ive got fed 595 ss in a 185 50 14. they just are not grippy enough. great round the corners, but shit. the car is light. its only 170kw, i cannot get traction.

I have the FED 595's on my Skyline

255/35/18 - Rear

225/35/18 - Front

They are pretty good wet and dry......but then I came from Falken's, so anything is better these days. I miss the 90's when Falken wasn't pretty much a retread company! They kept my RX2 on the road at 200+ KPH back in 96!

maybe im not getting enough heat into them to activate the rubber...... oh well. see how we go.

Just did a track day at lake side in my 34 Gtt

Had federal 595 supersteel tyres fitted all round

225/40/17

The track was wet alot of the day and the federals were absolutely ridiculously insanely rubbish!

I got about 3 laps in when there was a dry racing line and they were still horrible.

Wet traction 1/10

Dry traction 4/10

V/f/m : 5/10

They're not a track day tyre. They are not that good in the rain, then I had them, I had to warm them up in the wet on the roads (very annoying). There are better tyres out there for the price (e.g. KU31).

I know they were just fitted to the car when i picked it up. Only had it for 3 days didnt get a chance to get another set of rims and put some semi's on them.

100 bucks a tyre for my little micra. they are decent. however im hoping for more from them when it warms up abit....

i would have gone for ku31s tho, but i cant get them in 184 55 14 in melbourne!

Nitto NT-01

Treadwear 100

255/40/17 at $240 per side fitted (Week 48, 2013)

Dry: 9/10
Wet : N/A - have not tested
Value for $: 7/10

Installed these on the rear of my shit box, normally when I stomp on the accelerator in 2nd tyres will spin and car would just smash the rev limiter I run soft rear springs with a 2-way KAAZ diff, but with the Nitto NT-01 the car would just bite and rocket forward without the slightest hint of wheel spin.

With the Nitto INVO and Federal RS-R, the car would move nowhere just spin tyres and smash the limiter.

With the Nitto NT-01, it's transformed the traction issue into nothing.

Fixed ;) It is what happened when i finally got grip anyway lol

hahahhaha I must say, when I shift really hard into gear all I get is this massive THUD... I feel sorry for the entire drive train LOL

Oh that is asking for failure! Post pics after the big bang :P

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm buying a set of tyres for daily use + I will use them for fun driving until I buy a set of semi slicks

Tossing up between Toyo Proxes T1 Sport or Michelin Pilot Sport 3 in 235/45r17

Toyo = $620/set fitted

Michelin = $628/set fitted

Call it same price. What to choose?!

Recently got a set of Yokohama AD08R 235/40 on my R33. The car will be used mainly on track but occasionally on the orad also which is why I opted for them before getting R Compe tires. So far, on the road, they are quite grippy and not very noisy. Will update once I take it to the track

    • Forgot to include this but this is the mid section of my steering rack that looks like it has a thread/can be turned with that notch mentioned in the post:
    • Hey everyone, Wanted to pick some brains about this issue I'm having with rebuilding my 33 rack (PN is 49001-19U05). All of the tutorials/videos I've seen online are either R34 or S Chassis racks which seem to be pretty straightforward to disassemble but this process doesnt carry over to my rack. Few of the key differences that I've noted The pinion shaft on the other racks bolt on with 3 torx bolts: Whereas my rack bolts on with 2 allen head bolts: These changes are pretty inconsequential but the main difference is how you pull the actual rack out of the housing. The other skyline/s chassis racks can be taken out by tapping the rack out of the body with a socket and it just slides right out. I'm unable to do that with my rack because there's a hard stop at the end that doesn't let the seal/shaft be tapped out. Can also see a difference in the other end of the rack where mine has a notch that looks like you're able to use a big wrench to unthread 2 halves of the rack whereas the other racks are just kinda set in with a punch. My rack: Other racks: TLDR; Wanted to know if anyone has rebuilt this specific model of steering rack for the R33 and if there were any steps to getting it done easier or if I should just give this to a professional to get done. Sorry if this post is a bit messy, first one I've done.
    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
    • Can I suggest you try EBC directly again and link them to as many competitor catalogues as you can to show their listing is incorrect, eg https://dba.com.au/product/front-4000-series-hd-brake-rotor-dba42304/ If you have access to an R33 GTST VIN and your VIN, you could also use a Nissan Parts lookup like Amayama to show them the part number is different between 33 GTST and 34 GTT which may get their attention
    • So i got reply from EBC and they just this site where you can clearly see those 296mm fronts on R34 GTT. I send them photos and "quotes" that 296mm are not for 34 GTT and they are too small. But it will be very hard to return them cuz nobody here knows 100% and they just copy those EBC catalogue :-D https://ebcbrakesdirect.com/automotive/nissan/skyline-r34
