if that 13.5 time is right for his car then you should be ok. go stick it on the dyno and get it tuned, on around 15psi you should be making around 250rwkw.. if so you should be running mid 12's give or take.

Interesting. Wish this was on the drag strip soo all could watch, and no complaints on the result with many witnesses. You could always take my dad's 502 big block AC Cobra on.....but even i agree when im beat.

I reckon you have a good chance, just dont be to nervous and relax :)

What boost are you running?

I assume that you're exhaust is turbo-back and you have a high-flow cat.

Regardless, with those minimal mods, I think the C55 will still beat you.

Get a PowerFC, tune it for 1.4 bar for the race and you *SHOULD* beat him. Remember that he's got an auto and all he has to do is floor it. You have to get all your gear changes spot on.

It'll be a tough race. Those AMG Mercs are beasts. I predict that if you race him, you'll be up for an expensive dinner bill.

C55 doesn't get the trick 7 speed gearbox (like SLK55 AMG) or the supercharger (like E55 AMG), making it the slowest new AMG you can buy. So if you know how to drive, and if your car has any mods at all, you will win. Just remember that AMG's with their massive torque, auto box, and sophisticated traction control are simple to launch, so don't f@ck up!

I know of a couple of modified E55s going around that'd give most GTR owners a scare!!

MODIFIED E55's scaring GTR owners? The stockers run mid 12's, so I think even a stock E55 would scare a GTR owner! The modified E55's are just plain scary, as shown HERE

out of three launches tested - i got 1.54, 1.56, and 1.51.. so ur 1.6 launch is rubbish, and NO1 drives my car :)

wow the quickest drag prepped radial tyred GTR's in Australia are only doing 1.48-1.51 60fts you must have an amazing car

Man, whats there to be nervous about.. your cars a GTR. They run 11's with stock turbo's,ECU.

Just launch it at full throttle on revlimiter to be sure you wont f*kup the launch..

seriously, guys... its a GT-R! Theh GT-R nevah Looosess!

"Just want to know wot are my chances? I have an R33 GTR with slight mods -

- Blitz full exhaust system

- Blitz boost controller

- Blitz Air intake a filter system

For now thats all ive put on.. havent had a dyno so i dont know the exact horsepower. could ne1 give me an idea of my horsepower, ill b running about 15 or 16 pound."

Wow coming from a guy who is "too lazy" to dyno his car I find it amazing that you actually took it to the track to test out your 60 foot times! What ET/MPH did you pull?

Or did u have one of those 60 foot testers Ive seen on ebay??

For the guy that said "who would tune a merc anyway"

My good mates dad used to have a tuning shop called EPD here in Melbourne. They tuned Mercs, Ferraris, Porsches etc. It shutdown though because it wasnt profitable enough. Like, it made money, but just not enough for the time it consumed against their main liine of business.

They had a black E55 as a family car, boosted, exhaust, intake work, bit of ECU work on 95RON, ran a 11.5 on street tyres. I cant remember how much power it had, but something around 600HP at the wheels i think.

Anyway, they also had a S55 and that was pretty quick too, but nothing on the E55. To the point, they were considering a C55 too but from what they told me it was slow as balls.

Ive never been in a GTR, but i have been in a 13.1 second S14, which I think would loose by a fair few lengths on the E55, be just behind the S55. Considering the C55 is the base model AMG, id honestly say that it wouldnt be too great a car.

For 350hp/1600kg C55 vs 300hp (real stock power, yours is maybe 340hp) 1500kg AWD GTR, id shoot for the GTR. Auto robs more power in the drivetrain too, also the AWD will help launches. Rolling will be close, let me know the results.

assuming you have a decent clutch I think you will beat your boss. if you give it enough revs you cant really stuff up a launch. about a year ago my old gtr was similarly modded to yours and ide had a couple of goes against a c55 amg and beat him 2 or 3 times from a standing start. your car should be running mid to high 12s easily.

Jerry, I would assume nobody would modify a 2005 C55, particularly not if its his boss.

Brabus and Carlsson would beg to differ.

And what do you know about his boss to say that?

    • Given you're running a 2.8 and my 2.5 is not really like for like, I suspect there could be a bit more timing you could give it. What is the kW yield per degree you're putting through it? Here's my E85 map to give you an idea, where it was I could still get another 3~4kW per degree thrown at it.
    • It turns out that Setrab make a fan specifically for the oil cooler which is great and I've installed it with minimal swearing. I removed my 2x 12in push fans from the front of my aircon condenser and wired them into this. My main thermo fans kick on when I use the aircon anyway and would effectively already be working as puller fans through the condensor which is infront of the rad. The push fans (understandably) didn't really do much in the config they were previously in so now they're out. Now we're on to the "Oil fan doesn't really do much either!". Yes I'll duct it next if it does nothing in heavy use which it shouldn't. But hey, the object exists and fits great and is cool. Let me have this. The car is still in the "do my fittings leak oil now? do my wheels actually rub?" phase. I did a spirited drive on them and didn't hear or feel anything. Then I got back home and noticed there were grind marks on the inside of the rims, though I couldn't see where they were touching I got out the grinder and attacked the suspects. Note: I do not know how to use a grinder. Then I realised I had dragged my new rims across my concrete driveway before I did this drive. I didn't think I had damage at that time when I briefly looked...... but remembered this occurred after I did all the angle grinding. The grinding on the wheels in some very specific spots. It's not around the whole rim for example, which lines up with dragging it across concrete more than hitting a suspension component for even 1 full rotation. So everything is currently painted and taped up and I need to test it some more to see if it really IS rubbing, but from inside the car it doesn't feel like it is. In other news I attempted to do a before and after comparison of the heads/cam upgrade thing. Dynos lie, everything is in different measurements. Here is the data from the sandown back straight. Car go faster than before. Vroom vroom.
    • Here's my base ignition. +3 correction to redline when shooting water/meth which is always on. Looking at my old ignition table, I should be able to add 1-2 degree's next time I'm on the dyno.  Let me know your thoughts.
    • Given what I know now - same haha, but this was 12 years ago with second hand 740cc Nismo injectors in my S15 daily, I was too busy hunting elsewhere for the issue to even look at the injectors, running through some cleaner was a happy coincidence haha
    • Not a terrible idea. But if I ever had concerns that my injectors were sufficiently dirty to be causing me a problem, they would be out of the engine and onto the actual injector cleaner/testing bench.
