I just read the whole post - and let me add my 2cents

In regards to Speedworx - well AJ is a champion at tuning - especially MOTEC, in my opinion he is the guru at Motec in Perth, there wouldnt be anyone better. As far as a work shop their a joke. So poorly organised and run. Plus I dont like the fact that they have 200 cars piled into the shop, and they park cars under cars on the hoilst at night (my mate was a vicim of that).

I have known Ken for about 4/5 years now (back when I had my skyline) - and although not having used him yet, he has always been helpful and genuinely caring. Helped me with clutch at autoclutch etc. When I eventually get my R i will use Hyperdrive, and depending on service and quality of work will dictate if I recommend them and return. I dont think I will be disappointed.

Just my 2 cents.

yep thanks Ken for getting it done quickly, and despite all the issues with it, not giving up on it like another (admittedly Webers) tuner. (in said tuner's defence tho, the cut-and-shut sump was leaking a fair bit at the time).

it goes pretty hard too (well for a 34 year old datto), but it pinged under load a coupla times, so i'll go easy on it till i put a 'cooler in. that, and the old R160 is protesting loudly at the on/off throttle needed to run the engine in.

oh yeah, and changed the relay out but engine won't turn off... until you pull the handbrake on. :uhh:

all in all, i recommend Hyperdrive :(

i didn't know wheelspin did engine work too? thought they just sold bits. they are nicely situated for me

I don't often arc up but that is such a broad sweeping statement it requires an answer.

If you are saying that SST is the only shop that provides service, then why have they closed??

And PSI, Hyperdrive, X Speed, Speedworks, Barry dyno, Cypher Industries, Ovaboost, CMP, Wheelspin,Supertec, EvoR and a few I can't remember/don't know are all useless and only chasing the money or beer.

So you have been to them all and made a value judgement as to there capability/drink worthiness??

I have never had a probelm with any tuner in Perth i think most are committed to providing ggod customer service.

i've heard from quite a few car fiend friends that have had motecs installed in various imports like S13 - S15's, 180s, WRX, lines etc and they've raved about them.

From the general talk i hear about Speedworks is that their tuning is very good on the models of ecus they sell.

but be loyal to your shop, don't run around and get so many people doing so many different things that no-one knows whats going on.

Hyperdrive sponsors our club and they've proven themselves to everyone on here so telling someone to go there the refer has every confidence in their recomendation.

yeh loyalty is just a given for me if the service is right, price doesn't really come into it.

at the end of the day i want my car at its best and not in pain etc

i like to get to know the people working on my car and i like them to get to know me and my car. i plan on doing a lot to my car (as i guess most here do) so both parties would benefit from the good work.

hence i was going through SST for everything, but now i shall have to move on. i noticed hyperdrive is open on saturdays so that gives me a chance to trek over there and check it all out :rofl:

Heres my 2 cents if any1 cares.

Firstly ive got my cars worked only at cypher, xspeed, genie and some unnamed tuner and found them in general to be bloody great. Cypher I found to be a bit expensive on most things but good workmanship and knowledge never the less. Xspeed are great, also a bit pricey but never had a problem with them (top notch). Genie for exhausts are fantastic, always willing to help and prices for labour can't be beat (if you just need something welded or flanged etc..)

The unnamed one, basically I first went to him because he was cheaper than the rest and I knew a few other guys that had been there. He couldnt even diagnose wrong sized spark plug gaps, I thought it was something terminal wrong with my turbo after he finished with it after a service + plugs. I took it to Xspeed and they told me what it was before even looking at the car. So in that respect.. you get what you pay for.

In conclusion.. you get what you pay for.. the only reason Im not getting my stuff done @ xspeed now is that ive only heard good things about hyperdrive (+ hyperdrive sell xforce exhausts) and was more than helpful with my stupid questions on the phone. It may be practically the other side of the world from where I live, but id prefer to do that than trust my car with some jerk mechanic around the corner

In the past, I've only ever used SST for my car. Albeit only insignificant things to some people, ie tuning AFC etc. I've always found floods of advice forthcoming, and always good for a laugh :rofl:

I've been to other workshops in the past too, but never ended up doing any business with them due to them being "Not interested in the small jobs" so to speak.

That said, I've never had dealings with Hyperdrive as everyone else highly regards, and if they supported the ECU of my choice I have no doubt they'd be seeing my car also. I've seen both Ken (Hyperdrive) and Steve(ex-SST) post nothing but good advice on this forum over the years and that instills confidence.

So a big thumbs up to you guys, and a big thumbs down to the unnamed "cant be stuffed with small jobs" workshop ;)

This will sound lame after all the wondrous advice previously given but we can tune your microtech.

Failing that , Mick at Ovaboost is very good and has some quick Nissans on the product. :rofl:

my car came with a "dyno'd by rotomotion" sticker on it, so one can only assume they did the ecu first time.... and it has a shit fuel map on it...

ive also heard very good things about hyperdrive, was actually told to see you directly... so i'd say i will take my car to you guys for a tune... problem is i work 7-5 mon-fri, and 8-12 saturdays... so getting my car there is an issue..

Rotomotion are very good so the car may have had owner fiddling syndrome(Very common)

They have been around for about 25-30 years so they cant be to bad.

All the shops listed in this thread sofar have their strong points.

SST only stopped for personal reasons and were strong for 16 years but live on at CMP so feel free to come in sometime.

nah, the previous owner still had the cable in plastic, nor did he own a computer :rofl:

RM told him they only put on a basic map... to which he found out after it ran really rich and has a flat spot at the start of each gear

    • I have wasted too much time on this, more than I am willing to admit. I hope someone can set the record straight for me.  I want to replace my Nismo (non GT pro, non GT) standard 2 way in my R33 GTST with a 1.5 way... Ideally I want to get an ATS 1.5 way Carbon LSD, but I don't want to reuse my 29 spline 5x1 axle stubs, and new 30 spline 5x1's are impossible to get a hold of ($$$), and I don't want to drop the cash on going to 6x1 stubs and axles ATM. Which leads me to the Nismo GT Pro 38420-RSS15-B5 or RSS20, as they come with new axle stubs meant for the diff, and is "Convertible" from a 2 way or 1.5 way to "Other ways", but that is where I am stuck as the documentation is a bit all over the place.  To sum up what I have found I believe the all the Nismo GT Pro PN's are convertible from 2 way, 1.5 way, and 1 way; but Nismo sells 2 skus (2 & 1.5) so people do not have to disassemble to convert it.  I found this thread on 350z but it left the question unanswered. https://my350z.com/forum/engine-and-drivetrain/620032-nismo-gt-pro-lsd-1-5-vs-2-way-and-torque.html  Essentially the way I think it all works out is like follows...  2 way  1 way  and 1.5 way would be the center pinion shaft in the 1 way block, but with the with the center flipped 180*. So the ramped side of the pinion would face the 1 way gate and act like a ramp.    I can only get my hands on the 2 way in the states, and I am not trying to get stuffed on tariffs by ordering from Japan or anywhere else. I want to confirm that if I get the 2 way I can convert it to the 1.5.     
    • Hi everyone, I have purchased my first GTR and I want to do a single turbo conversion to it. I've been doing as much research as i can and there are a few things that I can find and need to know. I need to run a coolant feed, coolant return, oil feed and oil return for my turbo setup. Here's what I know so far: On the hot side of the rb26 there is coolant feed, oil feed and oil return. Coolant return will be going around the front of the engine to where the thermostat is located. I will need to block off the rear oil return port. I will be running a turbosmart boost solenoid so any of the factory boost stuff wont be needed. Now onto what I don't know: 1. What do I do with the coolant / vacuum hardlines that run around the back of the motor?. 2. What do I block off or loop or move or remove?. I will be running the OEM intake manifold. 3. Is there anything in particular I need to buy for the cold side of the rb26?. I already have the intercooler and pipes sorted. If you have any pictures or information it would be appreciated. Thanks....  
    • The fab work can be as simple as a couple of silicon hoses and clamps to the factory piping. 
    • Just sounds like either way you need to do some fab work to get everything to fit, so why limit yourself at that point? If the GCG high flow option is zero effort in and out swap though I'd probably do that. It's almost certainly lowest risk, lowest cost, etc. The HKS GTIII-RS option that Kapr mentioned is laughably expensive for what it is, they charge the exact same for two turbos on the RB26 so their margins are off the charts on that thing.
    • Intake manifold is not a part of the issue. The turbo bolts to the exhaust manifold. That is easy. But close your eyes and picture the physical situation. That is a T3 flange on the manifold and a T3 flange on the turbo. As long as any new turbo has a T3 flange on the exhaust housing, that exhaust housing will bolt to the exhaust manifold. This places the exhaust housing in the same place as the stock one. But now move your mental attention a little further forward. The location of the compressor housing is set by the length of the turbo's core. The stock turbo had a long core. Let's say that it is..... 100mm long. So that would place the compressor housing 100mm forward of the exhaust housing. But a highflow, might well have a centre core that is shorter. Let's say that it is only 70mm long. Now the compressor housing will be 30mm further back in the engine bay than the stock one. This DOES move the turbo's compressor outlet backwards. It also moves the compressor's inlet backwards. You will very likely have to do some work to both the inlet and outlet piping to make everything connect again. I am not say this to make it out to be a bigger deal than it is. I am just pointing out that "bolt on" is sometimes not quite bolt on. The highflow from GCG that Murray linked above (https://gcg.com.au/turbo-charger-upgrade-skyline-gtst-2iu-xtrgts-s1.html ) uses a core that is the same length as the stock core, and so does not require this extra work. It will look very much like the stock turbo. No-one uses GTR turbos of any flavour (stock, or aftermarket) in a single turbo application on RB20/25. It's not a thing. Yes, people have been putting on GT3076, GTX3076 (and bigger and smaller versions of those) and G30s (of various sizes) onto RB20/25 since forever. But these are not "bolt on". Everything except the 4 bolts to the exhaust manifold change with these. And genuine Garretts are expensive. Non-gen, like Pulsar, etc, are cheaper, variously as good or nearly as good. But still not bolt on. No-one in the right mind would pay for an HKS turbo. Not in this modern day and age. Well, yes, the GCG highflow. You could ask HG what he can do to make the compressor housing sit in the original location. There are surely others doing highflows around the world. And some of the eBay/Temu ones (as reported by Dose) work and don't die. Bit of a lottery though. I would send your turbo to GCG (here in Oz) to be highflowed if you want a trivial no-extra-work option. But seriously, the work required to change inlet and outlet piping is not that hard. That's a boost control problem, not a turbo problem.
