Million Dollar Driver Challenge
Beer Baron replied to MissJuz's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
mmmm clowns....... -
love it big boy. it looks just like I pictured it all those months ago. hard to believe it wasn't that long ago we were standing in the back of my truck ripping boxes open! and now all those boxes = 1 car. it will be the star of the show wherever you take it mate. let's please take it to japan and show them what some hairy backed foreigners can build. (note, using the best japanese parts of course...)
-
when i have a sec i'll look for pics of any of the AGY cars. they are a great tuning shop. one of my favs too. the engine for my car I had built in japan was: R34 RB26 N1 Nur crate motor pulled apart at prime garage and blue printed etc full prime garage head porting (inlet, exhaust etc, the full deal) squish zones removed on one side new valve seats cut (3 angle) tomei 1.2mm metal head gasket cooling passage and oil returns opened up oil feed restrictor added trust sump extension and baffle added with trust extended pick-up tomei 260/9.15mm lift cams in and ex tomei cam gears nismo timing belt mines cam cover baffles fitted that's all I can think of off the top of my head! it was not cheap, but not too bad either. I've had stuff done there before and have a good relationship there so they definitely charge fairly. and back then the aud was buying 104 yen which helped.
-
if you can when in japan have someone (hotel concierge maybe) call top secret for you and explain that you are a foreigner but are interested in buying some parts, not just a tourist. they will happily sell you anything they have in stock anyway if you go there. but ordering stuff may be harder. shibuki-san (store manager) speaks a tiny bit of english and seems to improve a little every year, but it's pretty basic and he seems to speak less to people he doesn't know (shy I guess). anyway, as always I'd suggest the best idea is try and learn some japanese before you go. even a little. it will all help. and still more pics to come, but i've been away the last few weeks and as always more pics than I have the time to sort through soon.

Nissan Extroid Cvt - Strip Down And Repair!
Beer Baron replied to sbyder's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
cool. it will be interesting to see how you get on. no doubt a lot of your work will apply to the GT8 trans as well. since neither is really an 8 speed or 6 speed both are just a CVT with different 'shift' programming you can utilise giving a number of set ratio points. I honestly have no idea what wears in them but it should look like this inside as I understand nissan use the type of CVT with a belt drive with 2 variable size pullleys. which is probably the most common type. there are a few potential spots though I can think of off the top of my head. and here's a good little gif for those who have no idea how they work. -
Stupid Arse Simple Question
Beer Baron replied to Mr Eps's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
if I were you given the current AUD value and the current depressed local market I'd be looking at cars already here that were bought when the aud was buying 100 JPY and buyers are now finding they are hard to sell in the current local climate and are willing to sell at a big discount. -
Some Amazing Stats
Beer Baron replied to Iron Chef's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
lol, it's not hard to see when the 15yo rule hit 1989 and 1990.... thanks very much all the guys who brought in all those lovely rusty, accident damaged and just plain rubbish cars (not just sklines either, heaps of rubbish landcrrushers, and beemers, merc etc) in that period. on the plus side once they binned CPA and 15yo it means the average standard of cars imported these days is much higher. not all 89/90 cars were shit, in fact there were (are) heaps of beautiful ones that came in but they were about 1 in 10 at the time I reckon. importers ruined it for themselves and just went nuts. -
sold. not having a 34 GTR in the garage does make me feel like less of a man. i'm still a man right?...... right? anyway, bye bye my sweet, sweet 34. you were the most underated car in my current stable and by far had the most presence on the road. you always surprised me with how quick you were for a standard car. I'd hop into the 34 after fanging the RX7 (which is quite fast) or the silvia (also damn fast) and I was never disappointed by it's pace which is prety cool for a dead standard car! anyhoo.... bye bye now.
-
I'm glad you arrived home safely mate. The car definitely got the buyer it deserved which says a lot about yourself and the car. as for what it sold for guys it doesn't really matter. he was happy, i was happy (ish!) so that's all that counts. and you were a pleasure to deal with too mate and very patient with all the running around etc. great pics and little journal of the drive too. I'm pleased she treated you so well on the way home too. luck there is 100 J-pop albums in the "m catcher" as you must have needed nearly all of them on a drive that big. I can't wait to see pics with the new headlights.

Yokie Ao50 Vs Re11s Bridgestones
Beer Baron replied to Roy's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
not bloody surprising... by the time we get some they will be superseeded.... just like we still don't have a nissan R35 and they are already up to mk 2 and Spec V.... being in a small economy sure does suck.. -
you know what I really want to see? you know how to really make the Beer Baron sell some property and buy an R35? I'd love to see an R35 V-spec II N1 Nur GTR. this is my R35 V-Spec II N1 Nur edition spec and it's patent pending punks so hands off!! -666hp. -full dry sump -bigger factory engine oil cooler -trans cooler -diff cooler -no a/c just basic fan, demister etc -no tv/dvd/sub woofer just a very, very basic stereo -2 seater only -factory cage or at least half cage with roll over protection (a la GT3 CS) -smaller steering wheel and paddles that move with the wheel -carbon bloody everywhere to save more weight and add cool factor. = full dash, door trims, bonnet, boot, wing, bumper, grill, roof (big one as it lowers CoG), other little pieces -TE37s but proper ones not the stupid looking Spec V ones. I want ones that look more like the Super GT ones. even 19s if they have to go down a size -the spec V carbon brakes are ok, leave them -NON synchro box (no synchros means they can have wider, stronger gears), this is a big one, box improvment. trans cooler will go some way to giving it longer life though -Drivers and passenger seats something very racy again, like GT3 CS (with 4 point harnesses and regular lap/sash). a set of very nice recaro buckets would do it, maybe even trimmed in leather for some comfort factor (and more durable too). -thin, lightweight glass (aka speed glass) -semi slick tyres -Gold N1 Nur covers just like ye olde RB26 (please the fanboys) - great flowing and BIG sounding exhaust. even make it variable like F430/Gallardo exhausts are. quiet when tootling around, but above 80% throttle the thing opens wide up for max noise. titanium of course.. So who's with me? is this THE R35 you'd want to buy or what???

Superlap 2009 Gets A Green Light!
Beer Baron replied to Superlap Australia's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
forget john boston. get troy into the zed. he is a much better driver. trust me bro. and he'll pay for his own tyres. can't do better than that. really I reckon it's between me, fatz, and roy as to who captians the zed this year. maybe a battle royale to sort it out? -
for your engine and turbos 7800rpm is plenty. ask your engine this. do you want it to be here for a good time or a long time? you can't have both. if you don't mind the odd wallet breaking rebuild then rev it to 9,000 all day long (though your peak power will have been passed at about 7500 if that). if you really want it to last keep it to 7800. that still gives you plenty to play with, with some small-ish low mounts as from 4,200 and up the party should be going.

Workshop Reviews

link in your sig is fine. posts soliciting feedback I need to think about. not sure what kind of forum that would be suitable in. we generally don't allow people making posts to solicit participation in other forums/websites etc. -

well if he's back he might want to get onto his web man. his home page is still blank.... makes it hard to trap people.... i mean attract entrants without your homepage working. -
umm maybe but the question is why? the only difference between the D-JETRO PFC and the L-JETRO is that one is for MAF and one supports MAP. so if you want to run MAF then just get the regular common as muck (and cheaper) J-JETRO PFC.
-
yeah it will be hard to take seeing JV get spanked by the likes if ingall... skaife gone, seton gone. all my childhood favourites are dropping. still got lowndes though which is something. and I do still like to watch the big girls.

i have to say it's hardly a 'new racetrack for nsw'. I mean you couldn't hold anything like the events that we used to have at oran park. so if they reckon this replaces oran park then that's bullshit. oran park had GP circuit which was great for races etc. south circuit which was ok, north circuit for drifting and karts. off road dirt track for rally practice. 4WD track for the 4WD freaks. motorcross track. and skid pan for driver training and drift practice. and it's like 4kms long. and they had a place that sells deep fried hotdogs and smokes. you could hardly say a tiny 1km driveway wide 'circuit' is a new race track. and it comes no where near to replacing the awesome facility we are losing. BTW this is not directed at anyone in particular. just a general rant.

R33 Antenna Always Up With New Headunit
Beer Baron replied to Ryan12's topic in Car Audio & Electrical
thanks Al, switch will be the go for me too. it's farken annoying having it up all the time. since whenever i'm in the thing a CD is playing means the arial is up 90% of the time. and if I turn the car off without turning off the stereo first it stays up. plus since the car is so long it looks like i'm driving a go kart with a little flag pole on it so big trucks wont run over me...
