Hey, about to send the car in for a tune within the next week or 2, and interested in what you guys think, number wise, what it could be capable of making in its current setup so I will list off the mods for you, can assume things not listed to be stock.

98 R33 GTST rb25det

Apexi power fc + hand controller

exedy heavy duty clutch 

exedy lightened flywheel

forward facing plenum

race works fuel rail

turbosmart fpr 800 fuel regulator

Denso 550cc injectors 

walbro 255 fuel pump

yellow jacket coil packs

NGK BCPR7ES spark plugs (0.8mm)

exhaust system 3 inch, hi flow cat

front mount intercooler

op6 turbo (r34 GTT turbo) still low mount (looking to run 12 psi, or more, let me know what you think)

 

also if you want to throw in recommendations for what you would do with the car next would be mint for fresh ideas. No pun intended.

update info

I'm going to start by guessing there's a 90% chance the yellow jacket coil packs will give out on the dyno and final tune deferred until replaced with splitfires, OEM or LS/Yaris/etc Conversion.

may need more detail though, target boost? boost controlled with? is it an r34 NEO or r33 rb25 or possibly even an rb20? how complete is the highflow exhaust? dump back? diameter? cat?

Nothing in that list is going to cause a power increase unless the Neo turbo is going on to an older 25 or onto a 20.  On a 25, the power added will be small.  On a 20, it will be good for a bit more.

My Neo, with essentially that complete list above (except the things that are useless, like the plenum and the big injectors) makes 191 believable rwkW on 12 psi.

Around 190 rwkw sounds about right. If i was you, id send that turbo to hypergear and get it highflowed (around $900) before your tune. Will then make around 260rwkw and you wont be paying for a 2nd tune after your sick of 190kw.

 

You may also want to gap the plugs down to around .65 to help those yellow jackets alive.

 

Later on you could put bigger injectors in and tune for e85 and make over 300rwkw.

 

 

Recommendations on what to do next depend on how much money you have and whether you want to go fast in a straight line or do other things safely.

Because you already have injectors and a fuel pump, following the above advice from admS15 is a good idea.  You will need to upgrade the airflow meter first though.

The first best thing is sticky tyres.  AD08R, RS3 or 4, KU36, or any of a bunch of others.

Everything else depends on the state of health of suspension and subframe bushes and so on.  You can spend 2x what the car is worth in about 15 minutes if you really want to.

Dude, my whole build thread is about doing things the wrong way (and I'm still correcting my faults) - so yeah, definitely do it right!

As mentioned, get your turbo High Flowed. I personally have got a Hypergear G3 profile on a 21U turbo, it picks up pretty quick, has no problems on 19psi and I'm not even at my final tune. For the record, I made 230rwkw on this turbo @ 14psi (couldn't hold boost at the time due to wastegate). If you're playing the long game, you can high flow your OP6 housing for more future power, or as ADM said, go 21U for quicker response. Not sure on your boost control plan?

As for the AFM, don't make my mistake and buy a cheapie. Get a genuine Bosch Z32 unit. Will cost $250-$320.

Ditch the Yellow Jackets. If you absolutely can't spend the money on Splitfires, then gap plugs down as mentioned.

Also ensure you've completed the relay mod on your fuel pump so you get full voltage and full juice.

If I was in your shoes right now, I'd be going:

  • High Flow Turbo
  • Decent EBC
  • Z32 AFM
  • Splitfires
  • Relay Mod

For approx $1800-$2200 in parts you'd then achieve 240-260rwkw.

    • When you crank your car, and hit it with a timing light, can you see a steady crank timing?
    • Oh, forgot to add, A few months ago I was getting mixture codes and the car was using crap loads of fuel. You could smell the unburned fuel in the exhaust, it was crazy strong. Economy was over 17.5 l/100 and usually around 19. I smoked the engine and found a leaky CCV hose which I replaced and then I replaced my two pre cat O2 sensors, I also replaced the MAF. This fixed my mixture codes and improved my exonomy but I'm still 14 - 15 l/100 when pottering about town so something is still amiss. Throttle response is much better and it has more pep but I'd like to know why it's still so thirsty (and I'm hoping that whatever it is gives me a bit more poke).    
    • Car is on factory injectors/z32 maf/ q45 throttle body/ z32 ecu with nistune 
    • Hello all, currently finishing up a rb25 swap into my s14. Having issues with starting, car has spark (confirmed by pulling a plug and watching it spark), has fuel(confirmed by checking pulse/voltage at injectors all spark plugs are soaked in fuel). Car cranks over and pops into the exhaust with a heavy fuel smell but no attempt to start or run, I have torn the timing cover off and triple confirmed timing, turned the CAS in multiple spots both directions, attempted to start with coolant temp and maf unplugged, checked my fuel lines and made sure they weren’t backwards, checked voltage at cas/injectors/coilpacks, made sure all the grounds in the harness are connected and added a few grounding straps (1 from chassis to block, 1 from chassis to head, and 1 from chassis to igniter chip) I am getting stumped here. As a last ditch effort I made a full grounding harness tonight that’s going to run from the battery and add an extra ground from the battery onto the coil pack harness/igniter chip/ intake manifold/ Wiring specialties harness ground/ and alternator. I’m hoping maybe the grounding harness will fix it here but posting here to see if anyone has any other ideas on what else I can check. My fuel pressure is unknown right gauge will be here tomorrow.  IMG_3206.mov
    • yeah I was shocked when I checked my spare OEM on and as below that's how they come from Nissan. (side interesting note new NEO gearbox and replacement park lack the brass bush on the tips and its just all alloy) unsure about damage to the box currently back at 1110 to be pulled down/inspected and selector fork replaced as he built it previously and given the never before seen failure on his billet forks he is replacing it under warranty. He said he has used always OEM the keyway tab without issue for years so it could be an unlucky coincidence. I did talk to him about the sharp corners and stress concentration too. Re: hard shifts i got 7+ years out of the OEM one and the fork itself failed not the keyway. so could be bad luck as I said or an age thing + heat cycles in box and during fabrication of billet?
