nice and clean.

Anybody know how to get this off? Its so irritating and no amount of scrubbing even makes a dent.

    • Hi GTSBoy, Excuse my ignorance but what does a "Bad" Knee point mean ?
    • HFM BM57 has a "bad" knee point, IIRC. It's not the same thing as the later R chassis MC.
    • The ATTESSA is functionally identical to R34; there were a bunch of JDM models that continued ATTESSA including Fuga/Q70, Skyline/Q50, Cima etc as an option. All with Auto only and I think mostly for snow regions. AFAIK there were no AWD VR30DDTT sold in Australia - it is on my to do list to check regs for racing a LHD car in Targa/ATR/AASA/CAMS events because if I can get the auto to work it would be interesting to run a 4wd car The Ecuteck TCM tuning is the same model as their ECU tuning, they already have it for R35 and Dose's favourite, BMW. You buy "points" to allow your computer to be tuned, buy either a bluetooth (phone app) or bluetooth+USB+Key (phone and PC) dongle, and pay for a tune that will be locked to your tuner ( ). You can also access the tuning software yourself but 1. it is mega expensive and 2. these computers have a billion parameters that intersect, so how could you ever spend enough time on it to get a decent result.
    • Or, is it a case of what it is like owning an R series Skyline? NFI what the previous owner has done or fiddled with... Ha ha ha After reading through this thread, I went on a bit of a research about the Q50/Q60. Now I'm quite intrigued by them! Is the AWD in them more like a WRX where it's always AWD, or is it more like the ATTESSA in the GTRs? By the sound of this TCU tuning, this sounds like a case of someone has made some real software for it, and you just need the right piece of hardware, and then you license that specific vehicle/TCU. Or is this a case of the software will be really expensive so only a few tuners have it, and you still have to pay a license per vehicle?
    • By popular demand.. it was a coil. Got my hands on 1 new OEM coil, replaced with the one that made the less noise difference when I unplugged it while the car was running and started the car up. No stutter and the engine light was gone. I guess I’ll buy the other 5 they have lol
