Rally destroys cars, so be prepared for that.

Basically cos your flogging the sht out of it in the dirt, which wears everything out even faster. You measure wear and tear with hours not k's.

I could never handle going that fast in the forest with the trees whipping past....... :O scary.

On a bike i feel fine though, its different.

Get a good cage.

Yeah pretty much anything will do...

So long as parts are plentiful and cheap

Ie you will need to have spare suspension arms, wheels, radiators etc

Also, need to be friendly with a local panel guy

But would be a brilliant way to learn how to maintain a car.

I had a Cordia a Mate and I were going to rally...unfortunately it had too much rust and both of us lacked the time to do anything with it.

When a stock or mildly worked R1 can wheelie anytime up to.... i dunno 260? or something, whats the point having more power?

Its not a drag bike now, but i bet it will be modified soon, the owner will realize its the only way to feel the extra power.

I remember when Mick Doohan was riding 2 strokes in GP, they had a bike that was too light and they made worse lap times.

The idea was to buy charade or something equivalent and put a half cage in, strip the interior and just bolt a nice bucket seat in. Then enter as many events as possible.

Can't believe that event was $40! Sounds like so much fun!

Thanks for all the info guys, sounds like there is plenty of access to it in Canberra which is good.

Forget a half cage if you're thinking about rallying, full cage is the only way you want to go.

Get good harnesses, seat, helmet and a HANS device.

What ever car you buy, buy two of them.

Don't get anything with bigger than, or smaller than, a 15" wheel.

Find something with VERY long shock movement.

And lastly remember... Lots of fun! :D

And Zeb the other reason that cordia didn't get off the ground is the engine fell out of it... :P

    • I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.

    • Yes, but, I paid cash and I'm pretty sure the receipt was in the bin 10 minutes after I got home Note to self, keep all receipts

    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
