These are marketed for shops over here in North America. They're called "Bag in a box" oil. 

It's not very popular as most shops just stick to barrels and metered oil guns. I've never seen these used or sold for at home use, although the one in the video does seem a tad smaller.

Yeah, but I reckon the number (fraction?) of oil containers that actually get recycled would be pretty small. They are, after all, at least contaminated with clean oil, more likely contaminated with dirty oil. And if they go to an oil recycling depot of some sort to be emptied into the big tanks....I'd put coin on the probability that they just get pitched into the bin at that point. Even though we're talking about a "recycling facility".... have you seen the sort of oiks that work in places like that? Unlikely to be thinking about the prospect of recycling the bottles too.

These are sold all the time at Walmart and like others have said the angle is "more eco friendly". It is slightly cheaper. Oil-contaminated plastics cannot be recycled so less of it is better, but you need a whole bunch of extra stuff to handle this. You need probably one clean 5 quart oil jug you set aside to use as an intermediate holding tank. You need your local hazmat to return your oil catch pan AND you need to make sure whatever oil catch pan you use can hold engine oil without any risk of leaking during transport. Or you have dedicated used engine oil containers that your local curbside recycling will drain and return. Personally I have stuck to just buying 5 quart bottles because this is just too much mess to be worth the hassle.

I think I just looked at the box and the tap and started thinking of how much cleaner my changes could be. 🤩

I mean, I could always just use a funnel...

I'll stick with the plastic containers, as stated by others, as it's where the old oil goes, I then just drop them off at SuperCheap, who apparently recycle it, or something....

I believe this makes Captain Planet not so angry with me for owning a infernal combustion engine, although he is still pretty pissed at me for using old engine oil to stabilise dirt pads in old workshop and factory yard hard stands in the pre 1980's

There was nothing better than some old engine oil to strengthen and waterproof a dirt/gravel patch pad back then, and the rainbows that flowed off the pad and down the storm water drains when it rained was very pretty looking, I believe that practice is frowned upon nowadays 🤔

I buy oil buy the 10L drum.

It's a square drum. Comes with a tap. Works the same way as above, but normally more economical to buy per litre.

 

However, you need an intermediate dirty oil drum for your first change, as chances are, your car doesn't need 10L in it.

The cruiser is great for using the drum. It from memory is 9.3L of oil to fill. And it gives no f**ks if you give it an extra 700ml, and bam, you've got an empty 10L drum ;)

 

Oh and then on top of that, I've normally got a 20L empty drum around that I tip used oil into from smaller dump outs if I do t have an empty 10L.

A few weeks back I dropped to the tip about 150L of used oil.

Have seen for sale, but not in person. 

From memory penrite use them, for sale through at least repco.

 

But, as discussed here, for the home person, a container to put the used oil back into is helpful. 

And for a work shop, they normally buy in larger quantities than these.

I'm guessing it's just cheaper to make and getting better profits for the company.

They are very clear that the box style is "Enviro+" as well as a green coloured box.  No information in the listing suggests what the actual green washing claim for dinosaur juice in a non-recyclable foil bag might be

Bring back oil in 1 quart glass pour bottles at the servo forecourt, is what I say.

      That is way more science than even I would use. I just eyeball it, not even accounting for the non-verticality of the tape measure when held on the lip and the centre at the same time. +/- 2mm is good enough for the girls I go out with.

      So, before putting them in I need to understand the stock ride height. This is how I measured it: First, check the diameter of the wheel's centre cap, it was 52mm. Then put a piece of masking tape approximately across the centre and measure 27mm (half) from at least 3 sides to get a reasonable idea of the centre of the wheel cap. Mark that with a horizontal line as one measuring point. Then, directly above the wheel on the guard, put another piece of masking tape in approximately the centre. Use a string line to find out the point on the guard above the centre of the wheel cap and mark that. Then it is simple, just a tape measure to check the distance from centre of the wheel to the centre of the guard. Final results where  LF: 381mm RF: 379mm LR: 401mm RR: 400mm Pretty even considering they are 120,000klm old factory springs, lets call that 380 front and 400 rear.

      So....knowing that I have a problem with power steering temps on track and another Wakefield day booked in next Friday, I've done the obvious thing They are very reasonably priced at $1650, considering they are a big monotube shock, double height adjustable (don't have to change pre-load to change ride height), one way adjustable damping and standard sized and customisable springs if you want something other than what comes with them. They come with 9kg/mm front and 4.5kg/mm front and I went with that as a starting point because I'll add adjustable sway bars too https://justjap.com/products/bc-racing-coilover-kit-ds-ds-infiniti-q50-v37-14-current#description Unfortunately they didn't come with rear strut tops so I've re-used the factory ones which was a bit of a pain. Also, the adjuster for the rear shock will be an absolute nightmare to get at, and while there are extensions in the kit I can't see any way you can actually attach or use them

      I also had 2 bulbs blow at once, years ago in the stagea. made for a fun drive home. The issue was the voltage regulator had failed in the alternator and it was giving 15+ volts. Really, I was lucky all that was fried were the headlight bulbs. So, I'd suggest you check the voltage across your battery terminals with the car running and warmed up. Yes, you will need a multimeter to do so, sorry.
