Got the car done mechanically and on to the dyno today for run in.
A few small oil leaks but that was only issues. Happy with result, took it for a quick test drive around the block and its comes on hard.

Got a long list of stuff to do between now and next Sunday before heading down south. Got to be at MCA on the 16th for new Red Series coilovers & cornerweight/alignment then off to Morgan Park for a test day on the 18th.
Biggest jobs will be new ducting from front bar and pulling motor to fix the leaks. Will make a start on it all tomorrow with a few small things.

Great start!

Typical SR torque/power flies straight up, nearly perpendicular to the X axis lol.

Running an intake cam gear? Advance it a bit to get more low down and make that torque ramp a bit more linear.

No, standard cams & gears atm. See how I go on e85, it was making 10kw every degree of timing but wait til after track day to turn it up on e85

So noticed didn't have that much oil pressure at load 35-45psi and was getting low when oil was hot (5-6psi). Pulled pump off cleaned it and shimmed it, only a small change in pressure 😪
Got a plan to sort it as need it ready for Japnats at QR  23rd April.

Finished up the ducting and a few small bits today, its not perfect but will do.

Loaded up and ready to start the move to Ipswich tomorrow

No definitely pump as only thing I didn't replace and shimming helped a bit.

Engines out again and new oil pump ordered. Will check mains while apart for any damage.

I've had my entry for Mt Morgan Hill climb accepted so need this sorted and do testing with new suspension before it.

Engine in with new oil pump was a little bit better but still below factory specs. Don't want to risk stuffing a block and crank for the sake of it.
Currently got EOI on the car as I have a new chassis that is already caged and suspension setup that I am starting assembly once shed is up.

Also had a massive accident saturday at Lakeside Raceway and had my Getz written off so no racing for a while.

well, I hope you are OK (other than the wallet)....nothing puts racing on hold like repair bills

yeah mate all good just a bit of neck pain but safety gear did its job.
Unfortunately no repair for the car as its bent and twisted both rails, kinked firewall and motor is gone.

Back into this car now to get ready for a rescheduled Mt Morgan Goldrush Hill climb.

First hit of the key and started straight up. oil pressure around 36-40 psi 😅

Engine coming out again since rebuild, this is the third time...

Found the low oil pressure issue. 2 spun rod bearings.... this did run in on dyno and a few street runs, did not even knock
I reckon I stuffed up when assembling. I'm sticking to wiring & ecu setup from now on 😅

Bought this to go into a new car but I want to go racing so will be swapping all the manifolds and bits over, hoping to have it in by Friday night. Going to redo a few oil lines while there too.

Run down on the new motor:
sr20
CP piston 86.5mm
spool rods
balanced & grub screwed crank
ported head
kelford cams 188a and Valve springs
ross balancer
5-0 ignite trigger kit

Pretty much copy of old engine plus cams and built by a shop. Need to build a tool to pressurize oil system to 70psi so can have warranty. Got an old nitrogen bottle, fittings & reg that I'll mcgyver together.

Also got a new set of MCA reds to go in so should have all the good gear to be a reliable all rounder again.

Was also going to have a go at dirt rally navigating. Spent a few weeks sorting the car out but the Rally Queensland got rained out so will have to wait and see what event will be able to do next. Took the cars for a run through town for a bit of fun.

Back into this today as had some motivation.
Spent the day swapping intake & exhaust stuff over. Previous owner of the new motor must have used a rattle gun everything as took a bit of effort to remove water inlet/outlet and fittings in the block.
As usual with old nissan stuff one of the last intake manifold threads decided to not exist anymore so add that to the list to fix in a week when working on it again.

Bought a electric pump to prime the new system and need a few fittings to finish new oil lines.

And as we were disassembling the old motor my mate was looking at the intake ports and found a nice crack in cyl 3 port 😪
Can just see the crack in the top so I've either gone to aggressive with the port or the new guide was sent a bit too hard

So that head is toast and need a new plan for my s15 as this motor was going to be rebuilt to go in that.

Mates back from shift next wednesday and plan is to have it in and started friday hopefully.

How's the shed progress?

yep but lesson learned.

Shed progress has small things happening but looking like its not going exactly where we planned, still no date as catching up on back log. At least have a concreter now

I didn't like how I had run the oil lines for the remote filter and cooler was in a bit of rush when i did it so while it's been apart fabbed a plate to move the filter and cut through the wheel tub. Came up nice and lots less hose was able to cut down the old line.

New motor is running, had a small issue with the trigger setup but got it sorted and fired up with really good oil pressure.

With motivation high decided to fit the new MCA Reds I bought back in February. These are nice, sets of different camber washers, new hardware and heights set. I had been swapping the coilovers between the 2 180sx for years. Looking forward to testing them out.

Now that its all back together will hopefully have dyno booked next week for run in and tune. May finally get on track with it this year 😅

    • What 1.5 way? There's no such thing really as a 1.5 way, just different ways of explaining 2 ways with different ramp rates. HOWEVER. In any driving in a straight line your 1.5 or 2 or 1.7 way should have no clunking at all. With the clutch fully depressed the diff should be silent (unless it's welded but I'm assuming it's not). Something aint right here.
    • Clutch is a spec brand, new clutch system,( PP, flywheel, friction disc, etc. pull type) installed 100 miles ago, with no problems.
    • looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drove beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?
