Been getting to know my R32 GTS-4. I don't know if this is normal or not, but when I give it a boot full around a corner, the front suspension shudders (kinda) like a bastard -

I 'think' this may be the ATESSA kicking in - but not sure - I have never driven or been in a GTS-4 or GTR when gunning it round a corner - so I thought I would ask the question.

I guess I icould try pulling the fuse and seeing what happens then.

I gotta say though - I reckon the handling of the R32 is better than my old R33 - I really like the R32 - they seem to be more nimble, more responsive, and generally have more feel to them.

How hard are you going thru the corner???? Are you winding more steering lock on then you would have thought necessary. I have been in a few GTRs that when you have gone in too hot and got a bit of understeer, when you give it a boot and the AWD kicks in you get a shudder in the front end , its quite violent understeer.

Has only ever happened on the track though ojn slow 2nd gear corners...so how hard are you punting the poor thing. :)

Come on say it...the RB20 is a POWAH HOUSE :(

Yeah - say I punt it though a big roundabout in 2nd - I have it a boot load to try and get the front to pull me through - I think the atessa kisks in , it understeers and the front shudders - Seems to pull through OK but.

I love the RB20 - sweet revving donk !

No wheel allignment yet.

Might be worn shocks - but the ride under normal conditions is excellent. Maybe I am just giving it too much stick. It defenitely pull you out of the corner and the front/rear load guage kicks in.

The car has ABS maybe it is something to do with that as the front wheels do break traction a little during the corner punt.

6500 rmp launches are fun - I reckon my 60 ft times at the drags will be heaps better thatn the old car. ha ha ha

It's a fun car - nothing like a Skyline - IT's good to be back in one..

I like that......"nothing like a Skyline"

We all know 32 GTS's are just a bastard Silvia :P

To be honest I don't notice any shudder fom the front in the GTR, and I pull all sorts of stupid stuff when not in the public eye. Power off oversteer through a roundabout near home with plenty of boot on the way out. There is a little shudder on the front lighting them up in the wet in second though.

yeah, that doesn't sound normal to me. even on track in my GTR there is no 'shudder' when the attessa starts driverting torque to the front. could be an ABS problem though?

I havent' noticed any shuddering from the font end of my GTR on the road or track, but at the skid pan in the wet it did when I understeered.

get an alignment and maybe time for new shocks, has all the suspension been checked out? like bushes and stuff

cheers

mark :D

any pics of your car too? love R32's

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
