Hi guys

have done some serious work to my engine atm:

2.9L stoker kit

Neo ultimate head

Tomei 260 camshafts

Yellow jacket coil pack

otaku garage forward facing intake plenuim with a 90mm throttle body

and I’m not even on my L plates yet

thats why I’m doing all this work so when I get my p’s I can do an actual gtt turbo not a plus t setup

so if anyone has suggestions on what I’m doing and what I could do better please let me know

but back to my main question

can you convert the internals of a gt gearbox to a gtt

ive heard there the same just internally different but want to be sure

and should I be upgrading diff and drive shaft

thanks jack

No. The NA gearbox is physically much smaller. Like half the size.

You don't need to upgrade either the diff or driveshafts. Not for strength reasons anyway, as the diff is the same strength as the turbo item and the axles are nearly as good. But.....you will want an LSD centre on a turbo.

Note that I said driveshafts. You said driveshaft, and it is not clear whether you meant the tailshaft or the axles. Not that it matters, as both are strong enough.

It's also not clear what the stroker kit and other parts are fitted to. The NA engine? A turbo engine in the shed? If you've done it to the NA, complete waste of time. If you've done it to the turbo, well, the yellowjackets are not a good choice, but beyond that, everything else is OK, if largely a waste of money.

You will need brakes. And, are you sure that you will be allowed to drive a turbo on your P's?

Hi mate

yeah meant driveshafts sorry typo

and the n/a block is exactly the same as the turbo

And do you know what ignition coils I should run

im using the n/a block as it’s the same as a det but am putting det head on top

perfect example of why not to fit that style of plenum. lost 1000rpm of response and a bucket load of power. Green is factory plenum, the others are a short runner style plenum. Bin the yellow jacket coils and get a PRP r35 coil kit.

Ok thanks

just wish the stock didn’t go over the valve covers

looks ugly and is really inconvenient when working on your engine

and do r35 coils stick out of cover?

It's really not hard at all to remove the crossover pipe as required, which is not often.

Get split fires if you want it to all fit factory. You will have trouble with yellow jackets

But look at the peak gain! And how much cleaner the engine bay looks.

I don't like the look of most of those plenums and fitting the new plazmaman ones with engine in is a pain with the water hose/pipe underneath.

No its NOT mate, no piston oilers for a start, and past experience of these blocks found that the turbo oil supply gallery has not been drilled either, or the turbo oil drain hole as well.

Ok lol

lucky i haven’t installed anything yet

does anyone know if you can run the det neo engine without the turbo using parts of a device engine?

And just so everyone knows I’m not dumb it’s just I made a sau acct less than a day ago so am still learning

and robbo I thought you meant put r35 coils in a rb

that’s why I got confused

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
