  1. if they are the RE540s they are really, really old. they were superseded by RE55s a looong time ago. that could be part of the problem, they are probably pretty hard so they will still give good 'feel' but not near as much outright grip as they should (hence you won't be getting near as much body roll as you normally would). try again with your next new set, and on the first track day borrow someones heat gun or pyrometer for a session or two and as mentioned above split the tyre into 3 segments (inner, middle, outer) and measure the temps. you will soon see how it's working the tyres. the other question is have you done many road kms on them? cause that will definitely wear out the insides even with 'just' 2.5 degrees neg.
  2. looks great mate. it will be a very nice package when finished. I'm sure you will love it.
  3. no it's heat which creates pressure in the system. the hotter the coolant/water gets the more it expands. water kept under pressure raises it's boiling point. once the heat gets so much that the pressure exceeds the spring pressure of the cap then the cap releases pressure (water) which then boils in the overflow tank immediately as it's already over 100C and no longer under pressure any more. all the pump does is push water around, it's the heat that creates the pressure and it's for that reason (to enable the coolant to reach higher temps before boiling).
  4. yeah it's a pretty complex issue I guess. but I'll sign anyway i think.
  5. ring DOTARS but my advice is do not even try. my feeling is it will be an absolute carnt to do. definitely don't peel it off as they are self destroying sticker and will be ruined once removed. this is why most places put them in door jambs now rather than engine bays so they don't get damaged by heat etc. if it were me I would glue down the corner and mask it up for painting.
  6. I have run no BOV, recirculating BOVS and tiwn atmo BOVS and have NEVER had reversion problems or overfuelling etc with AFMS. and that includes stock AFMS on GTR, nismo AFMS on GTR, Z32 AFMs on GTR and a Z32 AFM on the silvia. if tuned properly and set-up properly there is no problem with whichever set-up you want to use. and just like Rolls said the nistune can easily be retuned as many times as you like. I would seriously ring someone like envy who do a lot of them and ask them what features it does/does not have. it';s a very good option.
  7. you were on the right track until......... perfectionniste. it's perfectionist. hth. lol.
  8. there is plenty of topics on this. but basically unless you have done other work to the auto box to make it shift quicker and more postively etc then it's really not much use. you can just row it through the gears now if you want. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/se...lite=%2Bratchet
  9. lol, can't argue with that. no doubt things will be behaving differently with near 30 pound of boost in there. the vacuum alone in the pipe that is connected from rocker covers to the intake (pre turbo) will be HUGE.
  10. my advice. I know it's fun planning out all the builds etc, and there is not much else you can do I guess without a car. but I would just start with buying the car. enjoy for a while as it is. you don't need 500hp straight away and the budget to do it properly is going to be tripple the value of the car. the coil pack cover you want which says nissan GTR is from an R34 GTR, they are just a stick on plate. you can buy one for about AUD $120 or so. personally get the non vspec if you can as you can cheaply buy a kit from nismo for the diff which will give you a proper 2 way LSD for about $300AUD + fitting. seriously, things change fast. no point planing the build now without the car. buy the car when you can. enjoy it for a while and THEN see what you want out of it. window shopping your ultimate build is fun but in the end not really much help.
  11. lol. I think they need a lesson in turbo charger operation basics. compressor surge is a phenomenon that occurs where a compressor is producing more airflow at a point where the engine cannot ingest it. it also occurs in twin turbo engines and is sometimes refereed to as turbo shuffle etc. it is eliminated by carefully reviewing compressor maps and choosing the right turbo and some manufactures also add small bypass holes (anti surge covers/slots/etc) to combat it too as the turbo is spooling up. as for the turbo spinning in the other direction. rofl. that would be a neat trick to stop a compressor AND turbine wheel that are spinning at 100,000rpm and linked by a common shaft and make them turn the other way in a split second even though there is constant pressure on the exhaust side keeping it turning the same way..... I would like to see them demonstrate that. by their logic my turbo must be super fked by now. it's been running without any kind of bov since new and by now must be just as good at spinning backwards as it is at spinning forwards. imagine that. every time I lift off the throttle my turbo spins backwards and forces exhaust gas back into my engine and at the same time is sucking air and fuel out of the intake and blowing it out the pod filter. bummer dude.
  12. if it's tuned well the nistune is a good option. which is the same as the other 2 really. they are only as good as the tune that's in them. so considering it's price and the factory like features it retains I would put the nistune at number 1 preference of those 3 options. or have you considered power FC? they have been great for me in all the cars I've run them in. anyway, of the 3 you suggest I'd be talking to envy about what you want but I'm sure if tuned right the nistune will be good.
  13. certainly sounds like fuel pump. take it to a mechanic and have them test it. then you'll know for sure. it shouldn't cost more than half an hours labour to test a fuel pump. so for around $40 you will know if that's the problem or not. personally I've seen a lot of problems with people putting walbros in their skylines. most often they are not fitted properly and just floating in the tank, and sometimes even when fitted to the tank they are still not installed properly. improper install will see them fail fairly quickly.
  14. moving the AFM too close to the turbos compressor intake can and most likely will cause you problems. yes it's possible to mount it somewhere else in the intercooler piping but with a standard ecu you may have some problems. trust me, nissan mounted it as far away from the turbo intake as possible for a reason, it was just so you'd have an easy way to bolt on a pod filter...
  15. hi Louis, when you say 'standard approval' there isn't really such a thing. if it was 7 years ago it may well have been imported under the old LVIS (Low Volume Import Scheme). In that case you may be out of luck. if you imported it 7 years ago that was 2002. in 2002 we could only import cars built up to 1987 under the 15yo rule so in that case your car was definitely not a 15yo car. it may be too late to have it complied under it's current import approval. if you still have it can you post a scan of it up? feel free to black out your name, the chassis number, approval number etc but it will at least mean we can give you some advice. edit: just read your post properly, you say it was a 15yo import approval but if it was 7 years ago I don't see how you could get an 89 GTST? Anyway assuming you do have it imported under the 15yo rule you should be able to just go through the basic requirements for it to be able to be registered in your chosen state. They might ask some questions as to why you didn't get it done in the last 5 years or so.....
  16. do you really need to return it to anywhere? I am not personally keen on returning catch tank stuff into my sump. it's usually watery/fuelly/oily stuff and aside from that there is usually bugger all in there. I empty mine about once a year and bugger all is in there. you can T it into the turbo oil drain but it can be a bad idea as you most certainly don't want anything to fk that up as your turbo will quickly get fked if the oil drain gets blocked. other than that you can drill and tap and put a fitting into the top of the sump and return it there but personally I'd just block it up and leave it.
  17. it's going to be hard to fit. why are you so set on the ARC box? I used one for a while and they are ok, but not amazing. plus they are pretty heavy and that weight is going where you least want it, right up the front of the car and nice and high in the car. the set-up you have now is quite good. you could consider making a partition/box for your current 2 pods? they are good quality and give a lot of surface area so offer good filtering and little restriction.
  18. well I'm running a T518Z on my silvia with all metal intake and cooler piping and no BOV. no problems at all from the turbo but you'll need to be prepared to live with some chronic tutututututu everytime you lift of the throttle or change gear. I haven't seen any ill effect from not having a BOV on it but I think I might add one purely to get rid of the insane noises it makes....
  19. I would definitely look at that one linked. for $48K it's a lot of GTR. it's the colour you want, spec you want, kms you want and importing from Adelaide is easier than japan! was it listed a few months ago? the ad looks to me like it was only put up last week?
  20. yeah the sard surge tanks are good. they are basically like a mini fuel tank with inspection port on the top and you can mount your 'external' pumps inside it which does quieten them down a little and keeps them relatively cool too as they are sitting in fuel. it's a good way to go.
  21. Well if kimi doesn't get a drive I'm sure he won't be found crying into his bollinger in some quiet bar. it's a nice year long party ahead. bring on the strippers and coke. good time to be one of kimi's mates about now... lol.
  22. gold. well it did have some new stickers on it and some bloke driving it there for a while but i have been constantly breaking russ's balls about selling it for nearly a year now so he was bound to crack eventually.
  23. 'king oath it will. we can line the spare aero bits for the 34 with lead that's a start. and then before mark goes out we just need to let a few psi out of one tyre and see how he copes with that... now who's laughing!!! the 32 has moved up a notch for sure. hell it even has an aftermarket steering wheel now... watch out berry. it's coming for you. ps when I got the text on saturday night I was a bit pissed and thought the smiley face was a frowny face. stupid blurry vision. had been making mojito's to cool down and they were tasty and about the only useful thing you can do with a bottle of bacardi and a giant mint plant.
  24. well fair enough. the 'fun' of the experience is one reason to import I guess. and wanting a specific colour/spec/year can be another good reason too. so I guess you have it fairly well figured out. best of luck finding the car you want.
  25. you get what you pay for is all I'll say....
