  1. ah shit I think you're right. ah well one more week won't kill me. I've done a lot of circuit racing but I've never been down the 1/4 so I have no idea what to expect. Do you know roughly what trap speed an R33 could do with 240rwkw?
  2. I'm heading down on Wednesday with a fresh set of tyres. If anyones keen send us a PM
  3. Just chuck a U bend on there and instead of an intercooler run WMI. I wonder if anyone has ever done that
  4. cost aside. a pneumatic actuator with an electronic controller elsewhere (in the cabin) could work well if someone designed one
  5. Are the rb20 boxes really that weak? My understanding was that you never really know what's going to let go first. I had a turbo honda that chewed a box every 18 months. The first one I lost 5th and reverse, second one was just reverse. They were cheap enough to throw away though. Did your gearbox show any warning signs or did it just break suddenly
  6. a tune would get you a bit more power but probably no more than say 10kw. it would be more responsive and better on fuel but it's up to you. Your set up is on about the limit of the stock ECU. Actually I'm not sure about the RB20 ecu's so maybe ask someone else; but it's worth mentioning that an aftermarket ecu + tune will be minimum $1250
  7. factory shouldn't have any play, the whole turbo will heat up pretty evenly so bearing tolerances shouldn't change much 1-2mm sounds about right for a 20 year old stocker. just throw it on and fingers crossed it doesn't blow smoke
  8. the coilpacks are probably nissan. 14 psi is low boost for that turbo there is a lot more power in it on pump 98. I don't know where you got 21psi from but you could run an EBC and with a tuner could turn up boost provided your fuel system keeps up. Could you post a picture of the injectors? sounds like they are probably standard which will max out around 250rwkw-ish on that turbo, don't quote me on that (maybe someone else can butt in here). If you don't mind travelling to North Ryde, Toshi does a great job of tuning at a decent price and he is very safe. he's on the forum here or you can look him up on FB
  9. The potential here is huge but it sounds like you don't know very much about the set up. Is it externally gated? I'd be talking to a tuner. find out what injectors you have and pull out the fuel pump to see what you've got there too. ECU? What colour are your coilpacks? we can likely tell you which ones they are If you could go E85 you can make serious power on a 3076 + stock RB25det. but seriously take it to a tuna if you don't know much about it
  10. not to mention alcohol fuels much lower EGT's probably let you get more power through a restrictive manifold anyway
  11. This is helpful for anyone fitting a stock turbo its easier to do when the turbo isn't tightened up against the manifold. Should be doing this before pulling old nuts and bolts off anyway. If you break something its not likely you can fix it on your own. Good luck you should be fine with the swap. What is the condition of the RB25 turbo you are fitting? remember these are very old hardware now
  12. Woah @mrrx7 time for visit to the tuner, might even save you some coin in the long run
  13. dumb question but have you checked compression? it could quickly rule out something sinister
  14. You running factory non-det injectors and fuel pump? If you're buying injectors and a fuel pump I'd sugest going straight for E85. its perfect for the higher comp motor and you will make more power on that small turbo
  15. A lot of people don't seem to trust the Walbros for some reason. They're pretty good if you aren't pushing huge amounts of boost. Anyway I'm sure the DW pump will be fine or you could look at an aeromotive stealth 340L/h pump which seem to do a bit better than the walbro 255's at higher boost. good luck
  16. stock turbos are getting on towards 20 years old now so the word reliable should really be avoided here; especially if you want to push more power at the wheels then it produced at the flywheel when new 20 years ago. If you want to make 240kw at the wheels relatively cheaply and reliably you can do so with: -hypergear hyflow turbo (rebuilt stocker that makes more power) ~ $900 -nistune ECU $1250 for whole ECU + tune from Toshi -Z32 AFM ~$300 new but you can get 2nd hand ones. -Walbro 255 fuel pump ~$100 about 15psi on the stock injectors will make a fast responsive reliable R33
  17. That would make an awesome street machine. RB25?
  18. +1 for Toshi. https://www.facebook.com/toshi.tune.3
  19. This is about as responsive as you would want to go id reckon. The stocker was responsive too but it was 20 years old. The high flow is better in everyway. If you want to compare, the 21u gets 1 bar by roughly 2900rpm in 5th
  20. I've never heard of that happening but it would make sense if the engine is pumping oil into the turbo and it's not draining back. getting the the oil return is fairly easy and although I feel like you won't find anything wrong with it; it may be worth just ruling it out.
  21. Just curious, What did you change in the 21U profile back in Junly? I just checked my record, I PAID for mine at the post office on the 5th of July. Do you know if I would have the new one? just curious because I'm getting organised to switch to e85
