Anyone here seen these for sale?

I'm a car security gumby. Can you just pay an auto electrician to fit? Someone mentioned 3-4hrs work, which negates the saving if you can purchase one fitted for $510.

Any thoughts to share? Advice appreciated.

Saw those but that is not the BW10000-3. It's the BW10000-1. The BW10000-1 has only 2 immobilisers, no battery backup, no internal siren etc. It's a bit shit.

They sell for about 400 installed from Black Widow.

I got told by my installer brant wasnt that good and i think hes an authorised guy for them. He also does quik trak and some other stuff.. Can't remember what he recommended i think it was some black widow stuff or something.

Then again can't trust noone these days eh :P

wrxhoon on this forum found some 'ezitrack' stuff that does gps+gsm - sounds good but yeah... In my mind jury is still out as to what I should get.

Is there any truth to the statement that any security is really just a deterrent for hoons/joy riders - a 'professional' car thief will not be stopped?

You'd think that a pro would go and buy all the top gear from retailers and then work out how to get around it?...

Yeah cowie that is true. I think there is a rule of thumb that goes something like: "every hour spent installing the alarm equates to 10 minutes to crack" so if your alarm can be installed in 2 hours, 20 mins to crack, 4 hours? 40 mins and so on.

CC: He's not telling the whole truth I don't think because last I check Brant don't have autorised installers, their own personnel install their systems on the spot. Unless you meant he worked for brant...

Time to revive a thread: no real prizes for guessing why :(

I am currently looking at a Brant nemisis for two reasons: 1) the insurance companies seem to love them 2) they currently have some October specials on.

I have heard both good and bad things about Brant: its hard to know which way to go. I do have some hesitations:

* Obviously they cost more than just about anyone else.

* They still haven't released their tracking unit addon.

* So much comes down to the installer: you obviously don't get to choose with Brant.

* Their remote looks cheap (but this is negated by the special which includes a different remote).

What are others' thoughts? What did people end up getting?

Having a brant won't save you any insurance money over another 3point immobilising alarm that is approved, so it doesn't matter if ins. companies 'love' them or not. I reckon even their 'design' remote looks crap, and too big for my liking, but that's a personal opinion. I suggest have a look at the ones sewid pointed out further up the thread, and the flashpoint as well.

lwells: dont fit a nemesis. I dont have anything personal against them it's just that the only benefit is the extra immobilisers. I have had a brant before and i would not get one again. I have a different brand alarm installed on the GTR now - it cost less and is twice as good as my brant was. Go figure.

Insurance companies don't give two shits what alarm you have as long as it has 3 immobilisers/is standards approved.

Fit any alarm with 3 immobilisers that is standards certified then fit a tracker (contact wrxhoon on these forums as his son is an engineer and works on them for a living). The tracker + alarm fitted should cost in the order of 1200 - 1700 depending on what you get and who installs it.

Btw, the tracker i'm refering to does not have ongoing monthly fees and does not rely on some proprietory network like quiktrack. It uses the GSM network and a GPS receiver.

sewid / mmmgtir: I spoke to Famous Insurance some time ago and asked what alarms they prefer and they said (direct quote) "we love Brant".

Now admittedly Famous is a little different to most insurers: they seem to take much more interest in how a client sounds over the phone than others (I guess you could call it a personal touch), but they did have the cheapest premium for my circumstances last I checked.

In regards to tracking, I remember wrxhoon from this thread. Personally I would likely go with a monitoring service anyway for the reasons I set out in that thread (ie. I want someone looking out for my car when I am asleep / mobile is off / etc). The question is, what is the best alarm to compliment the tracking unit :spank:

Brant got back to me on prices today: "Normal NEMESIS price is $ 990.00 and AA02A is $ 648.00."

Ever get that feeling that your not sure which way to jump? ;)

If you really are keen on Brant. Go the AA02A and get the Skylines club discount. You are in the club aren't you?

If not it's time to sign up because you will save $60 on the AA20A and the membership only costs $50 or so.

Fair enough. I still don't think that them loving brant will save you any money over another system. How do I know this? Cause I've been with Famous for 2 years, and as long as you have a 3 point standards approved immobiliser (and the certificate to go with it) then it's all good :) (FTR I have a flashpoint, and they told me it's the same discount no matter what system i got, as long as it met the above).

I still think the brant it a good system, from what I've seen, but I've never had one, and i do think their remotes look bodge.

Whatever you get it's not nearly as important as where you park it, and what insurance you have.

I am finally getting around to this (NRMA has been extremely slow to send out a policy so I haven't bothered till now as the covering note holds for another three months :) ).

I spoke to Allan Jong who seems like a very pleasant guy. I was expecting he would recommend a Flashpoint but in fact he was of the opinion that the Brant is better for a GT-R given its reputation with insurers.

Brant has yet another special on. Do two cars and get $200 off each install. Hmm.

Now to do some calling about tracking units.

Incidentally, why do all these imported cars NOT have immobilisers/alarm already? Are car thieves an Australian invention?? Hmmmmm. So many high-performance/expensive cars, and none of them have any security devices?

    • ok so if i wanted to go 18's i would go for 8's  in front 30+ or 32+ off set at front and the back 9 would be ok? what offset should i aim for.. then can i do some  hunting for wheel rim choices..    If i get this - will this fit all around: Size: 18 x 8.5 +37 - n what tyres size tyre should i get for front n back?  
    • Absolute f*cking nightmare. I had to take breaks constantly, and I was always pissed off when I got home. The line split in Italy on day 2 (we drove from the Netherlands), lol. Driving any narrow European town was... well, sh*t.   Appreciate it man. Here, I'll just drop a favourite from the load I took on Saturday.   I'll update here when things happen with the car, the thing is, with stock power and almost everything chassis-wise taken care of, there really are no problems. 268,000kms now and counting.  
    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
    • Hey mate,  I have a set, one is slightly damaged but wont be noticable once installed.  Shoot me a message if your still after them 
    • I couldn't wait But, the black constant tension hose clamps were too thick and there wasn't enough clearance at the T/B and I couldn't get it to seat properly, so I had use a silver one there I also added some 3" silicone over the alloy bit that goes through to hole on the radiator support as it looked like it was sitting on the edge of the hole in the radiator support, I never noticed a rattle or anything, but there was a witness mark It is basicly done, and I can live with the silver hose clamp at the T/B, I will get a black clamp for the head vent though where it is attached to the bulkhead fitting  It never stops...LOL, only issue now with the shock tower brace is it slightly touches the under bonnet liner now, if I leave it it will either wear some paint off the brace where it touches, or damage the liner, so I removed the liner to see what I have to work with, with the liner removed I have about 20mm of clearance, but sadly the middle part of the underside of the bonnet is only dusted with paint and looks crap, so I cannot have that, but.... as I have a roll of Carbuilders premium under bonnet insulation in the garage laying around that is only 5.5mm thick (we were going to use it on the boys Patrol, but he crashed the front of it a few months and it was written off, hence why he now drives my old Honda Accord Euro), I'll use the OEM liner as a template and get the Carbuilders stuff fitted up to cover that dusted paint up
